ਮਨ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇ ॥
मन की सार न जाणनी हउमै भरमि भुलाइ ॥
Man kee saar na jaaṇnee ha▫umæ bʰaram bʰulaa▫é.
They do not know the state of their own minds; they are deluded by doubt and egotism.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਭਉ ਪਇਆ ਵਡਭਾਗਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
गुर परसादी भउ पइआ वडभागि वसिआ मनि आइ ॥
Gur parsaadee bʰa▫o pa▫i▫aa vadbʰaag vasi▫aa man aa▫é.
By Guru’s Grace, the Fear of God is obtained; by great good fortune, the Lord comes to abide in the mind.

ਭੈ ਪਇਐ ਮਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਹੋਆ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਲਾਇ ॥
भै पइऐ मनु वसि होआ हउमै सबदि जलाइ ॥
Bʰæ pa▫i▫æ man vas ho▫aa ha▫umæ sabaḋ jalaa▫é.
When the Fear of God comes, the mind is restrained, and through the Word of the Shabad, the ego is burnt away.

ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਸੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
सचि रते से निरमले जोती जोति मिलाइ ॥
Sach raṫé sé nirmalé joṫee joṫ milaa▫é.
Those who are imbued with Truth are immaculate; their light merges in the Light.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਇਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
सतिगुरि मिलिऐ नाउ पाइआ नानक सुखि समाइ ॥२॥
Saṫgur mili▫æ naa▫o paa▫i▫aa Naanak sukʰ samaa▫é. ||2||
Meeting the True Guru, one obtains the Name; O Nanak! He is absorbed in peace. ||2||

ਏਹ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਰਾਣੇ ਰੰਗ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਰਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਾ ॥
एह भूपति राणे रंग दिन चारि सुहावणा ॥
Éh bʰoopaṫ raaṇé rang ḋin chaar suhaavaṇaa.
The pleasures of kings and emperors are pleasing, but they last for only a few days.
|
ਏਹੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਰੰਗੁ ਕਸੁੰਭ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਲਹਿ ਜਾਵਣਾ ॥
एहु माइआ रंगु कसु्मभ खिन महि लहि जावणा ॥
Éhu maa▫i▫aa rang kasumbʰ kʰin mėh lėh jaavṇaa.
These pleasures of Maya are like the color of the safflower, which wears off in a moment.

ਚਲਦਿਆ ਨਾਲਿ ਨ ਚਲੈ ਸਿਰਿ ਪਾਪ ਲੈ ਜਾਵਣਾ ॥
चलदिआ नालि न चलै सिरि पाप लै जावणा ॥
Chalḋi▫aa naal na chalæ sir paap læ jaavṇaa.
They do not go with him when he departs; instead, he carries the load of sins upon his head.

ਜਾਂ ਪਕੜਿ ਚਲਾਇਆ ਕਾਲਿ ਤਾਂ ਖਰਾ ਡਰਾਵਣਾ ॥
जां पकड़ि चलाइआ कालि तां खरा डरावणा ॥
Jaaⁿ pakaṛ chalaa▫i▫aa kaal ṫaaⁿ kʰaraa daraavaṇaa.
When death seizes him, and marches him away, then he looks absolutely hideous.

ਓਹ ਵੇਲਾ ਹਥਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਣਾ ॥੬॥
ओह वेला हथि न आवै फिरि पछुतावणा ॥६॥
Oh vélaa haṫʰ na aavæ fir pachʰuṫaavṇaa. ||6||
That lost opportunity will not come into his hands again, and in the end, he regrets and repents. ||6||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜੋ ਮੁਹ ਫਿਰੇ ਸੇ ਬਧੇ ਦੁਖ ਸਹਾਹਿ ॥
सतिगुर ते जो मुह फिरे से बधे दुख सहाहि ॥
Saṫgur ṫé jo muh firé sé baḋʰé ḋukʰ sahaahi.
Those who turn their faces away from the True Guru, suffer in sorrow and bondage.

ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਿਲਣੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਨੀ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਤੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥
फिरि फिरि मिलणु न पाइनी जंमहि तै मरि जाहि ॥
Fir fir milaṇ na paa▫inee jamėh ṫæ mar jaahi.
Again and again, they are born only to die; they cannot meet their Lord.

ਸਹਸਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਨ ਛੋਡਈ ਦੁਖ ਹੀ ਮਹਿ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
सहसा रोगु न छोडई दुख ही महि दुख पाहि ॥
Sahsaa rog na chʰod▫ee ḋukʰ hee mėh ḋukʰ paahi.
The disease of doubt does not depart, and they find only pain and more pain.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਦਰੀ ਬਖਸਿ ਲੇਹਿ ਸਬਦੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
नानक नदरी बखसि लेहि सबदे मेलि मिलाहि ॥१॥
Naanak naḋree bakʰas léhi sabḋé mél milaahi. ||1||
O Nanak! If the Gracious Lord forgives, then one is united in Union with the Word of the Shabad. ||1||

ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮੁਹ ਫਿਰੇ ਤਿਨਾ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਠਾਉ ॥
जो सतिगुर ते मुह फिरे तिना ठउर न ठाउ ॥
Jo saṫgur ṫé muh firé ṫinaa tʰa▫ur na tʰaa▫o.
Those who turn their faces away from the True Guru, shall find no place of rest or shelter.

ਜਿਉ ਛੁਟੜਿ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਦੁਹਚਾਰਣਿ ਬਦਨਾਉ ॥
जिउ छुटड़ि घरि घरि फिरै दुहचारणि बदनाउ ॥
Ji▫o chʰutaṛ gʰar gʰar firæ ḋuhchaaraṇ baḋnaa▫o.
They wander around from door to door, like a woman forsaken, with a bad character and a bad reputation.

ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਖਸੀਅਹਿ ਸੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਉ ॥੨॥
नानक गुरमुखि बखसीअहि से सतिगुर मेलि मिलाउ ॥२॥
Naanak gurmukʰ bakʰsee▫ah sé saṫgur mél milaa▫o. ||2||
O Nanak! The Gurmukhs are forgiven, and united in Union with the True Guru. ||2||

ਜੋ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਤਿ ਮੁਰਾਰਿ ਸੇ ਭਵਜਲ ਤਰਿ ਗਇਆ ॥
जो सेवहि सति मुरारि से भवजल तरि गइआ ॥
Jo sévėh saṫ muraar sé bʰavjal ṫar ga▫i▫aa.
Those who serve the True Lord, the Destroyer of ego, cross over the terrifying world-ocean.

ਜੋ ਬੋਲਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ਤਿਨ ਜਮੁ ਛਡਿ ਗਇਆ ॥
जो बोलहि हरि हरि नाउ तिन जमु छडि गइआ ॥
Jo bolėh har har naa▫o ṫin jam chʰad ga▫i▫aa.
Those who chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, are passed over by the Messenger of Death.

ਸੇ ਦਰਗਹ ਪੈਧੇ ਜਾਹਿ ਜਿਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਲਇਆ ॥
से दरगह पैधे जाहि जिना हरि जपि लइआ ॥
Sé ḋargėh pæḋʰé jaahi jinaa har jap la▫i▫aa.
Those who meditate on the Lord, go to His Court in robes of honor.
|
ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇਈ ਪੁਰਖ ਜਿਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਮਇਆ ॥
हरि सेवहि सेई पुरख जिना हरि तुधु मइआ ॥
Har sévėh sé▫ee purakʰ jinaa har ṫuḋʰ ma▫i▫aa.
They alone serve You, O Lord, whom You bless with Grace.

ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਭਉ ਗਇਆ ॥੭॥
गुण गावा पिआरे नित गुरमुखि भ्रम भउ गइआ ॥७॥
Guṇ gaavaa pi▫aaré niṫ gurmukʰ bʰaram bʰa▫o ga▫i▫aa. ||7||
I sing continually Your Glorious Praises, O Beloved; as Gurmukh, my doubts and fears have been dispelled. ||7||

ਥਾਲੈ ਵਿਚਿ ਤੈ ਵਸਤੂ ਪਈਓ ਹਰਿ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
थालै विचि तै वसतू पईओ हरि भोजनु अमृतु सारु ॥
Ṫʰaalæ vich ṫæ vasṫoo pa▫ee▫o har bʰojan amriṫ saar.
Upon the plate, three things have been placed; this is the sublime, ambrosial food of the Lord.

ਜਿਤੁ ਖਾਧੈ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀਐ ਪਾਈਐ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
जितु खाधै मनु त्रिपतीऐ पाईऐ मोख दुआरु ॥
Jiṫ kʰaaḋʰæ man ṫaripaṫ▫ee▫æ paa▫ee▫æ mokʰ ḋu▫aar.
Eating this, the mind is satisfied, and the Door of Salvation is found.

ਇਹੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਅਲਭੁ ਹੈ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਲਭੈ ਗੁਰ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
इहु भोजनु अलभु है संतहु लभै गुर वीचारि ॥
Ih bʰojan alabʰ hæ sanṫahu labʰæ gur veechaar.
It is so difficult to obtain this food, O Saints; it is obtained only by contemplating the Guru.

ਏਹ ਮੁਦਾਵਣੀ ਕਿਉ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਕਢੀਐ ਸਦਾ ਰਖੀਐ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
एह मुदावणी किउ विचहु कढीऐ सदा रखीऐ उरि धारि ॥
Éh muḋaavaṇee ki▫o vichahu kadʰee▫æ saḋaa rakʰee▫æ ur ḋʰaar.
Why should we cast this riddle out of our minds? We should keep it ever enshrined in our hearts.

ਏਹ ਮੁਦਾਵਣੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਪਾਈ ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾ ਲਧੀ ਭਾਲਿ ॥
एह मुदावणी सतिगुरू पाई गुरसिखा लधी भालि ॥
Éh muḋaavaṇee saṫguroo paa▫ee gursikʰaa laḋʰee bʰaal.
The True Guru has posed this riddle. The Guru’s Sikhs have found its solution.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਬੁਝਾਏ ਸੁ ਬੁਝਸੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਘਾਲਿ ॥੧॥
नानक जिसु बुझाए सु बुझसी हरि पाइआ गुरमुखि घालि ॥१॥
Naanak jis bujʰaa▫é so bujʰsee har paa▫i▫aa gurmukʰ gʰaal. ||1||
O Nanak! He alone understands this, whom the Lord inspires to understand. The Gurmukhs work hard, and find the Lord. ||1||

ਜੋ ਧੁਰਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਸੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
जो धुरि मेले से मिलि रहे सतिगुर सिउ चितु लाइ ॥
Jo ḋʰur mélé sé mil rahé saṫgur si▫o chiṫ laa▫é.
Those whom the Primal Lord unites, remain in Union with Him; they focus their consciousness on the True Guru.

ਆਪਿ ਵਿਛੋੜੇਨੁ ਸੇ ਵਿਛੁੜੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਖੁਆਇ ॥
आपि विछोड़ेनु से विछुड़े दूजै भाइ खुआइ ॥
Aap vichʰoṛén sé vichʰuṛé ḋoojæ bʰaa▫é kʰu▫aa▫é.
Those whom the Lord Himself separates, remain separated; in the love of duality, they are ruined.

ਨਾਨਕ ਵਿਣੁ ਕਰਮਾ ਕਿਆ ਪਾਈਐ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਮਾਇ ॥੨॥
नानक विणु करमा किआ पाईऐ पूरबि लिखिआ कमाइ ॥२॥
Naanak viṇ karmaa ki▫aa paa▫ee▫æ poorab likʰi▫aa kamaa▫é. ||2||
O Nanak! Without good karma, what can anyone obtain? He earns what he is predestined to receive. ||2||

ਬਹਿ ਸਖੀਆ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗਾਵਣਹਾਰੀਆ ॥
बहि सखीआ जसु गावहि गावणहारीआ ॥
Bahi sakʰee▫aa jas gaavahi gavaṇhaaree▫aa.
Sitting together, the companions sing the Songs of the Lord’s Praises.
|
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਕਉ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀਆ ॥
हरि नामु सलाहिहु नित हरि कउ बलिहारीआ ॥
Har naam salaahihu niṫ har ka▫o balihaaree▫aa.
They praise the Lord’s Name continually; they are a sacrifice to the Lord.

ਜਿਨੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ਤਿਨਾ ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀਆ ॥
जिनी सुणि मंनिआ हरि नाउ तिना हउ वारीआ ॥
Jinee suṇ mani▫aa har naa▫o ṫinaa ha▫o vaaree▫aa.
Those who hear, and believe in the Lord’s Name, to them I am a sacrifice.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖੀਆ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲੁ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਹਾਰੀਆ ॥
गुरमुखीआ हरि मेलु मिलावणहारीआ ॥
Gurmukʰee▫aa har mél milaavaṇhaaree▫aa.
O Lord, let me unite with the Gurmukhs, who are united with You.

ਹਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਵਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਦੇਖਣਹਾਰੀਆ ॥੮॥
हउ बलि जावा दिनु राति गुर देखणहारीआ ॥८॥
Ha▫o bal jaavaa ḋin raaṫ gur ḋækʰaṇhaaree▫aa. ||8||
I am a sacrifice to those who, day and night, behold their Guru. ||8||
