ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਤਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਿਭੂਤਾ ਸਿੰਙੀ ਨਾਦੁ ਵਜਾਵਹਿ ॥
जा तुधु भावहि ता करहि बिभूता सिंङी नादु वजावहि ॥
Jaa ṫuḋʰ bʰaavėh ṫaa karahi bibʰooṫaa sińee naaḋ vajaavah.
When it pleases You, we smear our bodies with ashes, and blow the horn and the conch shell.

ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਪੜਹਿ ਕਤੇਬਾ ਮੁਲਾ ਸੇਖ ਕਹਾਵਹਿ ॥
जा तुधु भावै ता पड़हि कतेबा मुला सेख कहावहि ॥
Jaa ṫuḋʰ bʰaavæ ṫaa paṛėh kaṫébaa mulaa sékʰ kahaavėh.
When it pleases You, we read the Islamic Scriptures, and are acclaimed as Mullahs and Shaykhs.

ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਰਾਜੇ ਰਸ ਕਸ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ॥
जा तुधु भावै ता होवहि राजे रस कस बहुतु कमावहि ॥
Jaa ṫuḋʰ bʰaavæ ṫaa hovėh raajé ras kas bahuṫ kamaavėh.
When it pleases You, we become kings, and enjoy all sorts of tastes and pleasures.

ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤੇਗ ਵਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਿਰ ਮੁੰਡੀ ਕਟਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ॥
जा तुधु भावै तेग वगावहि सिर मुंडी कटि जावहि ॥
Jaa ṫuḋʰ bʰaavæ ṫég vagaavėh sir mundee kat jaavėh.
When it pleases You, we wield the sword, and cut off the heads of our enemies.

ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਜਾਹਿ ਦਿਸੰਤਰਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਗਲਾ ਘਰਿ ਆਵਹਿ ॥
जा तुधु भावै जाहि दिसंतरि सुणि गला घरि आवहि ॥
Jaa ṫuḋʰ bʰaavæ jaahi disanṫar suṇ galaa gʰar aavahi.
When it pleases You, we go out to foreign lands; hearing news of home, we come back again.

ਜਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਨਾਇ ਰਚਾਵਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਣੇ ਤੂੰ ਭਾਵਹਿ ॥
जा तुधु भावै नाइ रचावहि तुधु भाणे तूं भावहि ॥
Jaa ṫuḋʰ bʰaavæ naa▫é rachaavėh ṫuḋʰ bʰaaṇé ṫooⁿ bʰaavėh.
When it pleases You, we are attuned to the Name, and when it pleases You, we become pleasing to You.

ਨਾਨਕੁ ਏਕ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਹੋਰਿ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ॥੧॥
नानकु एक कहै बेनंती होरि सगले कूड़ु कमावहि ॥१॥
Naanak ék kahæ bénanṫee hor saglé kooṛ kamaavėh. ||1||
Nanak utters this one prayer; everything else is just the practice of falsehood. ||1||

ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਵਡਾ ਸਭਿ ਵਡਿਆਂਈਆ ਚੰਗੈ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
जा तूं वडा सभि वडिआंईआ चंगै चंगा होई ॥
Jaa ṫooⁿ vadaa sabʰ vadi▫aaⁿ▫ee▫aa changæ changa ho▫ee.
You are so Great-all Greatness flows from You. You are So Good-Goodness radiates from You.

ਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਤਾ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਸਚਾ ਕੂੜਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
जा तूं सचा ता सभु को सचा कूड़ा कोइ न कोई ॥
Jaa ṫooⁿ sachaa ṫaa sabʰ ko sachaa kooṛaa ko▫é na ko▫ee.
You are True-all that flows from You is True. Nothing at all is false.

ਆਖਣੁ ਵੇਖਣੁ ਬੋਲਣੁ ਚਲਣੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਧਾਤੁ ॥
आखणु वेखणु बोलणु चलणु जीवणु मरणा धातु ॥
Aakʰaṇ vékʰaṇ bolaṇ chalaṇ jeevaṇ marṇaa ḋʰaaṫ.
Talking, seeing, speaking, walking, living and dying-all these are transitory.
|
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਸਾਜਿ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਖੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਾ ਆਪਿ ॥੨॥
हुकमु साजि हुकमै विचि रखै नानक सचा आपि ॥२॥
Hukam saaj hukmæ vich rakʰæ Naanak sachaa aap. ||2||
By the Hukam of His Command, He creates, and in His Command, He keeps us. O Nanak! He Himself is True. ||2||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਨਿਸੰਗੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਈਐ ॥
सतिगुरु सेवि निसंगु भरमु चुकाईऐ ॥
Saṫgur sév nisang bʰaram chukʰaa▫ee▫æ.
Serve the True Guru fearlessly, and your doubt shall be dispelled.
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਆਖੈ ਕਾਰ ਸੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈਐ ॥
सतिगुरु आखै कार सु कार कमाईऐ ॥
Saṫgur aakʰæ kaar so kaar kamaa▫ee▫æ.
Do that work which the True Guru asks you to do.
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
सतिगुरु होइ दइआलु त नामु धिआईऐ ॥
Saṫgur ho▫é ḋa▫i▫aal ṫa naam ḋʰi▫aa▫ee▫æ.
When the True Guru becomes merciful, we meditate on the Naam.

ਲਾਹਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਸੁ ਸਾਰੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
लाहा भगति सु सारु गुरमुखि पाईऐ ॥
Laahaa bʰagaṫ so saar gurmukʰ paa▫ee▫æ.
The profit of devotional worship is excellent. It is obtained by the Gurmukh.
|
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਕੂੜੁ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਈਐ ॥
मनमुखि कूड़ु गुबारु कूड़ु कमाईऐ ॥
Manmukʰ kooṛ gubaar kooṛ kamaa▫ee▫æ.
The self-willed Manmukhs are trapped in the darkness of falsehood; they practice nothing but falsehood.
|
ਸਚੇ ਦੈ ਦਰਿ ਜਾਇ ਸਚੁ ਚਵਾਂਈਐ ॥
सचे दै दरि जाइ सचु चवांईऐ ॥
Saché ḋæ ḋar jaa▫é sach chavaaⁿ▫ee▫æ.
Go to the Gate of Truth, and speak the Truth.
|
ਸਚੈ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਮਹਲਿ ਸਚਿ ਬੁਲਾਈਐ ॥
सचै अंदरि महलि सचि बुलाईऐ ॥
Sachæ anḋar mahal sach bulaa▫ee▫æ.
The True Lord calls the true ones to the Mansion of His Presence.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ॥੧੫॥
नानक सचु सदा सचिआरु सचि समाईऐ ॥१५॥
Naanak sach saḋaa sachiaar sach samaa▫ee▫æ. ||15||
O Nanak! The true ones are forever true; they are absorbed in the True Lord. ||15||

ਕਲਿ ਕਾਤੀ ਰਾਜੇ ਕਾਸਾਈ ਧਰਮੁ ਪੰਖ ਕਰਿ ਉਡਰਿਆ ॥
कलि काती राजे कासाई धरमु पंख करि उडरिआ ॥
Kal kaaṫee raajé kaasaa▫ee ḋʰaram pankʰ kar udri▫aa.
The Dark Age of Kali Yuga is the knife, and the kings are butchers; righteousness has sprouted wings and flown away.

ਕੂੜੁ ਅਮਾਵਸ ਸਚੁ ਚੰਦ੍ਰਮਾ ਦੀਸੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਹ ਚੜਿਆ ॥
कूड़ु अमावस सचु चंद्रमा दीसै नाही कह चड़िआ ॥
Kooṛ amaavas sach chanḋarmaa ḋeesæ naahee kah chaṛi▫aa.
In this dark night of falsehood, the moon of Truth is not visible anywhere.
|
ਹਉ ਭਾਲਿ ਵਿਕੁੰਨੀ ਹੋਈ ॥
हउ भालि विकुंनी होई ॥
Ha▫o bʰaal vikunnee ho▫ee.
I have searched in vain, and I am so confused;
|
ਆਧੇਰੈ ਰਾਹੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
आधेरै राहु न कोई ॥
Aaḋʰaaræ raahu na ko▫ee.
in this darkness, I cannot find the path.
|
ਵਿਚਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਰੋਈ ॥
विचि हउमै करि दुखु रोई ॥
vich ha▫umæ kar ḋukʰ ro▫ee.
In egotism, they cry out in pain.
|
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਨਿ ਬਿਧਿ ਗਤਿ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥
कहु नानक किनि बिधि गति होई ॥१॥
Kaho Naanak kin biḋʰ gaṫ ho▫ee. ||1||
Says Nanak, how will they be saved? ||1||

ਕਲਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ॥
कलि कीरति परगटु चानणु संसारि ॥
Kal keeraṫ pargat chaanaṇ sansaar.
In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, the Kirtan of the Lord’s Praise has appeared as a Light in the world.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕੋਈ ਉਤਰੈ ਪਾਰਿ ॥
गुरमुखि कोई उतरै पारि ॥
Gurmukʰ ko▫ee uṫræ paar.
How rare are those few Gurmukhs who swim across to the other side!
|
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇਵੈ ॥
जिस नो नदरि करे तिसु देवै ॥
Jis no naḋar karé ṫis ḋévæ.
The Lord bestows His Glance of Grace;
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਸੋ ਲੇਵੈ ॥੨॥
नानक गुरमुखि रतनु सो लेवै ॥२॥
Naanak gurmukʰ raṫan so lévæ. ||2||
O Nanak! The Gurmukh receives the jewel. ||2||

Pauree:
|
ਭਗਤਾ ਤੈ ਸੈਸਾਰੀਆ ਜੋੜੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਆਇਆ ॥
भगता तै सैसारीआ जोड़ु कदे न आइआ ॥
Bʰagṫaa ṫæ sæsaaree▫aa joṛ kaḋé na aa▫i▫aa.
Between the Lord’s devotees and the people of the world, there can never be any true alliance.
|
ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਅਭੁਲੁ ਹੈ ਨ ਭੁਲੈ ਕਿਸੈ ਦਾ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥
करता आपि अभुलु है न भुलै किसै दा भुलाइआ ॥
Karṫaa aap abʰul hæ na bʰulæ kisæ ḋaa bʰulaa▫i▫aa.
The Creator Himself is infallible. He cannot be fooled; no one can fool Him.

ਭਗਤ ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲਿਅਨੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥
भगत आपे मेलिअनु जिनी सचो सचु कमाइआ ॥
Bʰagaṫ aapé méli▫an jinee sacho sach kamaa▫i▫aa.
He blends His devotees with Himself; they practice Truth, and only Truth.

ਸੈਸਾਰੀ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਇਅਨੁ ਜਿਨੀ ਕੂੜੁ ਬੋਲਿ ਬੋਲਿ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਇਆ ॥
सैसारी आपि खुआइअनु जिनी कूड़ु बोलि बोलि बिखु खाइआ ॥
Sæsaaree aap kʰu▫aa▫i▫an jinee kooṛ bol bol bikʰ kʰaa▫i▫aa.
The Lord Himself leads the people of the world astray; they tell lies, and by telling lies, they eat poison.
|
ਚਲਣ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਕਾਮੁ ਕਰੋਧੁ ਵਿਸੁ ਵਧਾਇਆ ॥
चलण सार न जाणनी कामु करोधु विसु वधाइआ ॥
Chalaṇ saar na jaaṇnee kaam karoḋʰ vis vaḋʰaa▫i▫aa.
They do not recognize the ultimate reality, that we all must go; they continue to cultivate the poisons of sexual desire and anger.
|
ਭਗਤ ਕਰਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਜਿਨੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
भगत करनि हरि चाकरी जिनी अनदिनु नामु धिआइआ ॥
Bʰagaṫ karan har chaakree jinee an▫ḋin naam ḋʰi▫aa▫i▫aa.
The devotees serve the Lord; night and day, they meditate on the Naam.

ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਜਿਨੀ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
दासनि दास होइ कै जिनी विचहु आपु गवाइआ ॥
Ḋaasan ḋaas ho▫é kæ jinee vichahu aap gavaa▫i▫aa.
Becoming the slaves of the Lord’s slaves, they eradicate selfishness and conceit from within.

ਓਨਾ ਖਸਮੈ ਕੈ ਦਰਿ ਮੁਖ ਉਜਲੇ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਇਆ ॥੧੬॥
ओना खसमै कै दरि मुख उजले सचै सबदि सुहाइआ ॥१६॥
Onaa kʰasmæ kæ ḋar mukʰ ujlé sachæ sabaḋ suhaa▫i▫aa. ||16||
In the Court of their Lord and Master, their faces are radiant; they are embellished and exalted with the True Word of the Shabad. ||16||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੧ ॥
सलोकु मः १ ॥
Salok mėhlaa 1.
Shalok, First Mehl:

ਸਬਾਹੀ ਸਾਲਾਹ ਜਿਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ॥
सबाही सालाह जिनी धिआइआ इक मनि ॥
Sabaahee saalaah jinee ḋʰi▫aa▫i▫aa ik man.
Those who praise the Lord in the early hours of the morning and meditate on Him single-mindedly,
|
ਸੇਈ ਪੂਰੇ ਸਾਹ ਵਖਤੈ ਉਪਰਿ ਲੜਿ ਮੁਏ ॥
सेई पूरे साह वखतै उपरि लड़ि मुए ॥
Sé▫ee pooré saah vakʰ▫ṫæ upar laṛ mu▫é.
are the perfect kings; at the right time, they die fighting.
|
ਦੂਜੈ ਬਹੁਤੇ ਰਾਹ ਮਨ ਕੀਆ ਮਤੀ ਖਿੰਡੀਆ ॥
दूजै बहुते राह मन कीआ मती खिंडीआ ॥
Ḋoojæ bahuṫé raah man kee▫aa maṫee kʰindee▫aa.
In the second watch, the focus of the mind is scattered in all sorts of ways.
|
ਬਹੁਤੁ ਪਏ ਅਸਗਾਹ ਗੋਤੇ ਖਾਹਿ ਨ ਨਿਕਲਹਿ ॥
बहुतु पए असगाह गोते खाहि न निकलहि ॥
Bahuṫ pa▫é asgaah goṫé kʰaahi na niklahi.
So many fall into the bottomless pit; they are dragged under, and they cannot get out again.
