Malaar, Third Mehl:

ਜੀਵਤ ਮੁਕਤ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
जीवत मुकत गुरमती लागे ॥
Jeevaṫ mukaṫ gurmaṫee laagé.
Those who are attached to the Guru’s Teachings, are Jivan-mukta, liberated while still alive.

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦ ਜਾਗੇ ॥
हरि की भगति अनदिनु सद जागे ॥
Har kee bʰagaṫ an▫ḋin saḋ jaagé.
They remain forever awake and aware night and day, in devotional worship of the Lord.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ॥
सतिगुरु सेवहि आपु गवाइ ॥
Saṫgur sévėh aap gavaa▫é.
They serve the True Guru, and eradicate their self-conceit.
|
ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਸਦ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥
हउ तिन जन के सद लागउ पाइ ॥१॥
Ha▫o ṫin jan ké saḋ laaga▫o paa▫é. ||1||
I fall at the feet of such humble beings. ||1||
|
ਹਉ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈ ॥
हउ जीवां सदा हरि के गुण गाई ॥
Ha▫o jeevaaⁿ saḋaa har ké guṇ gaa▫ee.
Constantly singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, I live.

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गुर का सबदु महा रसु मीठा हरि कै नामि मुकति गति पाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Gur kaa sabaḋ mahaa ras meetʰaa har kæ naam mukaṫ gaṫ paa▫ee. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
The Word of the Guru’s Shabad is such totally sweet elixir. Through the Name of the Lord, I have attained the state of liberation. ||1||Pause||

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਅਗਿਆਨੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ॥
माइआ मोहु अगिआनु गुबारु ॥
Maa▫i▫aa moh agi▫aan gubaar.
Attachment to Maya leads to the darkness of ignorance.

ਮਨਮੁਖ ਮੋਹੇ ਮੁਗਧ ਗਵਾਰ ॥
मनमुख मोहे मुगध गवार ॥
Manmukʰ mohé mugaḋʰ gavaar.
The self-willed Manmukhs are attached, foolish and ignorant.
|
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਧੰਧਾ ਕਰਤ ਵਿਹਾਇ ॥
अनदिनु धंधा करत विहाइ ॥
An▫ḋin ḋʰanḋʰaa karaṫ vihaa▫é.
Night and day, their lives pass away in worldly entanglements.

ਮਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
मरि मरि जंमहि मिलै सजाइ ॥२॥
Mar mar jamėh milæ sajaa▫é. ||2||
They die and die again and again, only to be reborn and receive their punishment. ||2||
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥
गुरमुखि राम नामि लिव लाई ॥
Gurmukʰ raam naam liv laa▫ee.
The Gurmukh is lovingly attuned to the Name of the Lord.

ਕੂੜੈ ਲਾਲਚਿ ਨਾ ਲਪਟਾਈ ॥
कूड़ै लालचि ना लपटाई ॥
Koor▫hæ laalach naa laptaa▫ee.
He does not cling to false greed.
|
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥
जो किछु होवै सहजि सुभाइ ॥
Jo kichʰ hovæ sahj subʰaa▫é.
Whatever he does, he does with intuitive poise.
|
ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਰਸਨ ਰਸਾਇ ॥੩॥
हरि रसु पीवै रसन रसाइ ॥३॥
Har ras peevæ rasan rasaa▫é. ||3||
He drinks in the sublime essence of the Lord; his tongue delights in its flavor. ||3||
|
ਕੋਟਿ ਮਧੇ ਕਿਸਹਿ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
कोटि मधे किसहि बुझाई ॥
Kot maḋʰé kisėh bujʰaa▫ee.
Among millions, hardly any understand.
|
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
आपे बखसे दे वडिआई ॥
Aapé bakʰsé ḋé vadi▫aa▫ee.
The Lord Himself forgives, and bestows His glorious greatness.
|
ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸੁ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
जो धुरि मिलिआ सु विछुड़ि न जाई ॥
Jo ḋʰur mili▫aa so vichʰuṛ na jaa▫ee.
Whoever meets with the Primal Lord God, shall never be separated again.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੪॥੩॥੧੨॥
नानक हरि हरि नामि समाई ॥४॥३॥१२॥
Naanak har har naam samaa▫ee. ||4||3||12||
Nanak is absorbed in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||4||3||12||

ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਈ ਕਹੈ ॥
रसना नामु सभु कोई कहै ॥
Rasnaa naam sabʰ ko▫ee kahæ.
Everyone speaks the Name of the Lord with the tongue.
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੇ ਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਲਹੈ ॥
सतिगुरु सेवे ता नामु लहै ॥
Saṫgur sévé ṫaa naam lahæ.
But only by serving the True Guru does the mortal receive the Name.

ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋੜੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਘਰਿ ਰਹੈ ॥
बंधन तोड़े मुकति घरि रहै ॥
Banḋʰan ṫoṛé mukaṫ gʰar rahæ.
His bonds are shattered, and he stays in the house of liberation.

ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੀ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਘਰਿ ਬਹੈ ॥੧॥
गुर सबदी असथिरु घरि बहै ॥१॥
Gur sabḋee asṫʰir gʰar bahæ. ||1||
Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, he sits in the eternal, unchanging house. ||1||
|
ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਕਾਹੇ ਰੋਸੁ ਕਰੀਜੈ ॥
मेरे मन काहे रोसु करीजै ॥
Méré man kaahé ros kareejæ.
O my mind! Why are you angry?
|
ਲਾਹਾ ਕਲਜੁਗਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਵੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
लाहा कलजुगि राम नामु है गुरमति अनदिनु हिरदै रवीजै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Laahaa kaljug raam naam hæ gurmaṫ an▫ḋin hirḋæ raveejæ. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Lord’s Name is the source of profit. Contemplate and appreciate the Guru’s Teachings within your heart, night and day. ||1||Pause||

ਬਾਬੀਹਾ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਬਿਲਲਾਇ ॥
बाबीहा खिनु खिनु बिललाइ ॥
Baabeehaa kʰin kʰin billaa▫é.
Each and every instant, the rain-bird cries and calls.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਦੇਖੇ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥
बिनु पिर देखे नींद न पाइ ॥
Bin pir ḋékʰé neeⁿḋ na paa▫é.
Without seeing her Beloved, she does not sleep at all.
|
ਇਹੁ ਵੇਛੋੜਾ ਸਹਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
इहु वेछोड़ा सहिआ न जाइ ॥
Ih véchʰoṛaa sahi▫aa na jaa▫é.
She cannot endure this separation.
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾਂ ਮਿਲੈ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥੨॥
सतिगुरु मिलै तां मिलै सुभाइ ॥२॥
Saṫgur milæ ṫaaⁿ milæ subʰaa▫é. ||2||
When she meets the True Guru, then she intuitively meets her Beloved. ||2||
|
ਨਾਮਹੀਣੁ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
नामहीणु बिनसै दुखु पाइ ॥
Naamheeṇ binsæ ḋukʰ paa▫é.
Lacking the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the mortal suffers and dies.
|
ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਜਲਿਆ ਭੂਖ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
त्रिसना जलिआ भूख न जाइ ॥
Ṫarisnaa jali▫aa bʰookʰ na jaa▫é.
He is burnt in the fire of desire, and his hunger does not depart.

ਵਿਣੁ ਭਾਗਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
विणु भागा नामु न पाइआ जाइ ॥
viṇ bʰaagaa naam na paa▫i▫aa jaa▫é.
Without good fortune he cannot find the Naam.
|
ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਥਾਕਾ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੩॥
बहु बिधि थाका करम कमाइ ॥३॥
Baho biḋʰ ṫʰaakaa karam kamaa▫é. ||3||
He performs all sorts of rituals until he is exhausted. ||3||
|
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਬਾਣੀ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
त्रै गुण बाणी बेद बीचारु ॥
Ṫaræ guṇ baṇee béḋ beechaar.
The mortal thinks about the Vedic teachings of the three gunas, the three dispositions.
|
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਮੈਲੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਵਾਪਾਰੁ ॥
बिखिआ मैलु बिखिआ वापारु ॥
Bikʰi▫aa mæl bikʰi▫aa vaapaar.
He deals in corruption, filth and vice.
|
ਮਰਿ ਜਨਮਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੋਹਿ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥
मरि जनमहि फिरि होहि खुआरु ॥
Mar janmėh fir hohi kʰu▫aar.
He dies, only to be reborn; he is ruined over and over again.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਤੁਰੀਆ ਗੁਣੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
गुरमुखि तुरीआ गुणु उरि धारु ॥४॥
Gurmukʰ ṫuree▫aa guṇ ur ḋʰaar. ||4||
The Gurmukh enshrines the glory of the supreme state of celestial peace. ||4||
|
ਗੁਰੁ ਮਾਨੈ ਮਾਨੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥
गुरु मानै मानै सभु कोइ ॥
Gur maanæ maanæ sabʰ ko▫é.
One who has faith in the Guru - everyone has faith in him.
|
ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
गुर बचनी मनु सीतलु होइ ॥
Gur bachnee man seeṫal ho▫é.
Through the Guru’s Word, the mind is cooled and soothed.
|
ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜਨੁ ਸੋਇ ॥
चहु जुगि सोभा निरमल जनु सोइ ॥
Chahu jug sobʰaa nirmal jan so▫é.
Throughout the four ages, that humble being is known to be pure.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਕੋਇ ॥੫॥੪॥੧੩॥੯॥੧੩॥੨੨॥
नानक गुरमुखि विरला कोइ ॥५॥४॥१३॥९॥१३॥२२॥
Naanak gurmukʰ virlaa ko▫é. ||5||4||13||9||13||22||
O Nanak! That Gurmukh is so rare. ||5||4||13||9||13||22||

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਓ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਮਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰੀ ॥
अनदिनु हरि हरि धिआइओ हिरदै मति गुरमति दूख विसारी ॥
An▫ḋin har har ḋʰi▫aa▫i▫o hirḋæ maṫ gurmaṫ ḋookʰ visaaree.
Night and day, I meditate on the Lord, Har, Har, within my heart; through the Guru’s Teachings, my pain is forgotten.

ਸਭ ਆਸਾ ਮਨਸਾ ਬੰਧਨ ਤੂਟੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
सभ आसा मनसा बंधन तूटे हरि हरि प्रभि किरपा धारी ॥१॥
Sabʰ aasaa mansaa banḋʰan ṫooté har har parabʰ kirpaa ḋʰaaree. ||1||
The chains of all my hopes and desires have been snapped; my Lord God has showered me with His Mercy. ||1||
|
ਨੈਨੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਤਾਰੀ ॥
नैनी हरि हरि लागी तारी ॥
Nænee har har laagee ṫaaree.
My eyes gaze eternally on the Lord, Har, Har.
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਗਸਿਓ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
सतिगुरु देखि मेरा मनु बिगसिओ जनु हरि भेटिओ बनवारी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Saṫgur ḋékʰ méraa man bigsi▫o jan har bʰéti▫o banvaaree. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Gazing on the True Guru, my mind blossoms forth. I have met with the Lord, the Lord of the World. ||1||Pause||
