ਥਾਨ ਮੁਕਾਮ ਜਲੇ ਬਿਜ ਮੰਦਰ ਮੁਛਿ ਮੁਛਿ ਕੁਇਰ ਰੁਲਾਇਆ ॥
थान मुकाम जले बिज मंदर मुछि मुछि कुइर रुलाइआ ॥
Ṫʰaan mukaam jalé bij manḋar muchʰ muchʰ ku▫ir rulaa▫i▫aa.
He burned the rest-houses and the ancient temples; he cut the princes limb from limb, and cast them into the dust.

ਕੋਈ ਮੁਗਲੁ ਨ ਹੋਆ ਅੰਧਾ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਰਚਾ ਲਾਇਆ ॥੪॥
कोई मुगलु न होआ अंधा किनै न परचा लाइआ ॥४॥
Ko▫ee mugal na ho▫aa anḋʰaa kinæ na parchaa laa▫i▫aa. ||4||
None of the Moguls went blind, and no one performed any miracle. ||4||

ਮੁਗਲ ਪਠਾਣਾ ਭਈ ਲੜਾਈ ਰਣ ਮਹਿ ਤੇਗ ਵਗਾਈ ॥
मुगल पठाणा भई लड़ाई रण महि तेग वगाई ॥
Mugal patʰaaṇaa bʰa▫ee laṛaa▫ee raṇ mėh ṫég vagaa▫ee.
The battle raged between the Moguls and the Pathans, and the swords clashed on the battlefield.

ਓਨੑੀ ਤੁਪਕ ਤਾਣਿ ਚਲਾਈ ਓਨੑੀ ਹਸਤਿ ਚਿੜਾਈ ॥
ओन्ही तुपक ताणि चलाई ओन्ही हसति चिड़ाई ॥
Onĥee ṫupak ṫaaṇ chalaa▫ee onĥee hasaṫ chiṛaa▫ee.
They took aim and fired their guns, and they attacked with their elephants.

ਜਿਨੑ ਕੀ ਚੀਰੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਟੀ ਤਿਨੑਾ ਮਰਣਾ ਭਾਈ ॥੫॥
जिन्ह की चीरी दरगह पाटी तिन्हा मरणा भाई ॥५॥
Jinĥ kee cheeree ḋargėh paatee ṫinĥaa marṇaa bʰaa▫ee. ||5||
Those men whose letters were torn in the Lord’s Court, were destined to die, O Siblings of Destiny. ||5||

ਇਕ ਹਿੰਦਵਾਣੀ ਅਵਰ ਤੁਰਕਾਣੀ ਭਟਿਆਣੀ ਠਕੁਰਾਣੀ ॥
इक हिंदवाणी अवर तुरकाणी भटिआणी ठकुराणी ॥
Ik hinḋvaaṇee avar ṫurkaaṇee bʰati▫aaṇee tʰakuraaṇee.
The Hindu women, the Muslim women, the Bhattis and the Rajputs -

ਇਕਨੑਾ ਪੇਰਣ ਸਿਰ ਖੁਰ ਪਾਟੇ ਇਕਨੑਾ ਵਾਸੁ ਮਸਾਣੀ ॥
इकन्हा पेरण सिर खुर पाटे इकन्हा वासु मसाणी ॥
Iknĥaa péraṇ sir kʰur paaté iknĥaa vaas masaaṇee.
some had their robes torn away, from head to foot, while others came to dwell in the cremation ground.

ਜਿਨੑ ਕੇ ਬੰਕੇ ਘਰੀ ਨ ਆਇਆ ਤਿਨੑ ਕਿਉ ਰੈਣਿ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ ॥੬॥
जिन्ह के बंके घरी न आइआ तिन्ह किउ रैणि विहाणी ॥६॥
Jinĥ ké banké gʰaree na aa▫i▫aa ṫinĥ ki▫o ræṇ vihaaṇee. ||6||
Their husbands did not return home - how did they pass their night? ||6||

ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਖਿ ਸੁਣਾਈਐ ॥
आपे करे कराए करता किस नो आखि सुणाईऐ ॥
Aapé karé karaa▫é karṫaa kis no aakʰ suṇaa▫ee▫æ.
The Creator Himself acts, and causes others to act. Unto whom should we complain?

ਦੁਖੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਹੋਵੈ ਕਿਸ ਥੈ ਜਾਇ ਰੂਆਈਐ ॥
दुखु सुखु तेरै भाणै होवै किस थै जाइ रूआईऐ ॥
Ḋukʰ sukʰ ṫéræ bʰaaṇæ hovæ kis ṫʰæ jaa▫é roo▫aa▫ee▫æ.
Pleasure and pain come by Your Will; unto whom should we go and cry?

ਹੁਕਮੀ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਚਲਾਏ ਵਿਗਸੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੭॥੧੨॥
हुकमी हुकमि चलाए विगसै नानक लिखिआ पाईऐ ॥७॥१२॥
Hukmee hukam chalaa▫é vigsæ Naanak likʰi▫aa paa▫ee▫æ. ||7||12||
The Commander issues His Command, and is pleased. O Nanak! We receive what is written in our destiny. ||7||12||

ਆਸਾ ਕਾਫੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ਘਰੁ ੮ ਅਸਟਪਦੀਆ ॥
आसा काफी महला १ घरु ८ असटपदीआ ॥
Aasaa kaafee mėhlaa 1 gʰar 8 asatpaḋee▫aa.

ਜੈਸੇ ਗੋਇਲਿ ਗੋਇਲੀ ਤੈਸੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
जैसे गोइलि गोइली तैसे संसारा ॥
Jæsé go▫il go▫ilee ṫæsé sansaaraa.
As the shepherd is in the field for only a short time, so is one in the world.

ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਆਦਮੀ ਬਾਂਧਹਿ ਘਰ ਬਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
कूड़ु कमावहि आदमी बांधहि घर बारा ॥१॥
Kooṛ kamaavėh aaḋmee baaⁿḋʰėh gʰar baaraa. ||1||
Practicing falsehood, they build their homes. ||1||
|
ਜਾਗਹੁ ਜਾਗਹੁ ਸੂਤਿਹੋ ਚਲਿਆ ਵਣਜਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
जागहु जागहु सूतिहो चलिआ वणजारा ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Jaagahu jaagahu sooṫiho chali▫aa vaṇjaaraa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Wake up! Wake up! O sleepers, see that the traveling merchant is leaving. ||1||Pause||
|
ਨੀਤ ਨੀਤ ਘਰ ਬਾਂਧੀਅਹਿ ਜੇ ਰਹਣਾ ਹੋਈ ॥
नीत नीत घर बांधीअहि जे रहणा होई ॥
Neeṫ neeṫ gʰar baaⁿḋʰee▫ah jé rahṇaa ho▫ee.
Go ahead and build your houses, if you think you will stay here forever and ever.

ਪਿੰਡੁ ਪਵੈ ਜੀਉ ਚਲਸੀ ਜੇ ਜਾਣੈ ਕੋਈ ॥੨॥
पिंडु पवै जीउ चलसी जे जाणै कोई ॥२॥
Pind pavæ jee▫o chalsee jé jaaṇæ ko▫ee. ||2||
The body shall fall, and the soul shall depart; if only they knew this. ||2||
|
ਓਹੀ ਓਹੀ ਕਿਆ ਕਰਹੁ ਹੈ ਹੋਸੀ ਸੋਈ ॥
ओही ओही किआ करहु है होसी सोई ॥
Ohee ohee ki▫aa karahu hæ hosee so▫ee.
Why do you cry out and mourn for the dead? The Lord is, and shall always be.

ਤੁਮ ਰੋਵਹੁਗੇ ਓਸ ਨੋ ਤੁਮੑ ਕਉ ਕਉਣੁ ਰੋਈ ॥੩॥
तुम रोवहुगे ओस नो तुम्ह कउ कउणु रोई ॥३॥
Ṫum rovhugé os no ṫumĥ ka▫o ka▫uṇ ro▫ee. ||3||
You mourn for that person, but who will mourn for you? ||3||
|
ਧੰਧਾ ਪਿਟਿਹੁ ਭਾਈਹੋ ਤੁਮੑ ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵਹੁ ॥
धंधा पिटिहु भाईहो तुम्ह कूड़ु कमावहु ॥
Ḋʰanḋʰaa pitihu bʰaa▫eeho ṫumĥ kooṛ kamaavahu.
You are engrossed in worldly entanglements, O Siblings of Destiny, and you are practicing falsehood.

ਓਹੁ ਨ ਸੁਣਈ ਕਤ ਹੀ ਤੁਮੑ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਣਾਵਹੁ ॥੪॥
ओहु न सुणई कत ही तुम्ह लोक सुणावहु ॥४॥
Oh na suṇ▫ee kaṫ hee ṫumĥ lok suṇavhu. ||4||
The dead person does not hear anything at all; your cries are heard only by other people. ||4||
|
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਸੁਤਾ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਜਾਗਾਏ ਸੋਈ ॥
जिस ते सुता नानका जागाए सोई ॥
Jis ṫé suṫaa naankaa jaagaa▫é so▫ee.
Only the Lord, who causes the mortal to sleep, O Nanak! Can awaken him again.
|
ਜੇ ਘਰੁ ਬੂਝੈ ਆਪਣਾ ਤਾਂ ਨੀਦ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੫॥
जे घरु बूझै आपणा तां नीद न होई ॥५॥
Jé gʰar boojʰæ aapṇaa ṫaaⁿ neeḋ na ho▫ee. ||5||
One who understands his true home, does not sleep. ||5||
|
ਜੇ ਚਲਦਾ ਲੈ ਚਲਿਆ ਕਿਛੁ ਸੰਪੈ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
जे चलदा लै चलिआ किछु स्मपै नाले ॥
Jé chalḋaa læ chali▫aa kichʰ sampæ naalé.
If the departing mortal can take his wealth with him,
|
ਤਾ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਹੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਬੂਝਹੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥੬॥
ता धनु संचहु देखि कै बूझहु बीचारे ॥६॥
Ṫaa ḋʰan sanchahu ḋékʰ kæ boojʰhu beechaaré. ||6||
then go ahead and gather wealth yourself. See this, reflect upon it, and understand. ||6||
|
ਵਣਜੁ ਕਰਹੁ ਮਖਸੂਦੁ ਲੈਹੁ ਮਤ ਪਛੋਤਾਵਹੁ ॥
वणजु करहु मखसूदु लैहु मत पछोतावहु ॥
vaṇaj karahu makʰsooḋ læhu maṫ pachʰoṫaavahu.
Make your deals, and obtain the true merchandise, or else you shall regret it later.
|
ਅਉਗਣ ਛੋਡਹੁ ਗੁਣ ਕਰਹੁ ਐਸੇ ਤਤੁ ਪਰਾਵਹੁ ॥੭॥
अउगण छोडहु गुण करहु ऐसे ततु परावहु ॥७॥
A▫ugaṇ chʰodahu guṇ karahu æsé ṫaṫ paraavahu. ||7||
Abandon your vices, and practice virtue, and you shall obtain the essence of reality. ||7||
|
ਧਰਮੁ ਭੂਮਿ ਸਤੁ ਬੀਜੁ ਕਰਿ ਐਸੀ ਕਿਰਸ ਕਮਾਵਹੁ ॥
धरमु भूमि सतु बीजु करि ऐसी किरस कमावहु ॥
Ḋʰaram bʰoom saṫ beej kar æsee kiras kamaavahu.
Plant the seed of Truth in the soil of Dharmic faith, and practice such farming.
|
ਤਾਂ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਜਾਣੀਅਹੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਲੈ ਜਾਵਹੁ ॥੮॥
तां वापारी जाणीअहु लाहा लै जावहु ॥८॥
Ṫaaⁿ vaapaaree jaaṇee▫ahu laahaa læ jaavhu. ||8||
Only then will you be known as a merchant, if you take your profits with you. ||8||
|
ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
करमु होवै सतिगुरु मिलै बूझै बीचारा ॥
Karam hovæ saṫgur milæ boojʰæ beechaaraa.
If the Lord shows His Mercy, one meets the True Guru; contemplating Him, one comes to understand.
|
ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ਸੁਣੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਬਿਉਹਾਰਾ ॥੯॥
नामु वखाणै सुणे नामु नामे बिउहारा ॥९॥
Naam vakʰaaṇæ suṇé naam naamé bi▫uhaaraa. ||9||
Then, one chants the Naam, hears the Naam, and deals only in the Naam. ||9||
|
ਜਿਉ ਲਾਹਾ ਤੋਟਾ ਤਿਵੈ ਵਾਟ ਚਲਦੀ ਆਈ ॥
जिउ लाहा तोटा तिवै वाट चलदी आई ॥
Ji▫o laahaa ṫotaa ṫivæ vaat chalḋee aa▫ee.
As is the profit, so is the loss; this is the way of the world.
|
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕਾ ਸਾਈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧੦॥੧੩॥
जो तिसु भावै नानका साई वडिआई ॥१०॥१३॥
Jo ṫis bʰaavæ naankaa saa▫ee vadi▫aa▫ee. ||10||13||
Whatever pleases His Will, O Nanak! Is glory for me. ||10||13||

ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਢੂਢੀਆ ਕੋ ਨੀਮੑੀ ਮੈਡਾ ॥
चारे कुंडा ढूढीआ को नीम्ही मैडा ॥
Chaaré kundaa dʰoodʰee▫aa ko neemĥee mædaa.
I have searched in the four directions, but no one is mine.
|
ਜੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਤੂ ਮੈ ਹਉ ਤੈਡਾ ॥੧॥
जे तुधु भावै साहिबा तू मै हउ तैडा ॥१॥
Jé ṫuḋʰ bʰaavæ saahibaa ṫoo mæ ha▫o ṫædaa. ||1||
If it pleases You, O Lord Master, then You are mine, and I am Yours. ||1||
|
ਦਰੁ ਬੀਭਾ ਮੈ ਨੀਮੑਿ ਕੋ ਕੈ ਕਰੀ ਸਲਾਮੁ ॥
दरु बीभा मै नीम्हि को कै करी सलामु ॥
Ḋar beebʰaa mæ neemiĥ ko kæ karee salaam.
There is no other door for me; where shall I go to worship?

ਹਿਕੋ ਮੈਡਾ ਤੂ ਧਣੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
हिको मैडा तू धणी साचा मुखि नामु ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Hiko mædaa ṫoo ḋʰaṇee saachaa mukʰ naam. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
You are my only Lord; Your True Name is in my mouth. ||1||Pause||
|
ਸਿਧਾ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸਿਧ ਪੀਰ ਮਾਗਹਿ ਰਿਧਿ ਸਿਧਿ ॥
सिधा सेवनि सिध पीर मागहि रिधि सिधि ॥
Siḋʰaa sévan siḋʰ peer maagėh riḋʰ siḋʰ.
Some serve the Siddhas, the beings of spiritual perfection, and some serve spiritual teachers; they beg for wealth and miraculous powers.

ਮੈ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਵੀਸਰੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਗੁਰ ਬੁਧਿ ॥੨॥
मै इकु नामु न वीसरै साचे गुर बुधि ॥२॥
Mæ ik naam na veesræ saaché gur buḋʰ. ||2||
May I never forget the Naam, the Name of the One Lord. This is the wisdom of the True Guru. ||2||
