ਸਭ ਕਉ ਤਜਿ ਗਏ ਹਾਂ ॥
सभ कउ तजि गए हां ॥
Sabʰ ka▫o ṫaj ga▫é haaⁿ.
you shall have to leave it all behind.

ਸੁਪਨਾ ਜਿਉ ਭਏ ਹਾਂ ॥
सुपना जिउ भए हां ॥
Supnaa ji▫o bʰa▫é haaⁿ.
These things seem like only a dream,
|
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਿਨੑਿ ਲਏ ॥੧॥
हरि नामु जिन्हि लए ॥१॥
Har naam jiniĥ la▫é. ||1||
to one who takes the Lord’s Name. ||1||
|
ਹਰਿ ਤਜਿ ਅਨ ਲਗੇ ਹਾਂ ॥
हरि तजि अन लगे हां ॥
Har ṫaj an lagé haaⁿ.
Forsaking the Lord, and clinging to another,
|
ਜਨਮਹਿ ਮਰਿ ਭਗੇ ਹਾਂ ॥
जनमहि मरि भगे हां ॥
Janmėh mar bʰagé haaⁿ.
they run toward death and reincarnation.
|
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਨਿ ਲਹੇ ਹਾਂ ॥
हरि हरि जनि लहे हां ॥
Har har jan lahé haaⁿ.
But those humble beings, who attach themselves to the Lord, Har, Har,
|
ਜੀਵਤ ਸੇ ਰਹੇ ਹਾਂ ॥
जीवत से रहे हां ॥
Jeevaṫ sé rahé haaⁿ.
continue to live.
|
ਜਿਸਹਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਹੋਇ ਹਾਂ ॥
जिसहि क्रिपालु होइ हां ॥
Jisahi kirpaal ho▫é haaⁿ.
One who is blessed with the Lord’s Mercy,
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਗਤੁ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥੭॥੧੬੩॥੨੩੨॥
नानक भगतु सोइ ॥२॥७॥१६३॥२३२॥
Naanak bʰagaṫ so▫é. ||2||7||163||232||
O Nanak! Becomes His devotee. ||2||7||163||232||

ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕਹਉ ਕਉਨ ਸਿਉ ਮਨ ਕੀ ॥
बिरथा कहउ कउन सिउ मन की ॥
Birṫʰaa kaha▫o ka▫un si▫o man kee.
Who should I tell the condition of the mind?

ਲੋਭਿ ਗ੍ਰਸਿਓ ਦਸ ਹੂ ਦਿਸ ਧਾਵਤ ਆਸਾ ਲਾਗਿਓ ਧਨ ਕੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
लोभि ग्रसिओ दस हू दिस धावत आसा लागिओ धन की ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Lobʰ garsi▫o ḋas hoo ḋis ḋʰaavaṫ aasaa laagi▫o ḋʰan kee. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Engrossed in greed, running around in the ten directions, you hold to your hopes of wealth. ||1||Pause||
|
ਸੁਖ ਕੈ ਹੇਤਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਤ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਤ ਜਨ ਜਨ ਕੀ ॥
सुख कै हेति बहुतु दुखु पावत सेव करत जन जन की ॥
Sukʰ kæ héṫ bahuṫ ḋukʰ paavaṫ sév karaṫ jan jan kee.
For the sake of pleasure, you suffer such great pain, and you have to serve each and every person.

ਦੁਆਰਹਿ ਦੁਆਰਿ ਸੁਆਨ ਜਿਉ ਡੋਲਤ ਨਹ ਸੁਧ ਰਾਮ ਭਜਨ ਕੀ ॥੧॥
दुआरहि दुआरि सुआन जिउ डोलत नह सुध राम भजन की ॥१॥
Ḋu▫aarėh ḋu▫aar su▫aan ji▫o dolaṫ nah suḋʰ raam bʰajan kee. ||1||
You wander from door to door like a dog, unconscious of the Lord’s meditation. ||1||
|
ਮਾਨਸ ਜਨਮ ਅਕਾਰਥ ਖੋਵਤ ਲਾਜ ਨ ਲੋਕ ਹਸਨ ਕੀ ॥
मानस जनम अकारथ खोवत लाज न लोक हसन की ॥
Maanas janam akaaraṫʰ kʰovaṫ laaj na lok hasan kee.
You lose this human life in vain, and You are not even ashamed when others laugh at you.

ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਿਉ ਨਹੀ ਗਾਵਤ ਕੁਮਤਿ ਬਿਨਾਸੈ ਤਨ ਕੀ ॥੨॥੧॥੨੩੩॥
नानक हरि जसु किउ नही गावत कुमति बिनासै तन की ॥२॥१॥२३३॥
Naanak har jas ki▫o nahee gaavaṫ kumaṫ binaasæ ṫan kee. ||2||1||233||
O Nanak! Why not sing the Lord’s Praises, so that you may be rid of the body’s evil disposition? ||2||1||233||

ਉਤਰਿ ਅਵਘਟਿ ਸਰਵਰਿ ਨੑਾਵੈ ॥
उतरि अवघटि सरवरि न्हावै ॥
Uṫar avgʰat sarvar nĥaavæ.
He descends the treacherous precipice, to bathe in the cleansing pool;
|
ਬਕੈ ਨ ਬੋਲੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
बकै न बोलै हरि गुण गावै ॥
Bakæ na bolæ har guṇ gaavæ.
without speaking or saying anything, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
|
ਜਲੁ ਆਕਾਸੀ ਸੁੰਨਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
जलु आकासी सुंनि समावै ॥
Jal aakaasee sunn samaavæ.
Like water vapor in the sky, he remains absorbed in the Lord.
|
ਰਸੁ ਸਤੁ ਝੋਲਿ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧॥
रसु सतु झोलि महा रसु पावै ॥१॥
Ras saṫ jʰol mahaa ras paavæ. ||1||
He churns the true pleasures to obtain the supreme nectar. ||1||
|
ਐਸਾ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਅਭ ਮੋਰੇ ॥
ऐसा गिआनु सुनहु अभ मोरे ॥
Æsaa gi▫aan sunhu abʰ moré.
Listen to such spiritual wisdom, O my mind.

ਭਰਿਪੁਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਭ ਠਉਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
भरिपुरि धारि रहिआ सभ ठउरे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Bʰaripur ḋʰaar rahi▫aa sabʰ tʰa▫uré. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
The Lord is totally pervading and permeating all places. ||1||Pause||
|
ਸਚੁ ਬ੍ਰਤੁ ਨੇਮੁ ਨ ਕਾਲੁ ਸੰਤਾਵੈ ॥
सचु ब्रतु नेमु न कालु संतावै ॥
Sach baraṫ ném na kaal sanṫaavæ.
One who makes Truthfulness his fast and religious vows, does not suffer the pain of death.
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਕਰੋਧੁ ਜਲਾਵੈ ॥
सतिगुर सबदि करोधु जलावै ॥
Saṫgur sabaḋ karoḋʰ jalaavæ.
Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, he burns away his anger.
|
ਗਗਨਿ ਨਿਵਾਸਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਲਗਾਵੈ ॥
गगनि निवासि समाधि लगावै ॥
Gagan nivaas samaaḋʰ lagaavæ.
He dwells in the Tenth Gate, immersed in the Samadhi of deep meditation.
|
ਪਾਰਸੁ ਪਰਸਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੨॥
पारसु परसि परम पदु पावै ॥२॥
Paaras paras param paḋ paavæ. ||2||
Touching the philosopher’s stone, he obtains the supreme-status. ||2||
|
ਸਚੁ ਮਨ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਤਤੁ ਬਿਲੋਵੈ ॥
सचु मन कारणि ततु बिलोवै ॥
Sach man kaaraṇ ṫaṫ bilovæ.
For the benefit of the mind, churn the true essence of reality;
|
ਸੁਭਰ ਸਰਵਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਧੋਵੈ ॥
सुभर सरवरि मैलु न धोवै ॥
Subʰar sarvar mæl na ḋʰovæ.
bathing in the overflowing tank of nectar, filth is washed away.
|
ਜੈ ਸਿਉ ਰਾਤਾ ਤੈਸੋ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
जै सिउ राता तैसो होवै ॥
Jæ si▫o raaṫaa ṫæso hovæ.
We become like the One with whom we are imbued.
|
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਸੁ ਹੋਵੈ ॥੩॥
आपे करता करे सु होवै ॥३॥
Aapé karṫaa karé so hovæ. ||3||
Whatever the Creator does, comes to pass. ||3||
|
ਗੁਰ ਹਿਵ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝਾਵੈ ॥
गुर हिव सीतलु अगनि बुझावै ॥
Gur hiv seeṫal agan bujʰaavæ.
The Guru is cool and soothing like ice; He puts out the fire of the mind.
|
ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਬਿਭੂਤ ਚੜਾਵੈ ॥
सेवा सुरति बिभूत चड़ावै ॥
Sévaa suraṫ bibʰooṫ chaṛaavæ.
Smear your body with the ashes of dedicated service,
|
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਆਪਿ ਸਹਜ ਘਰਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
दरसनु आपि सहज घरि आवै ॥
Ḋarsan aap sahj gʰar aavæ.
and live in the home of peace - make this your religious order.
|
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਦੁ ਵਜਾਵੈ ॥੪॥
निरमल बाणी नादु वजावै ॥४॥
Nirmal baṇee naaḋ vajaavæ. ||4||
Let the Immaculate Bani of the Word be your playing of the flute. ||4||
|
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਸਾਰਾ ॥
अंतरि गिआनु महा रसु सारा ॥
Anṫar gi▫aan mahaa ras saaraa.
Spiritual wisdom within is the supreme, sublime nectar.
|
ਤੀਰਥ ਮਜਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
तीरथ मजनु गुर वीचारा ॥
Ṫiraṫʰ majan gur veechaaraa.
Contemplation of the Guru is one’s bathing at holy places of pilgrimage.
|
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪੂਜਾ ਥਾਨੁ ਮੁਰਾਰਾ ॥
अंतरि पूजा थानु मुरारा ॥
Anṫar poojaa ṫʰaan muraaraa.
Worship and adoration within is the Lord’s dwelling.
|
ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੫॥
जोती जोति मिलावणहारा ॥५॥
Joṫee joṫ milaavaṇhaaraa. ||5||
He is the One who blends one’s light with the Divine Light. ||5||
|
ਰਸਿ ਰਸਿਆ ਮਤਿ ਏਕੈ ਭਾਇ ॥
रसि रसिआ मति एकै भाइ ॥
Ras rasi▫aa maṫ ékæ bʰaa▫é.
He delights in the delightful wisdom of loving the One Lord.
|
ਤਖਤ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਪੰਚ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
तखत निवासी पंच समाइ ॥
Ṫakʰaṫ nivaasee panch samaa▫é.
He is one of the self-elect - he merges with the Lord, who occupies the throne.
|
ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਈ ਖਸਮ ਰਜਾਇ ॥
कार कमाई खसम रजाइ ॥
Kaar kamaa▫ee kʰasam rajaa▫é.
He performs his works in obedience to the Will of his Lord and Master.
|
ਅਵਿਗਤ ਨਾਥੁ ਨ ਲਖਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥੬॥
अविगत नाथु न लखिआ जाइ ॥६॥
Avigaṫ naaṫʰ na lakʰi▫aa jaa▫é. ||6||
The Unknowable Lord cannot be understood. ||6||
|
ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਜਲ ਤੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
जल महि उपजै जल ते दूरि ॥
Jal mėh upjæ jal ṫé ḋoor.
The lotus originates in the water, and yet it remains distinct from the water.
|
ਜਲ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥
जल महि जोति रहिआ भरपूरि ॥
Jal mėh joṫ rahi▫aa bʰarpoor.
Just so, the Divine Light pervades and permeates the water of the world.
|
ਕਿਸੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਾ ਦੂਰਿ ॥
किसु नेड़ै किसु आखा दूरि ॥
Kis néṛæ kis aakʰaa ḋoor.
Who is near, and who is far away?
|
ਨਿਧਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੭॥
निधि गुण गावा देखि हदूरि ॥७॥
Niḋʰ guṇ gaavaa ḋékʰ haḋoor. ||7||
I sing the Glories of the Lord, the treasure of virtue; I behold Him ever-present. ||7||
|
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
अंतरि बाहरि अवरु न कोइ ॥
Anṫar baahar avar na ko▫é.
Inwardly and outwardly, there is none other than Him.
