ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
गुरमुखि विचहु हउमै जाइ ॥
Gurmukʰ vichahu ha▫umæ jaa▫é.
The Gurmukh eradicates egotism from within.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਆਇ ॥
गुरमुखि मैलु न लागै आइ ॥
Gurmukʰ mæl na laagæ aa▫é.
No filth sticks to the Gurmukh.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥੨॥
गुरमुखि नामु वसै मनि आइ ॥२॥
Gurmukʰ naam vasæ man aa▫é. ||2||
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, comes to dwell within the mind of the Gurmukh. ||2||
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸਚਿ ਹੋਈ ॥
गुरमुखि करम धरम सचि होई ॥
Gurmukʰ karam ḋʰaram sach ho▫ee.
Through karma and Dharma, good actions and righteous faith, the Gurmukh becomes true.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ਜਲਾਏ ਦੋਈ ॥
गुरमुखि अहंकारु जलाए दोई ॥
Gurmukʰ ahaⁿkaar jalaa▫é ḋo▫ee.
The Gurmukh burns away egotism and duality.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੩॥
गुरमुखि नामि रते सुखु होई ॥३॥
Gurmukʰ naam raṫé sukʰ ho▫ee. ||3||
The Gurmukh is attuned to the Naam, and is at peace. ||3||
|
ਆਪਣਾ ਮਨੁ ਪਰਬੋਧਹੁ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਸੋਈ ॥
आपणा मनु परबोधहु बूझहु सोई ॥
Aapṇaa man parboḋʰahu boojʰhu so▫ee.
Instruct your own mind, and understand Him.
|
ਲੋਕ ਸਮਝਾਵਹੁ ਸੁਣੇ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥
लोक समझावहु सुणे न कोई ॥
Lok samjʰaavhu suṇé na ko▫ee.
You may preach to other people, but no one will listen.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਮਝਹੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥
गुरमुखि समझहु सदा सुखु होई ॥४॥
Gurmukʰ samjʰahu saḋaa sukʰ ho▫ee. ||4||
The Gurmukh understands, and is always at peace. ||4||
|
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਡੰਫੁ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
मनमुखि ड्मफु बहुतु चतुराई ॥
Manmukʰ damf bahuṫ chaṫuraa▫ee.
The self-willed Manmukhs are such clever hypocrites.
|
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਾਈ ॥
जो किछु कमावै सु थाइ न पाई ॥
Jo kichʰ kamaavæ so ṫʰaa▫é na paa▫ee.
No matter what they do, it is not acceptable.
|
ਆਵੈ ਜਾਵੈ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥੫॥
आवै जावै ठउर न काई ॥५॥
Aavæ jaavæ tʰa▫ur na kaa▫ee. ||5||
They come and go in reincarnation, and find no place of rest. ||5||
|
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨਾ ॥
मनमुख करम करे बहुतु अभिमाना ॥
Manmukʰ karam karé bahuṫ abʰimaanaa.
The Manmukhs perform their rituals, but they are totally selfish and conceited.
|
ਬਗ ਜਿਉ ਲਾਇ ਬਹੈ ਨਿਤ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥
बग जिउ लाइ बहै नित धिआना ॥
Bag ji▫o laa▫é bahæ niṫ ḋʰi▫aanaa.
They sit there, like storks, pretending to meditate.
|
ਜਮਿ ਪਕੜਿਆ ਤਬ ਹੀ ਪਛੁਤਾਨਾ ॥੬॥
जमि पकड़िआ तब ही पछुताना ॥६॥
Jam pakṛi▫aa ṫab hee pachʰuṫaanaa. ||6||
Caught by the Messenger of Death, they shall regret and repent in the end. ||6||
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
बिनु सतिगुर सेवे मुकति न होई ॥
Bin saṫgur sévé mukaṫ na ho▫ee.
Without serving the True Guru, liberation is not obtained.
|
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਿਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਈ ॥
गुर परसादी मिलै हरि सोई ॥
Gur parsaadee milæ har so▫ee.
By Guru’s Grace, one meets the Lord.
|
ਗੁਰੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਹੋਈ ॥੭॥
गुरु दाता जुग चारे होई ॥७॥
Gur ḋaaṫaa jug chaaré ho▫ee. ||7||
The Guru is the Great Giver, throughout the four ages. ||7||
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਾਤਿ ਪਤਿ ਨਾਮੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
गुरमुखि जाति पति नामे वडिआई ॥
Gurmukʰ jaaṫ paṫ naamé vadi▫aa▫ee.
For the Gurmukh, the Naam is social status, honor and glorious greatness.

ਸਾਇਰ ਕੀ ਪੁਤ੍ਰੀ ਬਿਦਾਰਿ ਗਵਾਈ ॥
साइर की पुत्री बिदारि गवाई ॥
Saa▫ir kee puṫree biḋaar gavaa▫ee.
Maya, the daughter of the ocean, has been slain.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਝੂਠੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥੮॥੨॥
नानक बिनु नावै झूठी चतुराई ॥८॥२॥
Naanak bin naavæ jʰootʰee chaṫuraa▫ee. ||8||2||
O Nanak! Without the Name, all clever tricks are false. ||8||2||

ਗਉੜੀ ਮਃ ੩ ॥
गउड़ी मः ३ ॥
Ga▫oṛee mėhlaa 3.
Gauree, Third Mehl:

ਇਸੁ ਜੁਗ ਕਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਪੜਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਭਾਈ ॥
इसु जुग का धरमु पड़हु तुम भाई ॥
Is jug kaa ḋʰaram paṛahu ṫum bʰaa▫ee.
Learn the Dharma of this age, O Siblings of Destiny;

ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਭ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
पूरै गुरि सभ सोझी पाई ॥
Pooræ gur sabʰ sojʰee paa▫ee.
all understanding is obtained from the Perfect Guru.
|
ਐਥੈ ਅਗੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੧॥
ऐथै अगै हरि नामु सखाई ॥१॥
Æṫʰæ agæ har naam sakʰaa▫ee. ||1||
Here and hereafter, the Lord’s Name is our Companion. ||1||
|
ਰਾਮ ਪੜਹੁ ਮਨਿ ਕਰਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
राम पड़हु मनि करहु बीचारु ॥
Raam paṛahu man karahu beechaar.
Learn of the Lord, and contemplate Him in your mind.
|
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੈਲੁ ਉਤਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
गुर परसादी मैलु उतारु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Gur parsaadee mæl uṫaar. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
By Guru’s Grace, your filth shall be washed away. ||1||Pause||
|
ਵਾਦਿ ਵਿਰੋਧਿ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
वादि विरोधि न पाइआ जाइ ॥
vaaḋ viroḋʰ na paa▫i▫aa jaa▫é.
Through argument and debate, He cannot be found.
|
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਫੀਕਾ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
मनु तनु फीका दूजै भाइ ॥
Man ṫan feekaa ḋoojæ bʰaa▫é.
The mind and body are made insipid through the love of duality.
|
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੨॥
गुर कै सबदि सचि लिव लाइ ॥२॥
Gur kæ sabaḋ sach liv laa▫é. ||2||
Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, lovingly attune yourself to the True Lord. ||2||
|
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੈਲਾ ਇਹੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
हउमै मैला इहु संसारा ॥
Ha▫umæ mælaa ih sansaaraa.
This world is polluted with egotism.
|
ਨਿਤ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਅਹੰਕਾਰਾ ॥
नित तीरथि नावै न जाइ अहंकारा ॥
Niṫ ṫiraṫʰ naavæ na jaa▫é ahaⁿkaaraa.
By taking cleansing baths daily at sacred shrines of pilgrimage, egotism is not eliminated.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਜਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰਾ ॥੩॥
बिनु गुर भेटे जमु करे खुआरा ॥३॥
Bin gur bʰété jam karé kʰu▫aaraa. ||3||
Without meeting the Guru, they are tortured by Death. ||3||
|
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਜਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੈ ॥
सो जनु साचा जि हउमै मारै ॥
So jan saachaa jė ha▫umæ maaræ.
Those humble beings are true, who conquer their ego.
|
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪੰਚ ਸੰਘਾਰੈ ॥
गुर कै सबदि पंच संघारै ॥
Gur kæ sabaḋ panch sangʰaaræ.
Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, they conquer the five thieves.
|
ਆਪਿ ਤਰੈ ਸਗਲੇ ਕੁਲ ਤਾਰੈ ॥੪॥
आपि तरै सगले कुल तारै ॥४॥
Aap ṫaræ saglé kul ṫaaræ. ||4||
They save themselves, and save all their generations as well. ||4||
|
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਨਟਿ ਬਾਜੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
माइआ मोहि नटि बाजी पाई ॥
Maa▫i▫aa mohi nat baajee paa▫ee.
The Actor has staged the drama of emotional attachment to Maya.
|
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧ ਰਹੇ ਲਪਟਾਈ ॥
मनमुख अंध रहे लपटाई ॥
Manmukʰ anḋʰ rahé laptaa▫ee.
The self-willed Manmukhs cling blindly to it.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅਲਿਪਤ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ॥੫॥
गुरमुखि अलिपत रहे लिव लाई ॥५॥
Gurmukʰ alipaṫ rahé liv laa▫ee. ||5||
The Gurmukhs remain detached, and lovingly attune themselves to the Lord. ||5||
|
ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰੈ ਭੇਖਧਾਰੀ ॥
बहुते भेख करै भेखधारी ॥
Bahuṫé bʰékʰ karæ bʰékʰ▫ḋʰaaree.
The disguisers put on their various disguises.
|
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥
अंतरि तिसना फिरै अहंकारी ॥
Anṫar ṫisnaa firæ ahaⁿkaaree.
Desire rages within them, and they carry on egotistically.
|
ਆਪੁ ਨ ਚੀਨੈ ਬਾਜੀ ਹਾਰੀ ॥੬॥
आपु न चीनै बाजी हारी ॥६॥
Aap na cheenæ baajee haaree. ||6||
They do not understand themselves, and they lose the game of life. ||6||
|
ਕਾਪੜ ਪਹਿਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
कापड़ पहिरि करे चतुराई ॥
Kaapaṛ pahir karé chaṫuraa▫ee.
Putting on religious robes, they act so clever,
|
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਅਤਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਈ ॥
माइआ मोहि अति भरमि भुलाई ॥
Maa▫i▫aa mohi aṫ bʰaram bʰulaa▫ee.
but they are totally deluded by doubt and emotional attachment to Maya.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵੇ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੭॥
बिनु गुर सेवे बहुतु दुखु पाई ॥७॥
Bin gur sévé bahuṫ ḋukʰ paa▫ee. ||7||
Without serving the Guru, they suffer in terrible pain. ||7||
|
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥
नामि रते सदा बैरागी ॥
Naam raṫé saḋaa bæraagee.
Those who are attuned to the Naam, the Name of the Lord, remain detached forever.
|
ਗ੍ਰਿਹੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਾਚਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
ग्रिही अंतरि साचि लिव लागी ॥
Garihee anṫar saach liv laagee.
Even as householders, they lovingly attune themselves to the True Lord.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥੮॥੩॥
नानक सतिगुरु सेवहि से वडभागी ॥८॥३॥
Naanak saṫgur sévėh sé vadbʰaagee. ||8||3||
O Nanak! Those who serve the True Guru are blessed and very fortunate. ||8||3||

ਗਉੜੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
गउड़ी महला ३ ॥
Ga▫oṛee mėhlaa 3.
Gauree, Third Mehl:

ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਮੂਲੁ ਵੇਦ ਅਭਿਆਸਾ ॥
ब्रहमा मूलु वेद अभिआसा ॥
Barahmaa mool véḋ abʰi▫aasaa.
Brahma is the founder of the study of the Vedas.
|
ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਉਪਜੇ ਦੇਵ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥
तिस ते उपजे देव मोह पिआसा ॥
Ṫis ṫé upjé ḋév moh pi▫aasaa.
From him emanated the gods, enticed by desire.
|
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਭਰਮੇ ਨਾਹੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ॥੧॥
त्रै गुण भरमे नाही निज घरि वासा ॥१॥
Ṫaræ guṇ bʰarmé naahee nij gʰar vaasaa. ||1||
They wander in the three qualities, and they do not dwell within their own home. ||1||
|
ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥
हम हरि राखे सतिगुरू मिलाइआ ॥
Ham har raakʰé saṫguroo milaa▫i▫aa.
The Lord has saved me; I have met the True Guru.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
अनदिनु भगति हरि नामु द्रिड़ाइआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
An▫ḋin bʰagaṫ har naam driṛ▫aa▫i▫aa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
He has implanted devotional worship of the Lord’s Name, night and day. ||1||Pause||
|
ਤ੍ਰੈ ਗੁਣ ਬਾਣੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਜੰਜਾਲਾ ॥
त्रै गुण बाणी ब्रहम जंजाला ॥
Ṫaræ guṇ baṇee barahm janjaalaa.
The songs of Brahma entangle people in the three qualities.

ਪੜਿ ਵਾਦੁ ਵਖਾਣਹਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਮਾਰੇ ਜਮਕਾਲਾ ॥
पड़ि वादु वखाणहि सिरि मारे जमकाला ॥
Paṛ vaaḋ vakaaṇėh sir maaré jamkaalaa.
Reading about the debates and disputes, they are hit over the head by the Messenger of Death.
