ਪਰਦੇਸੁ ਝਾਗਿ ਸਉਦੇ ਕਉ ਆਇਆ ॥
परदेसु झागि सउदे कउ आइआ ॥
Parḋés jʰaag sa▫uḋé ka▫o aa▫i▫aa.
Having wandered through foreign lands, I have come here to do business.

ਵਸਤੁ ਅਨੂਪ ਸੁਣੀ ਲਾਭਾਇਆ ॥
वसतु अनूप सुणी लाभाइआ ॥
vasaṫ anoop suṇee laabʰaa▫i▫aa.
I heard of the incomparable and profitable merchandise.
|
ਗੁਣ ਰਾਸਿ ਬੰਨੑਿ ਪਲੈ ਆਨੀ ॥
गुण रासि बंन्हि पलै आनी ॥
Guṇ raas banėh palæ aanee.
I have gathered in my pockets my capital of virtue, and I have brought it here with me.

ਦੇਖਿ ਰਤਨੁ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਲਪਟਾਨੀ ॥੧॥
देखि रतनु इहु मनु लपटानी ॥१॥
Ḋékʰ raṫan ih man laptaanee. ||1||
Beholding the jewel, this mind is fascinated. ||1||
|
ਸਾਹ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਦੁਆਰੈ ਆਏ ॥
साह वापारी दुआरै आए ॥
Saah vaapaaree ḋu▫aaræ aa▫é.
I have come to the door of the Trader.
|
ਵਖਰੁ ਕਾਢਹੁ ਸਉਦਾ ਕਰਾਏ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
वखरु काढहु सउदा कराए ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
vakʰar kaadʰahu sa▫uḋaa karaa▫é. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Please display the merchandise, so that the business may be transacted. ||1||Pause||
|
ਸਾਹਿ ਪਠਾਇਆ ਸਾਹੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
साहि पठाइआ साहै पासि ॥
Saahi patʰaa▫i▫aa saahæ paas.
The Trader has sent me to the Banker.
|
ਅਮੋਲ ਰਤਨ ਅਮੋਲਾ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
अमोल रतन अमोला रासि ॥
Amol raṫan amolaa raas.
The jewel is priceless, and the capital is priceless.
|
ਵਿਸਟੁ ਸੁਭਾਈ ਪਾਇਆ ਮੀਤ ॥
विसटु सुभाई पाइआ मीत ॥
visat subʰaa▫ee paa▫i▫aa meeṫ.
O my gentle brother, mediator and friend -
|
ਸਉਦਾ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਨਿਹਚਲ ਚੀਤ ॥੨॥
सउदा मिलिआ निहचल चीत ॥२॥
Sa▫uḋaa mili▫aa nihchal cheeṫ. ||2||
I have obtained the merchandise, and my consciousness is now steady and stable. ||2||
|
ਭਉ ਨਹੀ ਤਸਕਰ ਪਉਣ ਨ ਪਾਨੀ ॥
भउ नही तसकर पउण न पानी ॥
Bʰa▫o nahee ṫaskar pa▫uṇ na paanee.
I have no fear of thieves, of wind or water.
|
ਸਹਜਿ ਵਿਹਾਝੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਨੀ ॥
सहजि विहाझी सहजि लै जानी ॥
Sahj vihaajee sahj læ jaanee.
I have easily made my purchase, and I easily take it away.
|
ਸਤ ਕੈ ਖਟਿਐ ਦੁਖੁ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
सत कै खटिऐ दुखु नही पाइआ ॥
Saṫ kæ kʰati▫æ ḋukʰ nahee paa▫i▫aa.
I have earned Truth, and I shall have no pain.

ਸਹੀ ਸਲਾਮਤਿ ਘਰਿ ਲੈ ਆਇਆ ॥੩॥
सही सलामति घरि लै आइआ ॥३॥
Sahee salaamaṫ gʰar læ aa▫i▫aa. ||3||
I have brought this merchandise home, safe and sound. ||3||
|
ਮਿਲਿਆ ਲਾਹਾ ਭਏ ਅਨੰਦ ॥
मिलिआ लाहा भए अनंद ॥
Mili▫aa laahaa bʰa▫é anand.
I have earned the profit, and I am happy.
|
ਧੰਨੁ ਸਾਹ ਪੂਰੇ ਬਖਸਿੰਦ ॥
धंनु साह पूरे बखसिंद ॥
Ḋʰan saah pooré bakʰsinḋ.
Blessed is the Banker, the Perfect Bestower.
|
ਇਹੁ ਸਉਦਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਿਨੈ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
इहु सउदा गुरमुखि किनै विरलै पाइआ ॥
Ih sa▫uḋaa gurmukʰ kinæ virlæ paa▫i▫aa.
How rare is the Gurmukh who obtains this merchandise;

ਸਹਲੀ ਖੇਪ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਲੈ ਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੬॥
सहली खेप नानकु लै आइआ ॥४॥६॥
Sahlee kʰép Naanak læ aa▫i▫aa. ||4||6||
Nanak has brought this profitable merchandise home. ||4||6||

Aasaa mėhlaa 5.
Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਗੁਨੁ ਅਵਗਨੁ ਮੇਰੋ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਬੀਚਾਰੋ ॥
गुनु अवगनु मेरो कछु न बीचारो ॥
Gun avgan méro kachʰ na beechaaro.
He does not consider my merits or demerits.
|
ਨਹ ਦੇਖਿਓ ਰੂਪ ਰੰਗ ਸੀਗਾਰੋ ॥
नह देखिओ रूप रंग सींगारो ॥
Nah ḋékʰi▫o roop rang seeⁿgaaro.
He does not look at my beauty, color or decorations.

ਚਜ ਅਚਾਰ ਕਿਛੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੀ ॥
चज अचार किछु बिधि नही जानी ॥
Chaj achaar kichʰ biḋʰ nahee jaanee.
I do not know the ways of wisdom and good conduct.

ਬਾਹ ਪਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਸੇਜੈ ਆਨੀ ॥੧॥
बाह पकरि प्रिअ सेजै आनी ॥१॥
Baah pakar pari▫a séjæ aanee. ||1||
But taking me by the arm, my Husband Lord has led me to His Bed. ||1||
|
ਸੁਨਿਬੋ ਸਖੀ ਕੰਤਿ ਹਮਾਰੋ ਕੀਅਲੋ ਖਸਮਾਨਾ ॥
सुनिबो सखी कंति हमारो कीअलो खसमाना ॥
Sunibo sakʰee kanṫ hamaaro kee▫alo kʰasmaanaa.
Hear, O my companions, my Husband, my Lord Master, possesses me.
|
ਕਰੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਕਰਿ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਕਿਆ ਜਾਨੈ ਇਹੁ ਲੋਕੁ ਅਜਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
करु मसतकि धारि राखिओ करि अपुना किआ जानै इहु लोकु अजाना ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Kar masṫak ḋʰaar raakʰi▫o kar apunaa ki▫aa jaanæ ih lok ajaanaa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Placing His Hand upon my forehead, He protects me as His Own. What do these ignorant people know? ||1||Pause||

ਸੁਹਾਗੁ ਹਮਾਰੋ ਅਬ ਹੁਣਿ ਸੋਹਿਓ ॥
सुहागु हमारो अब हुणि सोहिओ ॥
Suhaag hamaaro ab huṇ sohi▫o.
My married life now appears so beauteous;
|
ਕੰਤੁ ਮਿਲਿਓ ਮੇਰੋ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਜੋਹਿਓ ॥
कंतु मिलिओ मेरो सभु दुखु जोहिओ ॥
Kanṫ mili▫o méro sabʰ ḋukʰ johi▫o.
my Husband Lord has met me, and He sees all my pains.
|
ਆਂਗਨਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਚੰਦ ॥
आंगनि मेरै सोभा चंद ॥
Aaⁿgan méræ sobʰaa chanḋ.
Within the courtyard of my heart, the glory of the moon shines.
|
ਨਿਸਿ ਬਾਸੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਸੰਗਿ ਅਨੰਦ ॥੨॥
निसि बासुर प्रिअ संगि अनंद ॥२॥
Nis baasur pari▫a sang anand. ||2||
Night and day, I have fun with my Beloved. ||2||
|
ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਚਲੂਲ ॥
बसत्र हमारे रंगि चलूल ॥
Basṫar hamaaré rang chalool.
My clothes are dyed the deep crimson color of the poppy.
|
ਸਗਲ ਆਭਰਣ ਸੋਭਾ ਕੰਠਿ ਫੂਲ ॥
सगल आभरण सोभा कंठि फूल ॥
Sagal aabʰraṇ sobʰaa kantʰ fool.
All the ornaments and garlands around my neck adorn me.

ਪ੍ਰਿਅ ਪੇਖੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਪਾਏ ਸਗਲ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥
प्रिअ पेखी द्रिसटि पाए सगल निधान ॥
Pari▫a pékʰee ḋarisat paa▫é sagal niḋʰaan.
Gazing upon my Beloved with my eyes, I have obtained all treasures;
|
ਦੁਸਟ ਦੂਤ ਕੀ ਚੂਕੀ ਕਾਨਿ ॥੩॥
दुसट दूत की चूकी कानि ॥३॥
Ḋusat ḋooṫ kee chookee kaan. ||3||
I have shaken off the power of the evil demons. ||3||
|
ਸਦ ਖੁਸੀਆ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗ ਮਾਣੇ ॥
सद खुसीआ सदा रंग माणे ॥
Saḋ kʰusee▫aa saḋaa rang maaṇé.
I have obtained eternal bliss, and I constantly celebrate.
|
ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਨੇ ॥
नउ निधि नामु ग्रिह महि त्रिपताने ॥
Na▫o niḋʰ naam garih mėh ṫaripṫaané.
With the nine treasures of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, I am satisfied in my own home.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਉ ਪਿਰਹਿ ਸੀਗਾਰੀ ॥
कहु नानक जउ पिरहि सीगारी ॥
Kaho Naanak ja▫o pirėh seegaaree.
Says Nanak, when the happy soul-bride is adorned by her Beloved,

ਥਿਰੁ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਭਤਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੭॥
थिरु सोहागनि संगि भतारी ॥४॥७॥
Ṫʰir sohaagan sang bʰaṫaaree. ||4||7||
she is forever happy with her Husband Lord. ||4||7||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Aasaa mėhlaa 5.
Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:

ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਇ ਕਰਿ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰਨਾ ॥
दानु देइ करि पूजा करना ॥
Ḋaan ḋé▫é kar poojaa karnaa.
They give you donations and worship you.
|
ਲੈਤ ਦੇਤ ਉਨੑ ਮੂਕਰਿ ਪਰਨਾ ॥
लैत देत उन्ह मूकरि परना ॥
Læṫ ḋéṫ unĥ mookar parnaa.
You take from them, and then deny that they have given anything to you.
|
ਜਿਤੁ ਦਰਿ ਤੁਮੑ ਹੈ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਜਾਣਾ ॥
जितु दरि तुम्ह है ब्राहमण जाणा ॥
Jiṫ ḋar ṫumĥ hæ baraahmaṇ jaaṇaa.
That door, through which you must ultimately go, O Brahmin -
|
ਤਿਤੁ ਦਰਿ ਤੂੰਹੀ ਹੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਣਾ ॥੧॥
तितु दरि तूंही है पछुताणा ॥१॥
Ṫiṫ ḋar ṫooⁿhee hæ pachʰuṫaaṇaa. ||1||
at that door, you will come to regret and repent. ||1||
|
ਐਸੇ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣ ਡੂਬੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
ऐसे ब्राहमण डूबे भाई ॥
Æsé baraahmaṇ doobé bʰaa▫ee.
Such Brahmins shall drown, O Siblings of Destiny;
|
ਨਿਰਾਪਰਾਧ ਚਿਤਵਹਿ ਬੁਰਿਆਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
निरापराध चितवहि बुरिआई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Niraapraaḋʰ chiṫvahi buri▫aa▫ee. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
they think of doing evil to the innocent. ||1||Pause||
|
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਫਿਰਹਿ ਹਲਕਾਏ ॥
अंतरि लोभु फिरहि हलकाए ॥
Anṫar lobʰ firėh halkaa▫é.
Within them is greed, and they wander around like mad dogs.
|
ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਭਾਰੁ ਉਠਾਏ ॥
निंदा करहि सिरि भारु उठाए ॥
Ninḋaa karahi sir bʰaar utʰaa▫é.
They slander others and carry loads of sin upon their heads.
|
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੂਠਾ ਚੇਤੈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
माइआ मूठा चेतै नाही ॥
Maa▫i▫aa mootʰaa chéṫæ naahee.
Intoxicated by Maya, they do not think of the Lord.
|
ਭਰਮੇ ਭੂਲਾ ਬਹੁਤੀ ਰਾਹੀ ॥੨॥
भरमे भूला बहुती राही ॥२॥
Bʰarmé bʰoolaa bahuṫee raahee. ||2||
Deluded by doubt, they wander off on many paths. ||2||
|
ਬਾਹਰਿ ਭੇਖ ਕਰਹਿ ਘਨੇਰੇ ॥
बाहरि भेख करहि घनेरे ॥
Baahar bʰékʰ karahi gʰanéré.
Outwardly, they wear various religious robes,
|
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਉਤਰੀ ਘੇਰੇ ॥
अंतरि बिखिआ उतरी घेरे ॥
Anṫar bikʰi▫aa uṫree gʰéré.
but within, they are enveloped by poison.
|
ਅਵਰ ਉਪਦੇਸੈ ਆਪਿ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ॥
अवर उपदेसै आपि न बूझै ॥
Avar upḋésæ aap na boojʰæ.
They instruct others, but do not understand themselves.
|
ਐਸਾ ਬ੍ਰਾਹਮਣੁ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਸੀਝੈ ॥੩॥
ऐसा ब्राहमणु कही न सीझै ॥३॥
Æsaa baraahmaṇ kahee na seejʰæ. ||3||
Such Brahmins will never be emancipated. ||3||
|
ਮੂਰਖ ਬਾਮਣ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥
मूरख बामण प्रभू समालि ॥
Moorakʰ baamaṇ parabʰoo samaal.
O foolish Brahmin, reflect upon God.
|
ਦੇਖਤ ਸੁਨਤ ਤੇਰੈ ਹੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
देखत सुनत तेरै है नालि ॥
Ḋékʰaṫ sunaṫ ṫéræ hæ naal.
He watches and hears, and is always with you.
|
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੇ ਹੋਵੀ ਭਾਗੁ ॥
कहु नानक जे होवी भागु ॥
Kaho Naanak jé hovee bʰaag.
Says Nanak, if this is your destiny,
|
ਮਾਨੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਾਗੁ ॥੪॥੮॥
मानु छोडि गुर चरणी लागु ॥४॥८॥
Maan chʰod gur charṇee laag. ||4||8||
renounce your pride, and grasp the Guru’s Feet. ||4||8||

ਦੂਖ ਰੋਗ ਭਏ ਗਤੁ ਤਨ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥
दूख रोग भए गतु तन ते मनु निरमलु हरि हरि गुण गाइ ॥
Ḋookʰ rog bʰa▫é gaṫ ṫan ṫé man nirmal har har guṇ gaa▫é.
Pain and disease have left my body, and my mind has become pure; I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, Har, Har.
