ਜਾ ਕਉ ਤੁਮ ਭਏ ਸਮਰਥ ਅੰਗਾ ॥
जा कउ तुम भए समरथ अंगा ॥
Jaa ka▫o ṫum bʰa▫é samraṫʰ angaa.
Those who have You on their side, O All-powerful Lord -
|
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਾਲੰਗਾ ॥੧॥
ता कउ कछु नाही कालंगा ॥१॥
Ṫaa ka▫o kachʰ naahee kaalangaa. ||1||
no black stain can stick to them. ||1||
|
ਮਾਧਉ ਜਾ ਕਉ ਹੈ ਆਸ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥
माधउ जा कउ है आस तुमारी ॥
Maaḋʰa▫o jaa ka▫o hæ aas ṫumaaree.
O Lord of wealth, those who place their hopes in You, -
|
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਕਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੰਸਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ता कउ कछु नाही संसारी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ṫaa ka▫o kachʰ naahee sansaaree. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
nothing of the world can touch them at all. ||1||Pause||
|
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
जा कै हिरदै ठाकुरु होइ ॥
Jaa kæ hirḋæ tʰaakur ho▫é.
Those whose hearts are filled with their Lord and Master -
|
ਤਾ ਕਉ ਸਹਸਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥੨॥
ता कउ सहसा नाही कोइ ॥२॥
Ṫaa ka▫o sahsaa naahee ko▫é. ||2||
no anxiety can affect them. ||2||
|
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਤੁਮ ਦੀਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧੀਰ ॥
जा कउ तुम दीनी प्रभ धीर ॥
Jaa ka▫o ṫum ḋeenee parabʰ ḋʰeer.
Those, unto whom You give Your consolation, God -
|
ਤਾ ਕੈ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਪੀਰ ॥੩॥
ता कै निकटि न आवै पीर ॥३॥
Ṫaa kæ nikat na aavæ peer. ||3||
pain does not even approach them. ||3||
|
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੈ ਸੋ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
कहु नानक मै सो गुरु पाइआ ॥
Kaho Naanak mæ so gur paa▫i▫aa.
Says Nanak, I have found that Guru,

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪੂਰਨ ਦੇਖਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੪੧॥੧੧੦॥
पारब्रहम पूरन देखाइआ ॥४॥४१॥११०॥
Paarbarahm pooran ḋékʰaa▫i▫aa. ||4||41||110||
who has shown me the Perfect, Supreme Lord God. ||4||41||110||

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
|
ਦੁਲਭ ਦੇਹ ਪਾਈ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥
दुलभ देह पाई वडभागी ॥
Ḋulabʰ ḋéh paa▫ee vadbʰaagee.
This human body is so difficult to obtain; it is only obtained by great good fortune.
|
ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਜਪਹਿ ਤੇ ਆਤਮ ਘਾਤੀ ॥੧॥
नामु न जपहि ते आतम घाती ॥१॥
Naam na jaapėh ṫé aaṫam gʰaaṫee. ||1||
Those who do not meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, are murderers of the soul. ||1||
|
ਮਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਹੀ ਜਿਨਾ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਰਾਮ ॥
मरि न जाही जिना बिसरत राम ॥
Mar na jaahee jinaa bisraṫ raam.
Those who forget the Lord might just as well die.
|
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਨ ਜੀਵਨ ਕਉਨ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
नाम बिहून जीवन कउन काम ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Naam bihoon jeevan ka▫un kaam. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Without the Naam, of what use are their lives? ||1||Pause||
|
ਖਾਤ ਪੀਤ ਖੇਲਤ ਹਸਤ ਬਿਸਥਾਰ ॥
खात पीत खेलत हसत बिसथार ॥
Kʰaaṫ peeṫ kʰélaṫ hasaṫ bisṫʰaar.
Eating, drinking, playing, laughing and showing off -
|
ਕਵਨ ਅਰਥ ਮਿਰਤਕ ਸੀਗਾਰ ॥੨॥
कवन अरथ मिरतक सीगार ॥२॥
Kavan araṫʰ mirṫak seegaar. ||2||
what use are the ostentatious displays of the dead? ||2||
|
ਜੋ ਨ ਸੁਨਹਿ ਜਸੁ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦਾ ॥
जो न सुनहि जसु परमानंदा ॥
Jo na sunėh jas parmaananḋaa.
Those who do not listen to the Praises of the Lord of supreme bliss,
|
ਪਸੁ ਪੰਖੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਗਦ ਜੋਨਿ ਤੇ ਮੰਦਾ ॥੩॥
पसु पंखी त्रिगद जोनि ते मंदा ॥३॥
Pas pankʰee ṫarigaḋ jon ṫé manḋaa. ||3||
are worse off than beasts, birds or creeping creatures. ||3||
|
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥
कहु नानक गुरि मंत्रु द्रिड़ाइआ ॥
Kaho Naanak gur manṫar driṛ▫aa▫i▫aa.
Says Nanak, the GurMantra has been implanted within me;

ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਿਦ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੪੨॥੧੧੧॥
केवल नामु रिद माहि समाइआ ॥४॥४२॥१११॥
Kéval naam riḋ maahi samaa▫i▫aa. ||4||42||111||
the Name alone is contained within my heart. ||4||42||111||

ਕਾ ਕੀ ਮਾਈ ਕਾ ਕੋ ਬਾਪ ॥
का की माई का को बाप ॥
Kaa kee maa▫ee kaa ko baap.
Whose mother is this? Whose father is this?
|
ਨਾਮ ਧਾਰੀਕ ਝੂਠੇ ਸਭਿ ਸਾਕ ॥੧॥
नाम धारीक झूठे सभि साक ॥१॥
Naam ḋʰaareek jʰootʰé sabʰ saak. ||1||
They are relatives in name only- they are all false. ||1||
|
ਕਾਹੇ ਕਉ ਮੂਰਖ ਭਖਲਾਇਆ ॥
काहे कउ मूरख भखलाइआ ॥
Kaahé ka▫o moorakʰ bʰakʰlaa▫i▫aa.
Why are you screaming and shouting, you fool?
|
ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਜੋਗਿ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਤੂੰ ਆਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
मिलि संजोगि हुकमि तूं आइआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Mil sanjog hukam ṫooⁿ aa▫i▫aa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
By good destiny and the Lord’s Order, you have come into the world. ||1||Pause||
|
ਏਕਾ ਮਾਟੀ ਏਕਾ ਜੋਤਿ ॥
एका माटी एका जोति ॥
Ékaa maatee ékaa joṫ.
There is the one dust, the one light,
|
ਏਕੋ ਪਵਨੁ ਕਹਾ ਕਉਨੁ ਰੋਤਿ ॥੨॥
एको पवनु कहा कउनु रोति ॥२॥
Éko pavan kahaa ka▫un roṫ. ||2||
the one Praanic wind. Why are you crying? For whom do you cry? ||2||
|
ਮੇਰਾ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਰਿ ਬਿਲਲਾਹੀ ॥
मेरा मेरा करि बिललाही ॥
Méraa méraa kar billaahee.
People weep and cry out, “Mine! mine!”
|
ਮਰਣਹਾਰੁ ਇਹੁ ਜੀਅਰਾ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੩॥
मरणहारु इहु जीअरा नाही ॥३॥
Maraṇhaar ih jee▫araa naahee. ||3||
This soul is not perishable. ||3||
|
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਿ ਖੋਲੇ ਕਪਾਟ ॥
कहु नानक गुरि खोले कपाट ॥
Kaho Naanak gur kʰolé kapaat.
Says Nanak, the Guru has opened my shutters;

ਮੁਕਤੁ ਭਏ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਥਾਟ ॥੪॥੪੩॥੧੧੨॥
मुकतु भए बिनसे भ्रम थाट ॥४॥४३॥११२॥
Mukaṫ bʰa▫é binsé bʰaram ṫʰaat. ||4||43||112||
I am liberated, and my doubts have been dispelled. ||4||43||112||

ਵਡੇ ਵਡੇ ਜੋ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਲੋਗ ॥
वडे वडे जो दीसहि लोग ॥
vadé vadé jo ḋeesėh log.
Those who seem to be great and powerful,
|
ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਰੋਗ ॥੧॥
तिन कउ बिआपै चिंता रोग ॥१॥
Ṫin ka▫o bi▫aapæ chinṫaa rog. ||1||
are afflicted by the disease of anxiety. ||1||
|
ਕਉਨ ਵਡਾ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
कउन वडा माइआ वडिआई ॥
Ka▫un vadaa maa▫i▫aa vadi▫aa▫ee.
Who is great by the greatness of Maya?
|
ਸੋ ਵਡਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਾਮ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
सो वडा जिनि राम लिव लाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
So vadaa jin raam liv laa▫ee. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
They alone are great, who are lovingly attached to the Lord. ||1||Pause||
|
ਭੂਮੀਆ ਭੂਮਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਨਿਤ ਲੁਝੈ ॥
भूमीआ भूमि ऊपरि नित लुझै ॥
Bʰoomee▫aa bʰoom oopar niṫ lujʰæ.
The landlord fights over his land each day.
|
ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਨਹੀ ਬੁਝੈ ॥੨॥
छोडि चलै त्रिसना नही बुझै ॥२॥
Chʰod chalæ ṫarisnaa nahee bujʰæ. ||2||
He shall have to leave it in the end, and yet his desire is still not satisfied. ||2||
|
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
कहु नानक इहु ततु बीचारा ॥
Kaho Naanak ih ṫaṫ beechaaraa.
Says Nanak, this is the essence of Truth:
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨ ਨਾਹੀ ਛੁਟਕਾਰਾ ॥੩॥੪੪॥੧੧੩॥
बिनु हरि भजन नाही छुटकारा ॥३॥४४॥११३॥
Bin har bʰajan naahee chʰutkaaraa. ||3||44||113||
without the Lord’s meditation, there is no salvation. ||3||44||113||
|

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
|
ਪੂਰਾ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ॥
पूरा मारगु पूरा इसनानु ॥
Pooraa maarag pooraa isnaan.
Perfect is the path; perfect is the cleansing bath.
|
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥
सभु किछु पूरा हिरदै नामु ॥१॥
Sabʰ kichʰ pooraa hirḋæ naam. ||1||
Everything is perfect, if the Naam is in the heart. ||1||
|
ਪੂਰੀ ਰਹੀ ਜਾ ਪੂਰੈ ਰਾਖੀ ॥
पूरी रही जा पूरै राखी ॥
Pooree rahee jaa pooræ raakʰee.
one’s honor remains perfect, when the Perfect Lord preserves it.
|
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਜਨ ਤਾਕੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
पारब्रहम की सरणि जन ताकी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Paarbarahm kee saraṇ jan ṫaakee. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
His servant takes to the Sanctuary of the Supreme Lord God. ||1||Pause||
|
ਪੂਰਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ॥
पूरा सुखु पूरा संतोखु ॥
Pooraa sukʰ pooraa sanṫokʰ.
Perfect is the peace; perfect is the contentment.
|
ਪੂਰਾ ਤਪੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੋਗੁ ॥੨॥
पूरा तपु पूरन राजु जोगु ॥२॥
Pooraa ṫap pooran raaj jog. ||2||
Perfect is the penance; perfect is the Raja Yoga, the Yoga of meditation and success. ||2||
|
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ॥
हरि कै मारगि पतित पुनीत ॥
Har kæ maarag paṫiṫ puneeṫ.
On the Lord’s Path, sinners are purified.
|
ਪੂਰੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਪੂਰਾ ਲੋਕੀਕ ॥੩॥
पूरी सोभा पूरा लोकीक ॥३॥
Pooree sobʰaa pooraa lokeek. ||3||
Perfect is their glory; perfect is their humanity. ||3||
|
ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ਸਦ ਵਸੈ ਹਦੂਰਾ ॥
करणहारु सद वसै हदूरा ॥
Karanhaar saḋ vasæ haḋooraa.
They dwell forever in the Presence of the Creator Lord.
|
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥੪॥੪੫॥੧੧੪॥
कहु नानक मेरा सतिगुरु पूरा ॥४॥४५॥११४॥
Kaho Naanak méraa saṫgur pooraa. ||4||45||114||
Says Nanak, my True Guru is Perfect. ||4||45||114||

Sanṫ kee ḋʰoor mité agʰ kot.
Millions of sins are wiped away by the dust of the feet of the Saints.
