O you with swollen breasts, let your consciousness become deep and profound.

sasurh suhee-aa kiv karee nivan na jaa-ay thanee.
O mother-in-law, how can I bow? Because of my stiff nipples, I cannot bow.

gach je lagaa girvarhee sakhee-ay Dha-ulharee.
O sister, those mansions built as high as mountains

say bhee dhahday dith mai munDh na garab thanee. ||1||
- I have seen them come crumbling down. O bride, do not be so proud of your nipples. ||1||

sun munDhay harnaakhee-ay goorhaa vain apaar.
O bride with deer-like eyes, listen to the words of deep and infinite wisdom.

pahilaa vasat sinjaan kai taaN keechai vaapaar.
First, examine the merchandise, and then, make the deal.

dohee dichai durjanaa mitraaN kooN jaikaar.
Proclaim that you will not associate with evil people; celebrate victory with your friends.

ijqu dohI sjx imlin lhu muMDy vIcwru ] (1410-7)
jit dohee sajan milan lahu munDhay veechaar.
This proclamation, to meet with your friends, O bride - give it some thought.

qnu mnu dIjY sjxw AYsw hsxu swru ] (1410-7)
tan man deejai sajnaa aisaa hasan saar.
Surrender mind and body to the Lord your Friend; this is the most excellent pleasure.

iqs sau nyhu n kIceI ij idsY clxhwru ] (1410-7)
tis sa-o nayhu na keech-ee je disai chalanhaar.
Do not fall in love with one who is destined to leave.

O Nanak, I am a sacrifice to those who understand this. ||2||

jay tooN taaroo paan taahoo puchh tirhHaN-nH kal.
If you wish to swim across the water, then consult those who know how to swim.

Those who have survived these treacherous waves are very wise. ||3||

jharh jhakharh ohaarh lahree vahan lakhaysaree.
The storm rages and the rain floods the land; thousands of waves rise and surge.

siqgur isau Awlwie byVy fubix nwih Bau ]4] (1410-10)
satgur si-o aalaa-ay bayrhay duban naahi bha-o. ||4||
If you cry out for help from the True Guru, you have nothing to fear - your boat will not sink. ||4||

naanak dunee-aa kaisee ho-ee.
O Nanak, what has happened to the world?

swlku imqu n rihE koeI ] (1410-11)
saalak mit na rahi-o ko-ee.
There is no guide or friend.

BweI bMDI hyqu cukwieAw ] (1410-11)
bhaa-ee banDhee hayt chukaa-i-aa.
There is no love, even among brothers and relatives.

dunIAw kwrix dInu gvwieAw ]5] (1410-11)
dunee-aa kaaran deen gavaa-i-aa. ||5||
For the sake of the world, people have lost their faith. ||5||

hY hY kir kY Eih kryin ] (1410-12)
hai hai kar kai ohi karayn.
They cry and weep and wail.

gl@w iptin isru Kohyin ] (1410-12)
galHaa pitan sir khohayn.
They slap their faces and pull their hair out.

nwau lYin Aru krin smwie ] (1410-12)
naa-o lain ar karan samaa-ay.
But if they chant the Naam, the Name of the Lord, they shall be absorbed into it.

naanak tin balihaarai jaa-ay. ||6||
O Nanak, I am a sacrifice to them. ||6||

ry mn fIig n folIAY sIDY mwrig Dwau ] (1410-13)
ray man deeg na dolee-ai seeDhai maarag Dhaa-o.
O my mind, do not waver or walk on the crooked path; take the straight and true path.

pwCY bwGu frwvxo AwgY Agin qlwau ] (1410-13)
paachhai baagh daraavno aagai agan talaa-o.
The terrible tiger is behind you, and the pool of fire is ahead.

shsY jIArw pir rihE mw kau Avru n FMgu ] (1410-14)
sahsai jee-araa par rahi-o maa ka-o avar na dhang.
My soul is skeptical and doubtful, but I cannot see any other way to go.

nwnk gurmuiK CutIAY hir pRIqm isau sMgu ]7] (1410-14)
naanak gurmukh chhutee-ai har pareetam si-o sang. ||7||
O Nanak, as Gurmukh, dwell with your Beloved Lord, and you shall be saved. ||7||

bwGu mrY mnu mwrIAY ijsu siqgur dIiKAw hoie ] (1410-15)
baagh marai man maaree-ai jis satgur deekhi-aa ho-ay.
The tiger is killed, and the mind is killed, through the Teachings of the True Guru.

Awpu pCwxY hir imlY bhuiV n mrxw hoie ] (1410-15)
aap pachhaanai har milai bahurh na marnaa ho-ay.
One who understands himself, meets with the Lord, and never dies again.
