ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਸਾਧ ਮਗ ਸੁਨਿ ਕਰਿ ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
बेद पुरान साध मग सुनि करि निमख न हरि गुन गावै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Béḋ puraan saaḋʰ mag sun kar nimakʰ na har gun gaavæ. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
This mind listens to the Vedas, the Puranas, and the ways of the Holy Saints, but it does not sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, for even an instant. ||1||Pause||

ਦੁਰਲਭ ਦੇਹ ਪਾਇ ਮਾਨਸ ਕੀ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਿਰਾਵੈ ॥
दुरलभ देह पाइ मानस की बिरथा जनमु सिरावै ॥
Ḋurlabʰ ḋéh paa▫é maanas kee birṫʰaa janam siraavæ.
Having obtained this human body, so very difficult to obtain, it is now being uselessly wasted.

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਮਹਾ ਸੰਕਟ ਬਨ ਤਾ ਸਿਉ ਰੁਚ ਉਪਜਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
माइआ मोह महा संकट बन ता सिउ रुच उपजावै ॥१॥
Maa▫i▫aa moh mahaa sankat ban ṫaa si▫o ruch upjaavæ. ||1||
Emotional attachment to Maya is such a treacherous wilderness, and yet, people are in love with it. ||1||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੰਗਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਤਾ ਸਿਉ ਨੇਹੁ ਨ ਲਾਵੈ ॥
अंतरि बाहरि सदा संगि प्रभु ता सिउ नेहु न लावै ॥
Anṫar baahar saḋaa sang parabʰ ṫaa si▫o néhu na laavæ.
Inwardly and outwardly, God is always with them, and yet, they do not enshrine Love for Him.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਤੁਮ ਮਾਨਹੁ ਜਿਹ ਘਟਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥੨॥੬॥
नानक मुकति ताहि तुम मानहु जिह घटि रामु समावै ॥२॥६॥
Naanak mukaṫ ṫaahi ṫum maanhu jih gʰat raam samaavæ. ||2||6||
O Nanak! Know that those whose hearts are filled with the Lord are liberated. ||2||6||

Gauree, Ninth Mehl:

ਸਾਧੋ ਰਾਮ ਸਰਨਿ ਬਿਸਰਾਮਾ ॥
साधो राम सरनि बिसरामा ॥
Saaḋʰo raam saran bisraamaa.
Holy Sadhus: rest and peace are in the Sanctuary of the Lord.

ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਪੜੇ ਕੋ ਇਹ ਗੁਨ ਸਿਮਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
बेद पुरान पड़े को इह गुन सिमरे हरि को नामा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Béḋ puraan paṛé ko ih gun simré har ko naamaa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
This is the blessing of studying the Vedas and the Puranas, that you may meditate on the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਮਤਾ ਫੁਨਿ ਅਉ ਬਿਖਿਅਨ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ॥
लोभ मोह माइआ ममता फुनि अउ बिखिअन की सेवा ॥
Lobʰ moh maa▫i▫aa mamṫaa fun a▫o bikʰi▫an kee sévaa.
Greed, emotional attachment to Maya, possessiveness, the service of evil,
|
ਹਰਖ ਸੋਗ ਪਰਸੈ ਜਿਹ ਨਾਹਨਿ ਸੋ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਹੈ ਦੇਵਾ ॥੧॥
हरख सोग परसै जिह नाहनि सो मूरति है देवा ॥१॥
Harakʰ sog parsæ jih naahan so mooraṫ hæ ḋévaa. ||1||
pleasure and pain - those who are not touched by these, are the very embodiment of the Divine Lord. ||1||
|
ਸੁਰਗ ਨਰਕ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਿਖੁ ਏ ਸਭ ਤਿਉ ਕੰਚਨ ਅਰੁ ਪੈਸਾ ॥
सुरग नरक अमृत बिखु ए सभ तिउ कंचन अरु पैसा ॥
Surag narak amriṫ bikʰ é sabʰ ṫi▫o kanchan ar pæsaa.
Heaven and hell, ambrosial nectar and poison, gold and copper - these are all alike to them.

ਉਸਤਤਿ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਏ ਸਮ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਲੋਭੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਫੁਨਿ ਤੈਸਾ ॥੨॥
उसतति निंदा ए सम जा कै लोभु मोहु फुनि तैसा ॥२॥
Usṫaṫ ninḋaa é sam jaa kæ lobʰ moh fun ṫæsaa. ||2||
Praise and slander are all the same to them, as are greed and attachment. ||2||
|
ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਏ ਬਾਧੇ ਜਿਹ ਨਾਹਨਿ ਤਿਹ ਤੁਮ ਜਾਨਉ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥
दुखु सुखु ए बाधे जिह नाहनि तिह तुम जानउ गिआनी ॥
Ḋukʰ sukʰ é baaḋʰé jih naahan ṫih ṫum jaan▫o gi▫aanee.
They are not bound by pleasure and pain - know that they are truly wise.

ਨਾਨਕ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਤੁਮ ਮਾਨਉ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੋ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ॥੩॥੭॥
नानक मुकति ताहि तुम मानउ इह बिधि को जो प्रानी ॥३॥७॥
Naanak mukaṫ ṫaahi ṫum maan▫o ih biḋʰ ko jo paraanee. ||3||7||
O Nanak! Recognize those mortal beings as liberated, who live this way of life. ||3||7||

ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੯ ॥
गउड़ी महला ९ ॥
Ga▫oṛee mėhlaa 9.
Gauree, Ninth Mehl:

ਮਨ ਰੇ ਕਹਾ ਭਇਓ ਤੈ ਬਉਰਾ ॥
मन रे कहा भइओ तै बउरा ॥
Man ré kahaa bʰa▫i▫o ṫæ ba▫uraa.
O mind, why have you gone crazy?
|
ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਅਉਧ ਘਟੈ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੈ ਭਇਓ ਲੋਭ ਸੰਗਿ ਹਉਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
अहिनिसि अउध घटै नही जानै भइओ लोभ संगि हउरा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ahinis a▫oḋʰ gʰatæ nahee jaanæ bʰa▫i▫o lobʰ sang ha▫uraa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Don’t you know that your life is decreasing day and night? Your life is made worthless with greed. ||1||Pause||
|
ਜੋ ਤਨੁ ਤੈ ਅਪਨੋ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਿਓ ਅਰੁ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
जो तनु तै अपनो करि मानिओ अरु सुंदर ग्रिह नारी ॥
Jo ṫan ṫæ apno kar maani▫o ar sunḋar garih naaree.
That body, which you believe to be your own, and your beautiful home and spouse -
|
ਇਨ ਮੈਂ ਕਛੁ ਤੇਰੋ ਰੇ ਨਾਹਨਿ ਦੇਖੋ ਸੋਚ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
इन मैं कछु तेरो रे नाहनि देखो सोच बिचारी ॥१॥
In mæⁿ kachʰ ṫéro ré naahan ḋékʰo soch bichaaree. ||1||
none of these is yours to keep. See this, reflect upon it and understand. ||1||
|
ਰਤਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਅਪਨੋ ਤੈ ਹਾਰਿਓ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੀ ॥
रतन जनमु अपनो तै हारिओ गोबिंद गति नही जानी ॥
Raṫan janam apno ṫæ haari▫o gobinḋ gaṫ nahee jaanee.
You have wasted the precious jewel of this human life; you do not know the Way of the Lord of the Universe.

ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਲੀਨ ਭਇਓ ਚਰਨਨ ਸਿਂਉ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਅਉਧ ਸਿਰਾਨੀ ॥੨॥
निमख न लीन भइओ चरनन सिंउ बिरथा अउध सिरानी ॥२॥
Nimakʰ na leen bʰa▫i▫o charnan siⁿ▫o birṫʰaa a▫oḋʰ siraanee. ||2||
You have not been absorbed in the Lord’s Feet, even for an instant. Your life has passed away in vain! ||2||
|
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੋਈ ਨਰੁ ਸੁਖੀਆ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
कहु नानक सोई नरु सुखीआ राम नाम गुन गावै ॥
Kaho Naanak so▫ee nar sukʰee▫aa raam naam gun gaavæ.
Says Nanak, that man is happy, who sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord’s Name.

ਅਉਰ ਸਗਲ ਜਗੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਨਿਰਭੈ ਪਦੁ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥੮॥
अउर सगल जगु माइआ मोहिआ निरभै पदु नही पावै ॥३॥८॥
A▫or sagal jag maa▫i▫aa mohi▫aa nirbʰæ paḋ nahee paavæ. ||3||8||
All the rest of the world is enticed by Maya; they do not obtain the state of fearless dignity. ||3||8||

ਨਰ ਅਚੇਤ ਪਾਪ ਤੇ ਡਰੁ ਰੇ ॥
नर अचेत पाप ते डरु रे ॥
Nar achéṫ paap ṫé dar ré.
You people are unconscious; you should be afraid of sin.
|
ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਸਗਲ ਭੈ ਭੰਜਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਤੁਮ ਪਰੁ ਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
दीन दइआल सगल भै भंजन सरनि ताहि तुम परु रे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ḋeen ḋa▫i▫aal sagal bʰæ bʰanjan saran ṫaahi ṫum par ré. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Seek the Sanctuary of the Lord, Merciful to the meek, Destroyer of all fear. ||1||Pause||
|
ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਜਾਸ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਤ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੀਐ ਮੋ ਧਰੁ ਰੇ ॥
बेद पुरान जास गुन गावत ता को नामु हीऐ मो धरु रे ॥
Béḋ puraan jaas gun gaavaṫ ṫaa ko naam hee▫æ mo ḋʰar ré.
The Vedas and the Puranas sing His Praises; enshrine His Name within your heart.

ਪਾਵਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਗਤਿ ਮੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਕਸਮਲ ਸਭ ਹਰੁ ਰੇ ॥੧॥
पावन नामु जगति मै हरि को सिमरि सिमरि कसमल सभ हरु रे ॥१॥
Paavan naam jagaṫ mæ har ko simar simar kasmal sabʰ har ré. ||1||
Pure and sublime is the Name of the Lord in the world. Remembering it in meditation, all sinful mistakes shall be washed away. ||1||
|
ਮਾਨਸ ਦੇਹ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨਹ ਪਾਵੈ ਕਛੂ ਉਪਾਉ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਾ ਕਰੁ ਰੇ ॥
मानस देह बहुरि नह पावै कछू उपाउ मुकति का करु रे ॥
Maanas ḋéh bahur nah paavæ kachʰoo upaa▫o mukaṫ kaa kar ré.
You shall not obtain this human body again; make the effort - try to achieve liberation!

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਹਤ ਗਾਇ ਕਰੁਨਾ ਮੈ ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰ ਕੈ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਰੁ ਰੇ ॥੨॥੯॥੨੫੧॥
नानक कहत गाइ करुना मै भव सागर कै पारि उतरु रे ॥२॥९॥२५१॥
Naanak kahaṫ gaa▫é karunaa mæ bʰav saagar kæ paar uṫar ré. ||2||9||251||
Says Nanak, sing of the Lord of compassion, and cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||2||9||251||

Ik▫oaⁿkaar saṫnaam karṫaa purakʰ gur parsaaḋ.

ਨਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
निधि सिधि निरमल नामु बीचारु ॥
Niḋʰ siḋʰ nirmal naam beechaar.
The nine treasures and the miraculous spiritual powers come by contemplating the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
पूरन पूरि रहिआ बिखु मारि ॥
Pooran poor rahi▫aa bikʰ maar.
The Perfect Lord is All-pervading everywhere; He destroys the poison of Maya.

ਤ੍ਰਿਕੁਟੀ ਛੂਟੀ ਬਿਮਲ ਮਝਾਰਿ ॥
त्रिकुटी छूटी बिमल मझारि ॥
Ṫarikutee chʰootee bimal majʰaar.
I am rid of the three-phased Maya, dwelling in the Pure Lord.
