ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ਮਤਿਹੀਨੁ ਨਿਰਗੁਨੁ ਅਨਾਥੁ ਨੀਚੁ ॥
अपराधी मतिहीनु निरगुनु अनाथु नीचु ॥
Apraaḋʰee maṫiheen nirgun anaaṫʰ neech.
I am a sinner, devoid of wisdom, worthless, destitute and vile.

ਸਠ ਕਠੋਰੁ ਕੁਲਹੀਨੁ ਬਿਆਪਤ ਮੋਹ ਕੀਚੁ ॥
सठ कठोरु कुलहीनु बिआपत मोह कीचु ॥
Satʰ katʰor kulheen bi▫aapaṫ moh keech.
I am deceitful, hard-hearted, lowly and entangled in the mud of emotional attachment.

ਮਲ ਭਰਮ ਕਰਮ ਅਹੰ ਮਮਤਾ ਮਰਣੁ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਏ ॥
मल भरम करम अहं ममता मरणु चीति न आवए ॥
Mal bʰaram karam ahaⁿ mamṫaa maraṇ cheeṫ na aav▫é.
I am stuck in the filth of doubt and egotistical actions, and I try not to think of death.

ਬਨਿਤਾ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਅਨੰਦ ਮਾਇਆ ਅਗਿਆਨਤਾ ਲਪਟਾਵਏ ॥
बनिता बिनोद अनंद माइआ अगिआनता लपटावए ॥
Baniṫaa binoḋ anand maa▫i▫aa agi▫aanṫaa laptaav▫é.
In ignorance, I cling to the pleasures of my woman and the joys of Maya.

ਖਿਸੈ ਜੋਬਨੁ ਬਧੈ ਜਰੂਆ ਦਿਨ ਨਿਹਾਰੇ ਸੰਗਿ ਮੀਚੁ ॥
खिसै जोबनु बधै जरूआ दिन निहारे संगि मीचु ॥
Kʰisæ joban baḋʰæ jaroo▫aa ḋin nihaaré sang meech.
My youth is wasting away, old age is approaching, and Death, my companion, is counting my days.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਆਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਰਾਖੁ ਨੀਚੁ ॥੨॥
बिनवंति नानक आस तेरी सरणि साधू राखु नीचु ॥२॥
Binvanṫ Naanak aas ṫéree saraṇ saaḋʰoo raakʰ neech. ||2||
Prays Nanak, my hope is in You, Lord; please preserve me, the lowly one, in the Sanctuary of the Holy. ||2||

ਭਰਮੇ ਜਨਮ ਅਨੇਕ ਸੰਕਟ ਮਹਾ ਜੋਨ ॥
भरमे जनम अनेक संकट महा जोन ॥
Bʰarmé janam anék sankat mahaa jon.
I have wandered through countless incarnations, suffering terrible pain in these lives.

ਲਪਟਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਤਿਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਮੀਠੇ ਭੋਗ ਸੋਨ ॥
लपटि रहिओ तिह संगि मीठे भोग सोन ॥
Lapat rahi▫o ṫih sang meetʰé bʰog son.
I am entangled in sweet pleasures and gold.

ਭ੍ਰਮਤ ਭਾਰ ਅਗਨਤ ਆਇਓ ਬਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸਹ ਧਾਇਓ ॥
भ्रमत भार अगनत आइओ बहु प्रदेसह धाइओ ॥
Bʰarmaṫ bʰaar agnaṫ aa▫i▫o baho parḋésėh ḋʰaa▫i▫o.
After wandering around with such great loads of sin, I have come, after wandering through so many foreign lands.

ਅਬ ਓਟ ਧਾਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ਸਰਬ ਸੁਖ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਇਓ ॥
अब ओट धारी प्रभ मुरारी सरब सुख हरि नाइओ ॥
Ab ot ḋʰaaree parabʰ muraaree sarab sukʰ har naa▫i▫o.
Now, I have taken the protection of God, and I have found total peace in the Name of the Lord.

ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਮੁਝ ਤੇ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਆ ਹੋਨ ॥
राखनहारे प्रभ पिआरे मुझ ते कछू न होआ होन ॥
Raakʰanhaaré parabʰ pi▫aaré mujʰ ṫé kachʰoo na ho▫aa hon.
God, my Beloved, is my protector; nothing was done, or will ever be done, by myself alone.

ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਨਾਨਕ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਤਰੈ ਭਉਨ ॥੩॥
सूख सहज आनंद नानक क्रिपा तेरी तरै भउन ॥३॥
Sookʰ sahj aananḋ Naanak kirpaa ṫéree ṫaræ bʰa▫un. ||3||
I have found peace, poise and bliss, O Nanak; by Your mercy, I swim across the world-ocean. ||3||

ਨਾਮ ਧਾਰੀਕ ਉਧਾਰੇ ਭਗਤਹ ਸੰਸਾ ਕਉਨ ॥
नाम धारीक उधारे भगतह संसा कउन ॥
Naam ḋʰaareek uḋʰaaré bʰagṫah sansaa ka▫un.
You saved those who only pretended to believe, so what doubts should Your true devotees have?

ਜੇਨ ਕੇਨ ਪਰਕਾਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ॥
जेन केन परकारे हरि हरि जसु सुनहु स्रवन ॥
Jén kén parkaaré har har jas sunhu sarvan.
By every means possible, listen to the Praises of the Lord with your ears.

ਸੁਨਿ ਸ੍ਰਵਨ ਬਾਨੀ ਪੁਰਖ ਗਿਆਨੀ ਮਨਿ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ਪਾਵਹੇ ॥
सुनि स्रवन बानी पुरख गिआनी मनि निधाना पावहे ॥
Sun sarvan baanee purakʰ gi▫aanee man niḋʰaanaa paavhé.
Listen with your ears to the Word of the Lord’s Bani, the hymns of spiritual wisdom; thus, you shall obtain the treasure in your mind.

ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ਰਾਮ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੇ ॥
हरि रंगि राते प्रभ बिधाते राम के गुण गावहे ॥
Har rang raaṫé parabʰ biḋʰaaṫé raam ké guṇ gaavhé.
Attuned to the Love of the Lord God, the Architect of Destiny, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

ਬਸੁਧ ਕਾਗਦ ਬਨਰਾਜ ਕਲਮਾ ਲਿਖਣ ਕਉ ਜੇ ਹੋਇ ਪਵਨ ॥
बसुध कागद बनराज कलमा लिखण कउ जे होइ पवन ॥
Basuḋʰ kaagaḋ banraaj kalmaa likʰaṇ ka▫o jé ho▫é pavan.
The earth is the paper, the forest is the pen and the wind is the writer,

ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਪਾਇਆ ਗਹੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਚਰਣ ਸਰਨ ॥੪॥੫॥੮॥
बेअंत अंतु न जाइ पाइआ गही नानक चरण सरन ॥४॥५॥८॥
Bé▫anṫ anṫ na jaa▫é paa▫i▫aa gahee Naanak charaṇ saran. ||4||5||8||
but still, the end of the endless Lord cannot be found. O Nanak! I have taken to the Sanctuary of His lotus feet. ||4||5||8||

ਪੁਰਖ ਪਤੇ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਗਹੀ ॥
पुरख पते भगवान ता की सरणि गही ॥
Purakʰ paṫé bʰagvaan ṫaa kee saraṇ gahee.
The Primal Lord is the Lord God of all beings. I have taken to His Sanctuary.

ਨਿਰਭਉ ਭਏ ਪਰਾਨ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਸਗਲ ਲਹੀ ॥
निरभउ भए परान चिंता सगल लही ॥
Nirbʰa▫o bʰa▫é paraan chinṫaa sagal lahee.
My life has become fearless, and all my anxieties have been removed.

ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਮੀਤ ਸੁਰਿਜਨ ਇਸਟ ਬੰਧਪ ਜਾਣਿਆ ॥
मात पिता सुत मीत सुरिजन इसट बंधप जाणिआ ॥
Maaṫ piṫaa suṫ meeṫ surijan isat banḋʰap jaaṇi▫aa.
I know the Lord as my mother, father, son, friend, well-wisher and close relative.

ਗਹਿ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ਜਸੁ ਬਿਮਲ ਸੰਤ ਵਖਾਣਿਆ ॥
गहि कंठि लाइआ गुरि मिलाइआ जसु बिमल संत वखाणिआ ॥
Gėh kantʰ laa▫i▫aa gur milaa▫i▫aa jas bimal sanṫ vakʰaaṇi▫aa.
The Guru has led me to embrace Him; the Saints chant His Pure Praises.

ਬੇਅੰਤ ਗੁਣ ਅਨੇਕ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਕਹੀ ॥
बेअंत गुण अनेक महिमा कीमति कछू न जाइ कही ॥
Bé▫anṫ guṇ anék mahimaa keemaṫ kachʰoo na jaa▫é kahee.
His Glorious Virtues are infinite, and His greatness is unlimited. His value cannot be described at all.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਏਕ ਅਨਿਕ ਅਲਖ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਓਟ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਗਹੀ ॥੧॥
प्रभ एक अनिक अलख ठाकुर ओट नानक तिसु गही ॥१॥
Parabʰ ék anik alakʰ tʰaakur ot Naanak ṫis gahee. ||1||
God is the One and only, the Unseen Lord and Master; O Nanak! I have grasped His protection. ||1||
|
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਨੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਸਹਾਈ ਆਪਿ ਭਏ ॥
अमृत बनु संसारु सहाई आपि भए ॥
Amriṫ ban sansaar sahaa▫ee aap bʰa▫é.
The world is a pool of nectar, when the Lord becomes our helper.

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਰ ਹਾਰੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਕੇ ਦਿਵਸ ਗਏ ॥
राम नामु उर हारु बिखु के दिवस गए ॥
Raam naam ur haar bikʰ ké ḋivas ga▫é.
One who wears the necklace of the Lord’s Name - his days of suffering are ended.

ਗਤੁ ਭਰਮ ਮੋਹ ਬਿਕਾਰ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਜੋਨਿ ਆਵਣ ਸਭ ਰਹੇ ॥
गतु भरम मोह बिकार बिनसे जोनि आवण सभ रहे ॥
Gaṫ bʰaram moh bikaar binsé jon aavaṇ sabʰ rahé.
His state of doubt, attachment and sin is erased, and the cycle of reincarnation into the womb is totally ended.

ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਭਏ ਸੀਤਲ ਸਾਧ ਅੰਚਲ ਗਹਿ ਰਹੇ ॥
अगनि सागर भए सीतल साध अंचल गहि रहे ॥
Agan saagar bʰa▫é seeṫal saaḋʰ anchal gėh rahé.
The ocean of fire becomes cool, when one grasps the hem of the robe of the Holy Saint.

ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਦਇਆਲ ਸੰਮ੍ਰਿਥ ਬੋਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਹਰਿ ਜੈ ਜਏ ॥
गोविंद गुपाल दइआल संम्रिथ बोलि साधू हरि जै जए ॥
Govinḋ gupaal ḋa▫i▫aal sammriṫʰ bol saaḋʰoo har jæ ja▫é.
The Lord of the Universe, the Sustainer of the World, the merciful all-powerful Lord - the Holy Saints proclaim the victory of the Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਪਾਈ ਪਰਮ ਗਤੇ ॥੨॥
नानक नामु धिआइ पूरन साधसंगि पाई परम गते ॥२॥
Naanak naam ḋʰi▫aa▫é pooran saaḋʰsang paa▫ee param gaṫé. ||2||
O Nanak! Meditating on the Naam, in the perfect Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I have obtained the supreme-status. ||2||
|
ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਏਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥
जह देखउ तह संगि एको रवि रहिआ ॥
Jah ḋékʰ▫a▫u ṫah sang éko rav rahi▫aa.
Wherever I look, there I find the One Lord permeating and pervading all.
|
ਘਟ ਘਟ ਵਾਸੀ ਆਪਿ ਵਿਰਲੈ ਕਿਨੈ ਲਹਿਆ ॥
घट घट वासी आपि विरलै किनै लहिआ ॥
Gʰat gʰat vaasee aap virlæ kinæ lahi▫aa.
In each and every heart, He Himself dwells, but how rare is that person who realizes this.

ਜਲਿ ਥਲਿ ਮਹੀਅਲਿ ਪੂਰਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਕੀਟ ਹਸਤਿ ਸਮਾਨਿਆ ॥
जलि थलि महीअलि पूरि पूरन कीट हसति समानिआ ॥
Jal ṫʰal mahee▫al poor pooran keet hasaṫ samaani▫aa.
The Lord is permeating and pervading the water, the land and the sky; He is contained in the ant and the elephant.

ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤੇ ਮਧਿ ਸੋਈ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
आदि अंते मधि सोई गुर प्रसादी जानिआ ॥
Aaḋ anṫé maḋʰ so▫ee gur parsaadee jaani▫aa.
In the beginning, in the middle and in the end, He exists. By Guru’s Grace, He is known.

ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਲੀਲਾ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗੁਣ ਨਿਧਿ ਜਨਿ ਕਹਿਆ ॥
ब्रहमु पसरिआ ब्रहम लीला गोविंद गुण निधि जनि कहिआ ॥
Barahm pasri▫aa barahm leelaa govinḋ guṇ niḋʰ jan kahi▫aa.
God created the expanse of the universe, God created the play of the world. His humble servants call Him the Lord of the Universe, the treasure of virtue.

ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥੩॥
सिमरि सुआमी अंतरजामी हरि एकु नानक रवि रहिआ ॥३॥
Simar su▫aamee anṫarjaamee har ék Naanak rav rahi▫aa. ||3||
Meditate in remembrance of the Lord Master, the Searcher of hearts; O Nanak! He is the One, pervading and permeating all. ||3||
|
ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਣਿ ਸੁਹਾਵੜੀ ਆਈ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰੇ ॥
दिनु रैणि सुहावड़ी आई सिमरत नामु हरे ॥
Ḋin ræṇ suhaavaṛee aa▫ee simraṫ naam haré.
Day and night, become beauteous by remembering the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
