ਨਾਮੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਬੁਝੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਰਜਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
नामे त्रिसना अगनि बुझै नामु मिलै तिसै रजाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Naamé ṫarisnaa agan bujʰæ naam milæ ṫisæ rajaa▫ee. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Through the Naam, the fire of desire is extinguished; the Naam is obtained by His Will. ||1||Pause||

ਕਲਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਨੁ ॥
कलि कीरति सबदु पछानु ॥
Kal keeraṫ sabaḋ pachʰaan.
In the Dark Age of Kali Yuga, realize the Word of the Shabad.
|
ਏਹਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਚੂਕੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
एहा भगति चूकै अभिमानु ॥
Éhaa bʰagaṫ chookæ abʰimaan.
By this devotional worship, egotism is eliminated.
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਹੋਵੈ ਪਰਵਾਨੁ ॥
सतिगुरु सेविऐ होवै परवानु ॥
Saṫgur sévi▫æ hovæ parvaan.
Serving the True Guru, one becomes approved.

ਜਿਨਿ ਆਸਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਤਿਸ ਨੋ ਜਾਨੁ ॥੨॥
जिनि आसा कीती तिस नो जानु ॥२॥
Jin aasaa keeṫee ṫis no jaan. ||2||
So, know the One, who created hope and desire. ||2||
|
ਤਿਸੁ ਕਿਆ ਦੀਜੈ ਜਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
तिसु किआ दीजै जि सबदु सुणाए ॥
Ṫis ki▫aa ḋeejæ jė sabaḋ suṇaa▫é.
What shall we offer to one who proclaims the Word of the Shabad?

ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
करि किरपा नामु मंनि वसाए ॥
Kar kirpaa naam man vasaa▫é.
By His Grace, the Naam is enshrined within our minds.
|
ਇਹੁ ਸਿਰੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
इहु सिरु दीजै आपु गवाए ॥
Ih sir ḋeejæ aap gavaa▫é.
Offer your head, and shed your self-conceit.
|
ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੂਝੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥੩॥
हुकमै बूझे सदा सुखु पाए ॥३॥
Hukmæ boojʰé saḋaa sukʰ paa▫é. ||3||
One who understands the Lord’s Command finds lasting peace. ||3||
|
ਆਪਿ ਕਰੇ ਤੈ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਾਏ ॥
आपि करे तै आपि कराए ॥
Aap karé ṫæ aap karaa▫é.
He Himself does, and causes others to do.
|
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
आपे गुरमुखि नामु वसाए ॥
Aapé gurmukʰ naam vasaa▫é.
He Himself enshrines His Name in the mind of the Gurmukh.
|
ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਵੈ ਆਪਿ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਪਾਏ ॥
आपि भुलावै आपि मारगि पाए ॥
Aap bʰulaavæ aap maarag paa▫é.
He Himself misleads us, and He Himself puts us back on the Path.
|
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੪॥
सचै सबदि सचि समाए ॥४॥
Sachæ sabaḋ sach samaa▫é. ||4||
Through the True Word of the Shabad, we merge into the True Lord. ||4||
|
ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਸਚੀ ਹੈ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
सचा सबदु सची है बाणी ॥
Sachaa sabaḋ sachee hæ baṇee.
True is the Shabad, and True is the Word of the Lord’s Bani.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਜੁਗਿ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥
गुरमुखि जुगि जुगि आखि वखाणी ॥
Gurmukʰ jug jug aakʰ vakʰaaṇee.
In each and every age, the Gurmukhs speak it and chant it.

ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੋਲਾਣੀ ॥
मनमुखि मोहि भरमि भोलाणी ॥
Manmukʰ mohi bʰaram bʰolaaṇee.
The self-willed Manmukhs are deluded by doubt and attachment.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਉਰਾਣੀ ॥੫॥
बिनु नावै सभ फिरै बउराणी ॥५॥
Bin naavæ sabʰ firæ ba▫uraaṇee. ||5||
Without the Name, everyone wanders around insane. ||5||
|
ਤੀਨਿ ਭਵਨ ਮਹਿ ਏਕਾ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
तीनि भवन महि एका माइआ ॥
Ṫeen bʰavan mėh ékaa maa▫i▫aa.
Throughout the three worlds, is the one Maya.
|
ਮੂਰਖਿ ਪੜਿ ਪੜਿ ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥
मूरखि पड़ि पड़ि दूजा भाउ द्रिड़ाइआ ॥
Moorakʰ paṛ paṛ ḋoojaa bʰaa▫o driṛ▫aa▫i▫aa.
The fool reads and reads, but holds tight to duality.
|
ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਬਾਇਆ ॥
बहु करम कमावै दुखु सबाइआ ॥
Baho karam kamaavæ ḋukʰ sabaa▫i▫aa.
He performs all sorts of rituals, but still suffers terrible pain.
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
सतिगुरु सेवि सदा सुखु पाइआ ॥६॥
Saṫgur sév saḋaa sukʰ paa▫i▫aa. ||6||
Serving the True Guru, eternal peace is obtained. ||6||
|
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
अमृतु मीठा सबदु वीचारि ॥
Amriṫ meetʰaa sabaḋ veechaar.
Reflective meditation upon the Shabad is such sweet nectar.
|
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭੋਗੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
अनदिनु भोगे हउमै मारि ॥
An▫ḋin bʰogé ha▫umæ maar.
Night and day, one enjoys it, subduing his ego.
|
ਸਹਜਿ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
सहजि अनंदि किरपा धारि ॥
Sahj anand kirpaa ḋʰaar.
When the Lord showers His Mercy, we enjoy celestial bliss.
|
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥੭॥
नामि रते सदा सचि पिआरि ॥७॥
Naam raṫé saḋaa sach pi▫aar. ||7||
Imbued with the Naam, love the True Lord forever. ||7||
|
ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਪੜੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
हरि जपि पड़ीऐ गुर सबदु वीचारि ॥
Har jap paṛee▫æ gur sabaḋ veechaar.
Meditate on the Lord, and read and reflect upon the Guru’s Shabad.
|
ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਪੜੀਐ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ॥
हरि जपि पड़ीऐ हउमै मारि ॥
Har jap paṛee▫æ ha▫umæ maar.
Subdue your ego and meditate on the Lord.
|
ਹਰਿ ਜਪੀਐ ਭਇ ਸਚਿ ਪਿਆਰਿ ॥
हरि जपीऐ भइ सचि पिआरि ॥
Har japee▫æ bʰa▫é sach pi▫aar.
Meditate on the Lord, and be imbued with fear and love of the True One.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਉਰ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੮॥੩॥੨੫॥
नानक नामु गुरमति उर धारि ॥८॥३॥२५॥
Naanak naam gurmaṫ ur ḋʰaar. ||8||3||25||
O Nanak! Enshrine the Naam within your heart, through the Guru’s Teachings. ||8||3||25||

गुर ते सांति ऊपजै जिनि त्रिसना अगनि बुझाई ॥
Gur ṫé saaⁿṫ oopjæ jin ṫarisnaa agan bujʰaa▫ee.
Peace emanates from the Guru; He puts out the fire of desire.

ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੧॥
गुर ते नामु पाईऐ वडी वडिआई ॥१॥
Gur ṫé naam paa▫ee▫æ vadee vadi▫aa▫ee. ||1||
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is obtained from the Guru; it is the greatest greatness. ||1||
|
ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੇਤਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
एको नामु चेति मेरे भाई ॥
Éko naam chéṫ méré bʰaa▫ee.
Keep the One Name in your consciousness, O my Siblings of Destiny.

ਜਗਤੁ ਜਲੰਦਾ ਦੇਖਿ ਕੈ ਭਜਿ ਪਏ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
जगतु जलंदा देखि कै भजि पए सरणाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Jagaṫ jalanḋaa ḋékʰ kæ bʰaj pa▫é sarṇaa▫ee. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Seeing the world on fire, I have hurried to the Lord’s Sanctuary. ||1||Pause||

ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਮਹਾ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
गुर ते गिआनु ऊपजै महा ततु बीचारा ॥
Gur ṫé gi▫aan oopjæ mahaa ṫaṫ beechaaraa.
Spiritual wisdom emanates from the Guru. Reflect upon the supreme essence of reality!

ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਘਰੁ ਦਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਭਗਤੀ ਭਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
गुर ते घरु दरु पाइआ भगती भरे भंडारा ॥२॥
Gur ṫé gʰar ḋar paa▫i▫aa bʰagṫee bʰaré bʰandaaraa. ||2||
Through the Guru, the Lord’s Mansion and His Court are attained; His devotional worship is overflowing with treasures. ||2||
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਬੂਝੈ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
गुरमुखि नामु धिआईऐ बूझै वीचारा ॥
Gurmukʰ naam ḋʰi▫aa▫ee▫æ boojʰæ veechaaraa.
The Gurmukh meditates on the Naam; he achieves reflective meditation and understanding.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਲਾਹ ਹੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
गुरमुखि भगति सलाह है अंतरि सबदु अपारा ॥३॥
Gurmukʰ bʰagaṫ salaah hæ anṫar sabaḋ apaaraa. ||3||
The Gurmukh is the Lord’s devotee, immersed in His Praises; the Infinite Word of the Shabad dwells within him. ||3||
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੂਖੁ ਊਪਜੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
गुरमुखि सूखु ऊपजै दुखु कदे न होई ॥
Gurmukʰ sookʰ oopjæ ḋukʰ kaḋé na ho▫ee.
Happiness emanates from the Gurmukh; he never suffers pain.
|
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰੀਐ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥
गुरमुखि हउमै मारीऐ मनु निरमलु होई ॥४॥
Gurmukʰ ha▫umæ maaree▫æ man nirmal ho▫ee. ||4||
The Gurmukh conquers his ego, and his mind is immaculately pure. ||4||
|
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਆਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਈ ॥
सतिगुरि मिलिऐ आपु गइआ त्रिभवण सोझी पाई ॥
Saṫgur mili▫æ aap ga▫i▫aa ṫaribʰavaṇ sojʰee paa▫ee.
Meeting the True Guru, self-conceit is removed, and understanding of the three worlds is obtained.

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਸਰਿ ਰਹੀ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੫॥
निरमल जोति पसरि रही जोती जोति मिलाई ॥५॥
Nirmal joṫ pasar rahee joṫee joṫ milaa▫ee. ||5||
The Immaculate Divine Light is pervading and permeating everywhere; one’s light merges into the Light. ||5||
|
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਹੋਈ ॥
पूरै गुरि समझाइआ मति ऊतम होई ॥
Pooræ gur samjʰaa▫i▫aa maṫ ooṫam ho▫ee.
The Perfect Guru instructs, and one’s intellect becomes sublime.

ਅੰਤਰੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਨਾਮੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੬॥
अंतरु सीतलु सांति होइ नामे सुखु होई ॥६॥
Anṫar seeṫal saaⁿṫ ho▫é naamé sukʰ ho▫ee. ||6||
A cooling and soothing peace comes within, and through the Naam, peace is obtained. ||6||
|
ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤਾਂ ਮਿਲੈ ਜਾਂ ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇਈ ॥
पूरा सतिगुरु तां मिलै जां नदरि करेई ॥
Pooraa saṫgur ṫaaⁿ milæ jaaⁿ naḋar karé▫ee.
One meets the Perfect True Guru only when the Lord bestows His Glance of Grace.

ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਪਾਪ ਸਭ ਕਟੀਅਹਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੭॥
किलविख पाप सभ कटीअहि फिरि दुखु बिघनु न होई ॥७॥
Kilvikʰ paap sabʰ katee▫ah fir ḋukʰ bigʰan na ho▫ee. ||7||
All sins and vices are eradicated, and one shall never again suffer pain or distress. ||7||
