gur daree-aa-o sadaa jal nirmal mili-aa durmat mail harai.
The Guru is the River, from which the Pure Water is obtained forever; it washes away the filth and pollution of evil-mindedness.

siqguir pwieAY pUrw nwvxu psU pryqhu dyv krY ]2] (1329-1)
satgur paa-i-ai pooraa naavan pasoo paraytahu dayv karai. ||2||
Finding the True Guru, the perfect cleansing bath is obtained, which transforms even beasts and ghosts into gods. ||2||

rqw sic nwim ql hIAlu so guru prmlu khIAY ] (1329-2)
rataa sach naam tal hee-al so gur parmal kahee-ai.
He is said to be the Guru, with the scent of sandalwood, who is imbued with the True Name to the bottom of His Heart.

jw kI vwsu bnwspiq saurY qwsu crx ilv rhIAY ]3] (1329-2)
jaa kee vaas banaaspat sa-urai taas charan liv rahee-ai. ||3||
By His Fragrance, the world of vegetation is perfumed. Lovingly focus yourself on His Feet. ||3||

gurmuiK jIA pRwn aupjih gurmuiK isv Gir jweIAY ] (1329-3)
gurmukh jee-a paraan upjahi gurmukh siv ghar jaa-ee-ai.
The life of the soul wells up for the Gurmukh; the Gurmukh goes to the House of God.

gurmuiK nwnk sic smweIAY gurmuiK inj pdu pweIAY ]4]6] (1329-4)
gurmukh naanak sach samaa-ee-ai gurmukh nij pad paa-ee-ai. ||4||6||
The Gurmukh, O Nanak, merges in the True One; the Gurmukh attains the exalted state of the self. ||4||6||

gur parsaadee vidi-aa veechaarai parh parh paavai maan.
By Guru's Grace, contemplate spiritual knowledge; read it and study it, and you shall be honored.

Awpw mDy Awpu prgwisAw pwieAw AMimRqu nwmu ]1] (1329-5)
aapaa maDhay aap pargaasi-aa paa-i-aa amrit naam. ||1||
Within the self, the self is revealed, when one is blessed with the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||

kartaa too mayraa jajmaan.
O Creator Lord, You alone are my Benefactor.

ik dakhinaa ha-o tai peh maaga-o deh aapnaa naam. ||1|| rahaa-o.
I beg for only one blessing from You: please bless me with Your Name. ||1||Pause||

panch taskar Dhaavat raakhay chookaa man abhimaan.
The five wandering thieves are captured and held, and the egotistical pride of the mind is subdued.

idsit ibkwrI durmiq BwgI AYsw bRhm igAwnu ]2] (1329-7)
disat bikaaree durmat bhaagee aisaa barahm gi-aan. ||2||
Visions of corruption, vice and evil-mindedness run away. Such is the spiritual wisdom of God. ||2||

jqu squ cwvl dieAw kxk kir pRwpiq pwqI Dwnu ] (1329-8)
jat sat chaaval da-i-aa kanak kar paraapat paatee Dhaan.
Please bless me with the rice of truth and self-restraint, the wheat of compassion, and the leaf-plate of meditation.

dUDu krmu sMqoKu GIau kir AYsw mWgau dwnu ]3] (1329-8)
dooDh karam santokh ghee-o kar aisaa maaNga-o daan. ||3||
Bless me with the milk of good karma, and the clarified butter, the ghee, of compassion. Such are the gifts I beg of You, Lord. ||3||

iKmw DIrju kir gaU lvyrI shjy bCrw KIru pIAY ] (1329-9)
khimaa Dheeraj kar ga-oo lavayree sehjay bachhraa kheer pee-ai.
Let forgiveness and patience be my milk-cows, and let the calf of my mind intuitively drink in this milk.

sifat saram kaa kaprhaa maaNga-o har gun naanak ravat rahai. ||4||7||
I beg for the clothes of modesty and the Lord's Praise; Nanak chants the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||7||

Awvqu iknY n rwiKAw jwvqu ikau rwiKAw jwie ] (1329-10)
aavat kinai na raakhi-aa jaavat ki-o raakhi-aa jaa-ay.
No one can hold anyone back from coming; how could anyone hold anyone back from going?

ijs qy hoAw soeI pru jwxY jW aus hI mwih smwie ]1] (1329-11)
jis tay ho-aa so-ee par jaanai jaaN us hee maahi samaa-ay. ||1||
He alone thoroughly understands this, from whom all beings come; all are merged and immersed in Him. ||1||

qUhY hY vwhu qyrI rjwie ] (1329-11)
toohai hai vaahu tayree rajaa-ay.
Waaho! - You are Great, and Wondrous is Your Will.

jo ikCu krih soeI pru hoiebw Avru n krxw jwie ]1] rhwau ] (1329-12)
jo kichh karahi so-ee par ho-ibaa avar na karnaa jaa-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Whatever You do, surely comes to pass. Nothing else can happen. ||1||Pause||

jaisay harhat kee maalaa tind lagat hai ik sakhnee hor fayr bharee-at hai.
The buckets on the chain of the Persian wheel rotate; one empties out to fill another.

qYso hI iehu Kylu Ksm kw ijau aus kI vifAweI ]2] (1329-13)
taiso hee ih khayl khasam kaa ji-o us kee vadi-aa-ee. ||2||
This is just like the Play of our Lord and Master; such is His Glorious Greatness. ||2||

surqI kY mwrig cil kY aultI ndir pRgwsI ] (1329-14)
surtee kai maarag chal kai ultee nadar pargaasee.
Following the path of intuitive awareness, one turns away from the world, and one's vision is enlightened.

min vIcwir dyKu bRhm igAwnI kaunu igrhI kaunu audwsI ]3] (1329-14)
man veechaar daykh barahm gi-aanee ka-un girhee ka-un udaasee. ||3||
Contemplate this in your mind, and see, O spiritual teacher. Who is the householder, and who is the renunciate? ||3||

ijs kI Awsw iqs hI sauip kY eyhu rihAw inrbwxu ] (1329-15)
jis kee aasaa tis hee sa-up kai ayhu rahi-aa nirbaan.
Hope comes from the Lord; surrendering to Him, we remain in the state of nirvaanaa.

ijs qy hoAw soeI kir mwinAw nwnk igrhI audwsI so prvwxu ]4]8] (1329-15)
jis tay ho-aa so-ee kar maani-aa naanak girhee udaasee so parvaan. ||4||8||
We come from Him; surrendering to Him, O Nanak, one is approved as a householder, and a renunciate. ||4||8||

parbhaatee mehlaa 1.
Prabhaatee, First Mehl:

idsit ibkwrI bMDin bWDY hau iqs kY bil jweI ] (1329-16)
disat bikaaree banDhan baaNDhai ha-o tis kai bal jaa-ee.
I am a sacrifice to that one who binds in bondage his evil and corrupted gaze.

pwp puMn kI swr n jwxY BUlw iPrY AjweI ]1] (1329-17)
paap punn kee saar na jaanai bhoolaa firai ajaa-ee. ||1||
One who does not know the difference between vice and virtue wanders around uselessly. ||1||

bolhu scu nwmu krqwr ] (1329-17)
bolhu sach naam kartaar.
Speak the True Name of the Creator Lord.

Puin bhuiV n Awvx vwr ]1] rhwau ] (1329-18)
fun bahurh na aavan vaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Then, you shall never again have to come into this world. ||1||Pause||

aUcw qy Puin nIcu krqu hY nIc krY sulqwnu ] (1329-18)
oochaa tay fun neech karat hai neech karai sultaan.
The Creator transforms the high into the low, and makes the lowly into kings.

ijnI jwxu sujwixAw jig qy pUry prvwxu ]2] (1329-19)
jinee jaan sujaani-aa jag tay pooray parvaan. ||2||
Those who know the All-knowing Lord are approved and certified as perfect in this world. ||2||

qw kau smJwvx jweIAY jy ko BUlw hoeI ] (1329-19)
taa ka-o samjhaavan jaa-ee-ai jay ko bhoolaa ho-ee.
If anyone is mistaken and fooled, you should go to instruct him.
