ਰੂਪਵੰਤੁ ਸੋ ਚਤੁਰੁ ਸਿਆਣਾ ॥
रूपवंतु सो चतुरु सिआणा ॥
Roopvanṫ so chaṫur si▫aaṇaa.
They alone are handsome, clever and wise,
|
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਨਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਾ ਭਾਣਾ ॥੨॥
जिनि जनि मानिआ प्रभ का भाणा ॥२॥
Jin jan maani▫aa parabʰ kaa bʰaaṇaa. ||2||
who surrender to the Will of God. ||2||
|
ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਆਇਆ ਸੋ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
जग महि आइआ सो परवाणु ॥
Jag mėh aa▫i▫aa so parvaaṇ.
Blessed is their coming into this world,
|
ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਅਪਣਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਜਾਣੁ ॥੩॥
घटि घटि अपणा सुआमी जाणु ॥३॥
Gʰat gʰat apṇaa su▫aamee jaaṇ. ||3||
if they recognize their Lord and Master in each and every heart. ||3||
|
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਾਗ ॥
कहु नानक जा के पूरन भाग ॥
Kaho Naanak jaa ké pooran bʰaag.
Says Nanak, their good fortune is perfect,
|
ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣੀ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਗ ॥੪॥੯੦॥੧੫੯॥
हरि चरणी ता का मनु लाग ॥४॥९०॥१५९॥
Har charṇee ṫaa kaa man laag. ||4||90||159||
if they enshrine the Lord’s Feet within their minds. ||4||90||159||

Ga▫oṛee mėhlaa 5.
Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
|
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਾਸ ਸਿਉ ਸਾਕਤ ਨਹੀ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
हरि के दास सिउ साकत नही संगु ॥
Har ké ḋaas si▫o saakaṫ nahee sang.
The Lord’s servant does not associate with the faithless cynic.
|
ਓਹੁ ਬਿਖਈ ਓਸੁ ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਰੰਗੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ओहु बिखई ओसु राम को रंगु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Oh bikʰ▫ee os raam ko rang. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
One is in the clutches of vice, while the other is in love with the Lord. ||1||Pause||
|
ਮਨ ਅਸਵਾਰ ਜੈਸੇ ਤੁਰੀ ਸੀਗਾਰੀ ॥
मन असवार जैसे तुरी सीगारी ॥
Man asvaar jæsé ṫuree seegaaree.
It would be like an imaginary rider on a decorated horse,
|
ਜਿਉ ਕਾਪੁਰਖੁ ਪੁਚਾਰੈ ਨਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
जिउ कापुरखु पुचारै नारी ॥१॥
Ji▫o kaapurakʰ puchaaræ naaree. ||1||
or a eunuch caressing a woman. ||1||
|
ਬੈਲ ਕਉ ਨੇਤ੍ਰਾ ਪਾਇ ਦੁਹਾਵੈ ॥
बैल कउ नेत्रा पाइ दुहावै ॥
Bæl ka▫o néṫaraa paa▫é ḋuhaavæ.
It would be like tying up an ox and trying to milk it,
|
ਗਊ ਚਰਿ ਸਿੰਘ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
गऊ चरि सिंघ पाछै पावै ॥२॥
Ga▫oo char singʰ paachʰæ paavæ. ||2||
or riding a cow to chase a tiger. ||2||
|
ਗਾਡਰ ਲੇ ਕਾਮਧੇਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਪੂਜੀ ॥
गाडर ले कामधेनु करि पूजी ॥
Gaadar lé kaamḋʰén kar poojee.
It would be like taking a sheep and worshiping it as the Elysian cow,
|
ਸਉਦੇ ਕਉ ਧਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਪੂੰਜੀ ॥੩॥
सउदे कउ धावै बिनु पूंजी ॥३॥
Sa▫uḋé ka▫o ḋʰaavæ bin poonjee. ||3||
the giver of all blessings; it would be like going out shopping without any money. ||3||
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਚੀਤ ॥
नानक राम नामु जपि चीत ॥
Naanak raam naam jap cheeṫ.
O Nanak! Consciously meditate on the Lord’s Name.
|
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਾ ਮੀਤ ॥੪॥੯੧॥੧੬੦॥
सिमरि सुआमी हरि सा मीत ॥४॥९१॥१६०॥
Simar su▫aamee har saa meeṫ. ||4||91||160||
Meditate in remembrance of the Lord Master, your Best Friend. ||4||91||160||

Gauree, Fifth Mehl:
|
ਸਾ ਮਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਕਹੀਅਤ ਧੀਰ ॥
सा मति निरमल कहीअत धीर ॥
Saa maṫ nirmal kahee▫aṫ ḋʰeer.
Pure and steady is that intellect,
|
ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਪੀਵਤ ਬੀਰ ॥੧॥
राम रसाइणु पीवत बीर ॥१॥
Raam rasaa▫iṇ peevaṫ beer. ||1||
which drinks in the Lord’s sublime essence. ||1||
|
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਕਰਿ ਓਟ ॥
हरि के चरण हिरदै करि ओट ॥
Har ké charaṇ hirḋæ kar ot.
Keep the Support of the Lord’s Feet in your heart,
|
ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਤੇ ਹੋਵਤ ਛੋਟ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
जनम मरण ते होवत छोट ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Janam maraṇ ṫé hovaṫ chʰot. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
and you shall be saved from the cycle of birth and death. ||1||Pause||
|
ਸੋ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਉਪਜੈ ਨ ਪਾਪੁ ॥
सो तनु निरमलु जितु उपजै न पापु ॥
So ṫan nirmal jiṫ upjæ na paap.
Pure is that body, in which sin does not arise.
|
ਰਾਮ ਰੰਗਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਪਰਤਾਪੁ ॥੨॥
राम रंगि निरमल परतापु ॥२॥
Raam rang nirmal parṫaap. ||2||
In the Love of the Lord is pure glory. ||2||
|
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਮਿਟਿ ਜਾਤ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
साधसंगि मिटि जात बिकार ॥
Saaḋʰsang mit jaaṫ bikaar.
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, corruption is eradicated.
|
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਏਹੋ ਉਪਕਾਰ ॥੩॥
सभ ते ऊच एहो उपकार ॥३॥
Sabʰ ṫé ooch ého upkaar. ||3||
This is the greatest blessing of all. ||3||
|
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
प्रेम भगति राते गोपाल ॥
Parém bʰagaṫ raaṫé gopaal.
Imbued with loving devotional worship of the Sustainer of the Universe,
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾਚੈ ਸਾਧ ਰਵਾਲ ॥੪॥੯੨॥੧੬੧॥
नानक जाचै साध रवाल ॥४॥९२॥१६१॥
Naanak jaachæ saaḋʰ ravaal. ||4||92||161||
Nanak asks for the dust of the feet of the Holy. ||4||92||161||

ਐਸੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
ऐसी प्रीति गोविंद सिउ लागी ॥
Æsee pareeṫ govinḋ si▫o laagee.
Such is my love for the Lord of the Universe;
|
ਮੇਲਿ ਲਏ ਪੂਰਨ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
मेलि लए पूरन वडभागी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Mél la▫é pooran vadbʰaagee. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
through perfect good destiny, I have been united with Him. ||1||Pause||
|
ਭਰਤਾ ਪੇਖਿ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਜਿਉ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
भरता पेखि बिगसै जिउ नारी ॥
Bʰarṫaa pékʰ bigsæ ji▫o naaree.
As the wife is delighted upon beholding her husband,
|
ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਜੀਵੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਚਿਤਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
तिउ हरि जनु जीवै नामु चितारी ॥१॥
Ṫi▫o har jan jeevæ naam chiṫaaree. ||1||
So does the Lord’s humble servant live by chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||
|
ਪੂਤ ਪੇਖਿ ਜਿਉ ਜੀਵਤ ਮਾਤਾ ॥
पूत पेखि जिउ जीवत माता ॥
Pooṫ pékʰ ji▫o jeevaṫ maaṫaa.
As the mother is rejuvenated upon seeing her son,
|
ਓਤਿ ਪੋਤਿ ਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤਾ ॥੨॥
ओति पोति जनु हरि सिउ राता ॥२॥
Oṫ poṫ jan har si▫o raaṫaa. ||2||
So is the Lord’s humble servant imbued with Him, through and through. ||2||
|
ਲੋਭੀ ਅਨਦੁ ਕਰੈ ਪੇਖਿ ਧਨਾ ॥
लोभी अनदु करै पेखि धना ॥
Lobʰee anaḋ karæ pékʰ ḋʰanaa.
As the greedy man rejoices upon beholding his wealth,
|
ਜਨ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗੋ ਮਨਾ ॥੩॥
जन चरन कमल सिउ लागो मना ॥३॥
Jan charan kamal si▫o laago manaa. ||3||
So is the mind of the Lord’s humble servant attached to His Lotus Feet. ||3||
|
ਬਿਸਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਇਕੁ ਤਿਲੁ ਦਾਤਾਰ ॥
बिसरु नही इकु तिलु दातार ॥
Bisar nahee ik ṫil ḋaaṫaar.
May I never forget You, for even an instant, O Great Giver!
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰ ॥੪॥੯੩॥੧੬੨॥
नानक के प्रभ प्रान अधार ॥४॥९३॥१६२॥
Naanak ké parabʰ paraan aḋʰaar. ||4||93||162||
Nanak’s God is the Support of his breath of life. ||4||93||162||

ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਣਿ ਜੋ ਜਨ ਗੀਧੇ ॥
राम रसाइणि जो जन गीधे ॥
Raam rasaa▫iṇ jo jan geeḋʰé.
Those humble beings who are accustomed to the Lord’s sublime essence,
|
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤੀ ਬੀਧੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
चरन कमल प्रेम भगती बीधे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Charan kamal parém bʰagṫee beeḋʰé. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
are pierced through with loving devotional worship of the Lord’s Lotus Feet. ||1||Pause||
|
ਆਨ ਰਸਾ ਦੀਸਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਛਾਰੁ ॥
आन रसा दीसहि सभि छारु ॥
Aan rasaa ḋeesėh sabʰ chʰaar.
All other pleasures look like ashes;
|
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥੧॥
नाम बिना निहफल संसार ॥१॥
Naam binaa nihfal sansaar. ||1||
without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the world is fruitless. ||1||
|
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਕਾਢੇ ਆਪਿ ॥
अंध कूप ते काढे आपि ॥
Anḋʰ koop ṫé kaadʰé aap.
He Himself rescues us from the deep dark well.
|
ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਅਚਰਜ ਪਰਤਾਪ ॥੨॥
गुण गोविंद अचरज परताप ॥२॥
Guṇ govinḋ achraj parṫaap. ||2||
Wondrous and Glorious are the Praises of the Lord of the Universe. ||2||
|
ਵਣਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਣਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਗੋਪਾਲ ॥
वणि त्रिणि त्रिभवणि पूरन गोपाल ॥
vaṇ ṫariṇ ṫaribʰavaṇ pooran gopaal.
In the woods and meadows, and throughout the three worlds, the Sustainer of the Universe is pervading.
|
ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਸਾਰੁ ਜੀਅ ਸੰਗਿ ਦਇਆਲ ॥੩॥
ब्रहम पसारु जीअ संगि दइआल ॥३॥
Barahm pasaar jee▫a sang ḋa▫i▫aal. ||3||
The Expansive Lord God is Merciful to all beings. ||3||
|
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾ ਕਥਨੀ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
कहु नानक सा कथनी सारु ॥
Kaho Naanak saa kaṫʰnee saar.
Says Nanak, that speech alone is excellent,
|
ਮਾਨਿ ਲੇਤੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰੁ ॥੪॥੯੪॥੧੬੩॥
मानि लेतु जिसु सिरजनहारु ॥४॥९४॥१६३॥
Maan léṫ jis sirjanhaar. ||4||94||163||
which is approved by the Creator Lord. ||4||94||163||

ਨਿਤਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਨਾਵਣੁ ਰਾਮ ਸਰਿ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
नितप्रति नावणु राम सरि कीजै ॥
Niṫparaṫ naavaṇ raam sar keejæ.
Every day, take your bath in the Sacred Pool of the Lord.
|
ਝੋਲਿ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਜੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
झोलि महा रसु हरि अमृतु पीजै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Jʰol mahaa ras har amriṫ peejæ. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Mix and drink the most delicious, sublime Ambrosial Nectar of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
|
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਉਦਕੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਕਾ ਨਾਮ ॥
निरमल उदकु गोविंद का नाम ॥
Nirmal uḋak govinḋ kaa naam.
The water of the Name of the Lord of the Universe is immaculate and pure.
|
ਮਜਨੁ ਕਰਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਭਿ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥
मजनु करत पूरन सभि काम ॥१॥
Majan karaṫ pooran sabʰ kaam. ||1||
Take your cleansing bath in it, and all your affairs shall be resolved. ||1||
