ਜਿਹ ਜਨ ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣੇ ॥
जिह जन ओट गही प्रभ तेरी से सुखीए प्रभ सरणे ॥
Jih jan ot gahee parabʰ ṫéree sé sukʰee▫é parabʰ sarṇé.
Those who hold tightly to Your Support, God, are happy in Your Sanctuary.

ਜਿਹ ਨਰ ਬਿਸਰਿਆ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਤੇ ਦੁਖੀਆ ਮਹਿ ਗਨਣੇ ॥੨॥
जिह नर बिसरिआ पुरखु बिधाता ते दुखीआ महि गनणे ॥२॥
Jih nar bisri▫aa purakʰ biḋʰaaṫaa ṫé ḋukʰee▫aa mėh ganṇé. ||2||
But those humble beings who forget the Primal Lord, the Architect of Destiny, are counted among the most miserable beings. ||2||

ਜਿਹ ਗੁਰ ਮਾਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਤਿਹ ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਰਸੁ ਕਰਿਆ ॥
जिह गुर मानि प्रभू लिव लाई तिह महा अनंद रसु करिआ ॥
Jih gur maan parabʰoo liv laa▫ee ṫih mahaa anand ras kari▫aa.
One who has faith in the Guru, and who is lovingly attached to God, enjoys the delights of supreme ecstasy.

ਜਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਬੇਮੁਖਾਈ ਤੇ ਨਰਕ ਘੋਰ ਮਹਿ ਪਰਿਆ ॥੩॥
जिह प्रभू बिसारि गुर ते बेमुखाई ते नरक घोर महि परिआ ॥३॥
Jih parabʰoo bisaar gur ṫé bémukʰaa▫ee ṫé narak gʰor mėh pari▫aa. ||3||
One who forgets God and forsakes the Guru, falls into the most horrible hell. ||3||

ਜਿਤੁ ਕੋ ਲਾਇਆ ਤਿਤ ਹੀ ਲਾਗਾ ਤੈਸੋ ਹੀ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ॥
जितु को लाइआ तित ही लागा तैसो ही वरतारा ॥
Jiṫ ko laa▫i▫aa ṫiṫ hee laagaa ṫæso hee varṫaaraa.
As the Lord engages someone, so he is engaged, and so does he perform.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹ ਪਕਰੀ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਰਿਦੈ ਭਏ ਮਗਨ ਚਰਨਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੫॥
नानक सह पकरी संतन की रिदै भए मगन चरनारा ॥४॥४॥१५॥
Naanak sah pakree sanṫan kee riḋæ bʰa▫é magan charnaaraa. ||4||4||15||
Nanak has taken the Shelter of the Saints; his heart is absorbed in the Lord’s feet. ||4||4||15||

ਰਾਜਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਜਾ ਉਰਝਾਇਓ ਮਾਨਨ ਮਹਿ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੀ ॥
राजन महि राजा उरझाइओ मानन महि अभिमानी ॥
Raajan mėh raajaa urjʰaa▫i▫o maanan mėh abʰimaanee.
As the king is entangled in kingly affairs, and the egotist in his own egotism,
|
ਲੋਭਨ ਮਹਿ ਲੋਭੀ ਲੋਭਾਇਓ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਚੇ ਗਿਆਨੀ ॥੧॥
लोभन महि लोभी लोभाइओ तिउ हरि रंगि रचे गिआनी ॥१॥
Lobʰan mėh lobʰee lobʰaa▫i▫o ṫi▫o har rang raché gi▫aanee. ||1||
and the greedy man is enticed by greed, so is the spiritually enlightened being absorbed in the Love of the Lord. ||1||
|
ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕਉ ਇਹੀ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥
हरि जन कउ इही सुहावै ॥
Har jan ka▫o ihee suhaavæ.
This is what befits the Lord’s servant.
|
ਪੇਖਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨਿ ਹੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਵੈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
पेखि निकटि करि सेवा सतिगुर हरि कीरतनि ही त्रिपतावै ॥ रहाउ ॥
Pékʰ nikat kar sévaa saṫgur har keerṫan hee ṫaripṫaavæ. Rahaa▫o.
Beholding the Lord near at hand, he serves the True Guru, and he is satisfied through the Kirtan of the Lord’s Praises. ||Pause||

ਅਮਲਨ ਸਿਉ ਅਮਲੀ ਲਪਟਾਇਓ ਭੂਮਨ ਭੂਮਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥
अमलन सिउ अमली लपटाइओ भूमन भूमि पिआरी ॥
Amlan si▫o amlee laptaa▫i▫o bʰooman bʰoom pi▫aaree.
The addict is addicted to his drug, and the landlord is in love with his land.

ਖੀਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਬਾਰਿਕੁ ਹੈ ਲੀਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੰਤ ਐਸੇ ਹਿਤਕਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
खीर संगि बारिकु है लीना प्रभ संत ऐसे हितकारी ॥२॥
Kʰeer sang baarik hæ leenaa parabʰ sanṫ æsé hiṫkaaree. ||2||
As the baby is attached to his milk, so the Saint is in love with God. ||2||
|
ਬਿਦਿਆ ਮਹਿ ਬਿਦੁਅੰਸੀ ਰਚਿਆ ਨੈਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ॥
बिदिआ महि बिदुअंसी रचिआ नैन देखि सुखु पावहि ॥
Biḋi▫aa mėh biḋu▫ansee rachi▫aa næn ḋékʰ sukʰ paavahi.
The scholar is absorbed in scholarship, and the eyes are happy to see.

ਜੈਸੇ ਰਸਨਾ ਸਾਦਿ ਲੁਭਾਨੀ ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ॥੩॥
जैसे रसना सादि लुभानी तिउ हरि जन हरि गुण गावहि ॥३॥
Jæsé rasnaa saaḋ lubʰaanee ṫi▫o har jan har guṇ gaavahi. ||3||
As the tongue savors the tastes, so does the humble servant of the Lord sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||
|
ਜੈਸੀ ਭੂਖ ਤੈਸੀ ਕਾ ਪੂਰਕੁ ਸਗਲ ਘਟਾ ਕਾ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
जैसी भूख तैसी का पूरकु सगल घटा का सुआमी ॥
Jæsee bʰookʰ ṫæsee kaa poorak sagal gʰataa kaa su▫aamee.
As is the hunger, so is the hunger-remover; He is the Lord and Master of all hearts.

ਨਾਨਕ ਪਿਆਸ ਲਗੀ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੬॥
नानक पिआस लगी दरसन की प्रभु मिलिआ अंतरजामी ॥४॥५॥१६॥
Naanak pi▫aas lagee ḋarsan kee parabʰ mili▫aa anṫarjaamee. ||4||5||16||
Nanak thirsts for the Blessed Vision of the Lord’s Darshan; he has met God, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ||4||5||16||

ਹਮ ਮੈਲੇ ਤੁਮ ਊਜਲ ਕਰਤੇ ਹਮ ਨਿਰਗੁਨ ਤੂ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
हम मैले तुम ऊजल करते हम निरगुन तू दाता ॥
Ham mælé ṫum oojal karṫé ham nirgun ṫoo ḋaaṫaa.
We are filthy, and You are immaculate, O Creator Lord; we are worthless, and You are the Great Giver.

ਹਮ ਮੂਰਖ ਤੁਮ ਚਤੁਰ ਸਿਆਣੇ ਤੂ ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ਕਾ ਗਿਆਤਾ ॥੧॥
हम मूरख तुम चतुर सिआणे तू सरब कला का गिआता ॥१॥
Ham moorakʰ ṫum chaṫur si▫aaṇé ṫoo sarab kalaa kaa gi▫aaṫaa. ||1||
We are fools, and You are wise and all-knowing. You are the knower of all things. ||1||
|
ਮਾਧੋ ਹਮ ਐਸੇ ਤੂ ਐਸਾ ॥
माधो हम ऐसे तू ऐसा ॥
Maaḋʰo ham æsé ṫoo æsaa.
O Lord, this is what we are, and this is what You are.
|
ਹਮ ਪਾਪੀ ਤੁਮ ਪਾਪ ਖੰਡਨ ਨੀਕੋ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਦੇਸਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
हम पापी तुम पाप खंडन नीको ठाकुर देसा ॥ रहाउ ॥
Ham paapee ṫum paap kʰandan neeko tʰaakur ḋésaa. Rahaa▫o.
We are sinners, and You are the Destroyer of sins. Your abode is so beautiful, O Lord and Master. ||Pause||

ਤੁਮ ਸਭ ਸਾਜੇ ਸਾਜਿ ਨਿਵਾਜੇ ਜੀਉ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਦੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਾ ॥
तुम सभ साजे साजि निवाजे जीउ पिंडु दे प्राना ॥
Ṫum sabʰ saajé saaj nivaajé jee▫o pind ḋé paraanaa.
You fashion all, and having fashioned them, You bless them. You bestow upon them soul, body and the breath of life.

ਨਿਰਗੁਨੀਆਰੇ ਗੁਨੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਈ ਤੁਮ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਹੁ ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨਾ ॥੨॥
निरगुनीआरे गुनु नही कोई तुम दानु देहु मिहरवाना ॥२॥
Nirgunee▫aaré gun nahee ko▫ee ṫum ḋaan ḋéh miharvaanaa. ||2||
We are worthless - we have no virtue at all; please, bless us with Your gift, O Merciful Lord and Master. ||2||
|
ਤੁਮ ਕਰਹੁ ਭਲਾ ਹਮ ਭਲੋ ਨ ਜਾਨਹ ਤੁਮ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਦਇਆਲਾ ॥
तुम करहु भला हम भलो न जानह तुम सदा सदा दइआला ॥
Ṫum karahu bʰalaa ham bʰalo na jaanah ṫum saḋaa saḋaa ḋa▫i▫aalaa.
You do good for us, but we do not see it as good; You are kind and compassionate, forever and ever.

ਤੁਮ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ਪੁਰਖ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ਤੁਮ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਬਾਲਾ ॥੩॥
तुम सुखदाई पुरख बिधाते तुम राखहु अपुने बाला ॥३॥
Ṫum sukʰ▫ḋaa▫ee purakʰ biḋʰaaṫé ṫum raakʰo apuné baalaa. ||3||
You are the Giver of peace, the Primal Lord, the Architect of Destiny; please, save us, Your children! ||3||
|
ਤੁਮ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਅਟਲ ਸੁਲਿਤਾਨ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਜਾਚੈ ॥
तुम निधान अटल सुलितान जीअ जंत सभि जाचै ॥
Ṫum niḋʰaan atal suliṫaan jee▫a janṫ sabʰ jaachæ.
You are the treasure, eternal Lord King; all beings and creatures beg of You.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮ ਇਹੈ ਹਵਾਲਾ ਰਾਖੁ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੈ ਪਾਛੈ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੭॥
कहु नानक हम इहै हवाला राखु संतन कै पाछै ॥४॥६॥१७॥
Kaho Naanak ham ihæ havaalaa raakʰ sanṫan kæ paachʰæ. ||4||6||17||
Says Nanak, such is our condition; please, Lord, keep us on the Path of the Saints. ||4||6||17||

Sorat’h, Fifth Mehl, Second House:

ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਮਹਿ ਆਪਨ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਦੇ ਤਹ ਤੁਮ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰੇ ॥
मात गरभ महि आपन सिमरनु दे तह तुम राखनहारे ॥
Maaṫ garabʰ mėh aapan simran ḋé ṫah ṫum raakʰanhaaré.
In our mother’s womb, You blessed us with Your meditative remembrance, and You preserved us there.
|
ਪਾਵਕ ਸਾਗਰ ਅਥਾਹ ਲਹਰਿ ਮਹਿ ਤਾਰਹੁ ਤਾਰਨਹਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
पावक सागर अथाह लहरि महि तारहु तारनहारे ॥१॥
Paavak saagar aṫʰaah lahar mėh ṫaarahu ṫaaranhaaré. ||1||
Through the countless waves of the ocean of fire, please, carry us across and save us, O Savior Lord! ||1||
|
ਮਾਧੌ ਤੂ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਮੋਰਾ ॥
माधौ तू ठाकुरु सिरि मोरा ॥
Maaḋʰou ṫoo tʰaakur sir moraa.
O Lord, You are the Master above my head.

ਈਹਾ ਊਹਾ ਤੁਹਾਰੋ ਧੋਰਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
ईहा ऊहा तुहारो धोरा ॥ रहाउ ॥
Eehaa oohaa ṫuhaaro ḋʰoraa. Rahaa▫o.
Here and hereafter, You alone are my Support. ||Pause||
|
ਕੀਤੇ ਕਉ ਮੇਰੈ ਸੰਮਾਨੈ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਣੁ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
कीते कउ मेरै संमानै करणहारु त्रिणु जानै ॥
Keeṫé ka▫o méræ sammaanæ karanhaar ṫariṇ jaanæ.
He looks upon the creation like a mountain of gold, and sees the Creator as a blade of grass.

ਤੂ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਾਗਨ ਕਉ ਸਗਲੀ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਨੈ ॥੨॥
तू दाता मागन कउ सगली दानु देहि प्रभ भानै ॥२॥
Ṫoo ḋaaṫaa maagan ka▫o saglee ḋaan ḋėh parabʰ bʰaanæ. ||2||
You are the Great Giver, and we are all mere beggars; O God, You give gifts according to Your Will. ||2||
|
ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਅਵਰੁ ਖਿਨੈ ਮਹਿ ਅਵਰਾ ਅਚਰਜ ਚਲਤ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ॥
खिन महि अवरु खिनै महि अवरा अचरज चलत तुमारे ॥
Kʰin mėh avar kʰinæ mėh avraa achraj chalaṫ ṫumaaré.
In an instant, You are one thing, and in another instant, You are another. Wondrous are Your ways!

ਰੂੜੋ ਗੂੜੋ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੋ ਊਚੌ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
रूड़ो गूड़ो गहिर ग्मभीरो ऊचौ अगम अपारे ॥३॥
Rooṛo gooṛo gahir gambʰeero oochou agam apaaré. ||3||
You are beautiful, mysterious, profound, unfathomable, lofty, inaccessible and infinite. ||3||
