O Nanak! The Gurmukh is blessed with the Naam. ||4||4||56||

Aasaa mėhlaa 4.
Aasaa, Fourth Mehl:

ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਗੁਣ ਬੋਲੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
गुण गावा गुण बोली बाणी ॥
Guṇ gaavaa guṇ bolee baṇee.
I sing His Glorious Praises, and through the Word of His Bani, I speak His Glorious Praises.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥੧॥
गुरमुखि हरि गुण आखि वखाणी ॥१॥
Gurmukʰ har guṇ aakʰ vakʰaaṇee. ||1||
As Gurmukh, I chant and recite the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1||
|
ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਭਇਆ ਅਨੰਦਾ ॥
जपि जपि नामु मनि भइआ अनंदा ॥
Jap jap naam man bʰa▫i▫aa ananḋaa.
Chanting and meditating on the Naam, my mind becomes blissful.

ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ਰਸਿ ਗਾਏ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
सति सति सतिगुरि नामु दिड़ाइआ रसि गाए गुण परमानंदा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Saṫ saṫ saṫgur naam ḋiṛaa▫i▫aa ras gaa▫é guṇ parmaananḋaa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
The True Guru has implanted the True Name of the True Lord within me; I sing His Glorious Praises, and taste the supreme ecstasy. ||1||Pause||
|
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਲੋਗਾ ॥
हरि गुण गावै हरि जन लोगा ॥
Har guṇ gaavæ har jan logaa.
The humble servants of the Lord sing the Lord’s Glorious Praises.

ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਪਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਜੋਗਾ ॥੨॥
वडै भागि पाए हरि निरजोगा ॥२॥
vadæ bʰaag paa▫é har nirjogaa. ||2||
By great good fortune, the detached, absolute Lord is obtained. ||2||
|
ਗੁਣ ਵਿਹੂਣ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਲੁ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
गुण विहूण माइआ मलु धारी ॥
Guṇ vihooṇ maa▫i▫aa mal ḋʰaaree.
Those without virtue are stained by Maya’s filth.
|
ਵਿਣੁ ਗੁਣ ਜਨਮਿ ਮੁਏ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
विणु गुण जनमि मुए अहंकारी ॥३॥
viṇ guṇ janam mu▫é ahaⁿkaaree. ||3||
Lacking virtue, the egotistical die, and suffer reincarnation. ||3||
|
ਸਰੀਰਿ ਸਰੋਵਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਗਟਿ ਕੀਏ ॥
सरीरि सरोवरि गुण परगटि कीए ॥
Sareer sarovar guṇ pargat kee▫é.
The ocean of the body yields pearls of virtue.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਥਿ ਤਤੁ ਕਢੀਏ ॥੪॥੫॥੫੭॥
नानक गुरमुखि मथि ततु कढीए ॥४॥५॥५७॥
Naanak gurmukʰ maṫʰ ṫaṫ kadʰee▫é. ||4||5||57||
O Nanak! The Gurmukh churns this ocean, and discovers this essence. ||4||5||57||

Aasaa, Fourth Mehl:

ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਣੀ ਨਾਮੋ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
नामु सुणी नामो मनि भावै ॥
Naam suṇee naamo man bʰaavæ.
I listen to the Naam, the Name of the Lord; the Naam is pleasing to my mind.
|
ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
वडै भागि गुरमुखि हरि पावै ॥१॥
vadæ bʰaag gurmukʰ har paavæ. ||1||
By great good fortune, the Gurmukh obtains the Lord. ||1||
|
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ॥
नामु जपहु गुरमुखि परगासा ॥
Naam japahu gurmukʰ pargaasaa.
Chant the Naam, as Gurmukh, and be exalted.

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਮੈ ਧਰ ਨਹੀ ਕਾਈ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਵਿਆ ਸਭ ਸਾਸ ਗਿਰਾਸਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
नाम बिना मै धर नही काई नामु रविआ सभ सास गिरासा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Naam binaa mæ ḋʰar nahee kaa▫ee naam ravi▫aa sabʰ saas giraasaa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Without the Naam, I have no other support; the Naam is woven into all my breaths and morsels of food. ||1||Pause||
|
ਨਾਮੈ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸੁਨੀ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਈ ॥
नामै सुरति सुनी मनि भाई ॥
Naamæ suraṫ sunee man bʰaa▫ee.
The Naam illuminates my mind; listening to it, my mind is pleased.
|
ਜੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਨਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੨॥
जो नामु सुनावै सो मेरा मीतु सखाई ॥२॥
Jo naam sunaavæ so méraa meeṫ sakʰaa▫ee. ||2||
One who narrates the Naam - he alone is my friend and companion. ||2||
|
ਨਾਮਹੀਣ ਗਏ ਮੂੜ ਨੰਗਾ ॥
नामहीण गए मूड़ नंगा ॥
Naamheeṇ ga▫é mooṛ nangaa.
Without the Naam, the fools depart naked.
|
ਪਚਿ ਪਚਿ ਮੁਏ ਬਿਖੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਪਤੰਗਾ ॥੩॥
पचि पचि मुए बिखु देखि पतंगा ॥३॥
Pach pach mu▫é bikʰ ḋékʰ paṫangaa. ||3||
They burn away to death, chasing the poison of Maya, like the moth chasing the flame. ||3||
|
ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ॥
आपे थापे थापि उथापे ॥
Aapé ṫʰaapé ṫʰaap uṫʰaapé.
He Himself establishes, and, having established, disestablishes.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ॥੪॥੬॥੫੮॥
नानक नामु देवै हरि आपे ॥४॥६॥५८॥
Naanak naam ḋévæ har aapé. ||4||6||58||
O Nanak! The Lord Himself bestows the Naam. ||4||6||58||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਵੇਲਿ ਵਧਾਈ ॥
गुरमुखि हरि हरि वेलि वधाई ॥
Gurmukʰ har har vél vaḋʰaa▫ee.
The vine of the Lord’s Name, Har, Har, has taken root in the Gurmukh.
|
ਫਲ ਲਾਗੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਕ ਰਸਾਈ ॥੧॥
फल लागे हरि रसक रसाई ॥१॥
Fal laagé har rasak rasaa▫ee. ||1||
It bears the fruit of the Lord; its taste is so tasty! ||1||
|
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਿ ਅਨਤ ਤਰੰਗਾ ॥
हरि हरि नामु जपि अनत तरंगा ॥
Har har naam jap anaṫ ṫarangaa.
Chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, in endless waves of joy.

ਜਪਿ ਜਪਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਕਾਲੁ ਜਮਕੰਕਰ ਭੁਇਅੰਗਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
जपि जपि नामु गुरमति सालाही मारिआ कालु जमकंकर भुइअंगा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Jap jap naam gurmaṫ saalaahee maari▫aa kaal jamkankar bʰu▫i▫angaa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Chant and repeat the Naam; through the Guru’s Teachings praise the Lord, and slay the horrible serpent of the Messenger of Death. ||1||Pause||
|
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਮਹਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਖਾਈ ॥
हरि हरि गुर महि भगति रखाई ॥
Har har gur mėh bʰagaṫ rakʰaa▫ee.
The Lord has implanted His devotional worship in the Guru.

ਗੁਰੁ ਤੁਠਾ ਸਿਖ ਦੇਵੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥੨॥
गुरु तुठा सिख देवै मेरे भाई ॥२॥
Gur ṫutʰaa sikʰ ḋévæ méré bʰaa▫ee. ||2||
When the Guru is pleased, He bestows it upon His Sikh, O my siblings of Destiny. ||2||
|
ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਿਛੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
हउमै करम किछु बिधि नही जाणै ॥
Ha▫umæ karam kichʰ biḋʰ nahee jaaṇæ.
One who acts in ego, knows nothing about the Way.
|
ਜਿਉ ਕੁੰਚਰੁ ਨਾਇ ਖਾਕੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਛਾਣੈ ॥੩॥
जिउ कुंचरु नाइ खाकु सिरि छाणै ॥३॥
Ji▫o kunchar naa▫é kʰaak sir chʰaaṇæ. ||3||
He acts like an elephant, who takes a bath, and then throws dust on his head. ||3||
|
ਜੇ ਵਡ ਭਾਗ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਵਡ ਊਚੇ ॥
जे वड भाग होवहि वड ऊचे ॥
Jé vad bʰaag hovėh vad ooché.
If one’s destiny is great and exalted,
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹਿ ਸਚਿ ਸੂਚੇ ॥੪॥੭॥੫੯॥
नानक नामु जपहि सचि सूचे ॥४॥७॥५९॥
Naanak naam jaapėh sach sooché. ||4||7||59||
O Nanak! One chants the Naam, the Name of the Immaculate, True Lord. ||4||7||59||

My mind suffers hunger for the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਨਿਐ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥
नामि सुनिऐ मनु त्रिपतै मेरे भाई ॥१॥
Naam suni▫æ man ṫaripṫæ méré bʰaa▫ee. ||1||
Hearing the Naam, my mind is satisfied, O my Siblings of Destiny. ||1||
|
ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਗੁਰਸਿਖ ਮੀਤਾ ॥
नामु जपहु मेरे गुरसिख मीता ॥
Naam japahu méré gursikʰ meeṫaa.
Chant the Naam, O my friends, O GurSikhs.

ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖਹੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਚੀਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
नामु जपहु नामे सुखु पावहु नामु रखहु गुरमति मनि चीता ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Naam japahu naamé sukʰ paavhu naam rakʰahu gurmaṫ man cheeṫaa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Chant the Naam, and through the Naam, obtain peace; through the Guru’s Teachings, enshrine the Naam in your heart and mind. ||1||Pause||
|
ਨਾਮੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਣੀ ਮਨੁ ਸਰਸਾ ॥
नामो नामु सुणी मनु सरसा ॥
Naamo naam suṇee man sarsaa.
Hearing the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the mind is in bliss.
|
ਨਾਮੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਲੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਬਿਗਸਾ ॥੨॥
नामु लाहा लै गुरमति बिगसा ॥२॥
Naam laahaa læ gurmaṫ bigsaa. ||2||
Reaping the profit of the Naam, through the Guru’s Teachings, my soul has blossomed forth. ||2||
|
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੁਸਟੀ ਮੋਹ ਅੰਧਾ ॥
नाम बिना कुसटी मोह अंधा ॥
Naam binaa kustee moh anḋʰaa.
Without the Naam, the mortal is a leper, blinded by emotional attachment.

ਸਭ ਨਿਹਫਲ ਕਰਮ ਕੀਏ ਦੁਖੁ ਧੰਧਾ ॥੩॥
सभ निहफल करम कीए दुखु धंधा ॥३॥
Sabʰ nihfal karam kee▫é ḋukʰ ḋʰanḋʰaa. ||3||
All his actions are fruitless; they lead only to painful entanglements. ||3||
|
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਜਪੈ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ॥
हरि हरि हरि जसु जपै वडभागी ॥
Har har har jas japæ vadbʰaagee.
The very fortunate ones chant the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har, Har.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥੪॥੮॥੬੦॥
नानक गुरमति नामि लिव लागी ॥४॥८॥६०॥
Naanak gurmaṫ naam liv laagee. ||4||8||60||
O Nanak! Through the Guru’s Teachings, one embraces love for the Naam. ||4||8||60||
