Soohee, Fifth Mehl:
|
ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਦੇਵਾ ॥
रहणु न पावहि सुरि नर देवा ॥
Rahaṇ na paavahi sur nar ḋévaa.
The angelic beings and demi-gods are not permitted to remain here.
|
ਊਠਿ ਸਿਧਾਰੇ ਕਰਿ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਸੇਵਾ ॥੧॥
ऊठि सिधारे करि मुनि जन सेवा ॥१॥
Ootʰ siḋʰaaré kar mun jan sévaa. ||1||
The silent sages and humble servants also must arise and depart. ||1||
|
ਜੀਵਤ ਪੇਖੇ ਜਿਨੑੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
जीवत पेखे जिन्ही हरि हरि धिआइआ ॥
Jeevaṫ pékʰé jinĥee har har ḋʰi▫aa▫i▫aa.
Only those who meditate on the Lord, Har, Har, are seen to live on.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਤਿਨੑੀ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
साधसंगि तिन्ही दरसनु पाइआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Saaḋʰsang ṫinĥee ḋarsan paa▫i▫aa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, they obtain the Blessed Vision of the Lord’s Darshan. ||1||Pause||
|
ਬਾਦਿਸਾਹ ਸਾਹ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਮਰਨਾ ॥
बादिसाह साह वापारी मरना ॥
Baaḋisaah saah vaapaaree marnaa.
Kings, emperors and merchants must die.
|
ਜੋ ਦੀਸੈ ਸੋ ਕਾਲਹਿ ਖਰਨਾ ॥੨॥
जो दीसै सो कालहि खरना ॥२॥
Jo ḋeesæ so kaalėh kʰarnaa. ||2||
Whoever is seen shall be consumed by death. ||2||
|
ਕੂੜੈ ਮੋਹਿ ਲਪਟਿ ਲਪਟਾਨਾ ॥
कूड़ै मोहि लपटि लपटाना ॥
Kooṛæ mohi lapat laptaanaa.
Mortal beings are entangled, clinging to false worldly attachments.
|
ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਤਾ ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਨਾ ॥੩॥
छोडि चलिआ ता फिरि पछुताना ॥३॥
Chʰod chali▫aa ṫaa fir pachʰuṫaanaa. ||3||
And when they must leave them behind, then they regret and grieve. ||3||
|
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਕਰਹੁ ਦਾਤਿ ॥
क्रिपा निधान नानक कउ करहु दाति ॥
Kirpaa niḋʰaan Naanak ka▫o karahu ḋaaṫ.
O Lord, O treasure of mercy, please bless Nanak with this gift,

ਨਾਮੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਜਪੀ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤਿ ॥੪॥੮॥੧੪॥
नामु तेरा जपी दिनु राति ॥४॥८॥१४॥
Naam ṫéraa japee ḋin raaṫ. ||4||8||14||
that he may chant Your Name, day and night. ||4||8||14||

ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੁਮਹਿ ਬਸਾਰੇ ॥
घट घट अंतरि तुमहि बसारे ॥
Gʰat gʰat anṫar ṫumėh basaaré.
You dwell deep within the heart of each and every being.
|
ਸਗਲ ਸਮਗ੍ਰੀ ਸੂਤਿ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
सगल समग्री सूति तुमारे ॥१॥
Sagal samagree sooṫ ṫumaaré. ||1||
The entire universe is strung on Your Thread. ||1||
|
ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਤੂੰ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰੇ ॥
तूं प्रीतम तूं प्रान अधारे ॥
Ṫooⁿ pareeṫam ṫooⁿ paraan aḋʰaaré.
You are my Beloved, the Support of my breath of life.

ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਪੇਖਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਗਸਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
तुम ही पेखि पेखि मनु बिगसारे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ṫum hee pékʰ pékʰ man bigsaaré. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Beholding You, gazing upon You, my mind blossoms forth. ||1||Pause||
|
ਅਨਿਕ ਜੋਨਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਹਾਰੇ ॥
अनिक जोनि भ्रमि भ्रमि भ्रमि हारे ॥
Anik jon bʰaram bʰaram bʰaram haaré.
Wandering, wandering, wandering through countless incarnations, I have grown so weary.
|
ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਅਬ ਸਾਧ ਸੰਗਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
ओट गही अब साध संगारे ॥२॥
Ot gahee ab saaḋʰ sangaaré. ||2||
Now, I hold tight to the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||2||
|
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰੇ ॥
अगम अगोचरु अलख अपारे ॥
Agam agochar alakʰ apaaré.
You are inaccessible, incomprehensible, invisible and infinite.
|
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਿਮਰੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਾਰੇ ॥੩॥੯॥੧੫॥
नानकु सिमरै दिनु रैनारे ॥३॥९॥१५॥
Naanak simræ ḋin rænaaré. ||3||9||15||
Nanak remembers You in meditation, day and night. ||3||9||15||

ਕਵਨ ਕਾਜ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
कवन काज माइआ वडिआई ॥
Kavan kaaj maa▫i▫aa vadi▫aa▫ee.
What is the use of the glory of Maya?
|
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਬਿਨਸਤ ਬਾਰ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥੧॥
जा कउ बिनसत बार न काई ॥१॥
Jaa ka▫o binsaṫ baar na kaa▫ee. ||1||
It disappears in no time at all. ||1||
|
ਇਹੁ ਸੁਪਨਾ ਸੋਵਤ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
इहु सुपना सोवत नही जानै ॥
Ih supnaa sovaṫ nahee jaanæ.
This is a dream, but the sleeper does not know it.
|
ਅਚੇਤ ਬਿਵਸਥਾ ਮਹਿ ਲਪਟਾਨੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
अचेत बिवसथा महि लपटानै ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Achéṫ bivasṫʰaa mėh laptaanæ. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
In his unconscious state, he clings to it. ||1||Pause||
|
ਮਹਾ ਮੋਹਿ ਮੋਹਿਓ ਗਾਵਾਰਾ ॥
महा मोहि मोहिओ गावारा ॥
Mahaa mohi mohi▫o gaavaaraa.
The poor fool is enticed by the great attachments of the world.
|
ਪੇਖਤ ਪੇਖਤ ਊਠਿ ਸਿਧਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
पेखत पेखत ऊठि सिधारा ॥२॥
Pékʰaṫ pékʰaṫ ootʰ siḋʰaaraa. ||2||
Gazing upon them, watching them, he must still arise and depart. ||2||
|
ਊਚ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦਰਬਾਰਾ ॥
ऊच ते ऊच ता का दरबारा ॥
Ooch ṫé ooch ṫaa kaa ḋarbaaraa.
The Royal Court of His Darbaar is the highest of the high.
|
ਕਈ ਜੰਤ ਬਿਨਾਹਿ ਉਪਾਰਾ ॥੩॥
कई जंत बिनाहि उपारा ॥३॥
Ka▫ee janṫ binaahi upaaraa. ||3||
He creates and destroys countless beings. ||3||
|
ਦੂਸਰ ਹੋਆ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਈ ॥
दूसर होआ ना को होई ॥
Ḋoosar ho▫aa naa ko ho▫ee.
There has never been any other, and there shall never be.
|
ਜਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਏਕੋ ਸੋਈ ॥੪॥੧੦॥੧੬॥
जपि नानक प्रभ एको सोई ॥४॥१०॥१६॥
Jap Naanak parabʰ éko so▫ee. ||4||10||16||
O Nanak! Meditate on the One God. ||4||10||16||

ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਹਉ ਜੀਵਾ ॥
सिमरि सिमरि ता कउ हउ जीवा ॥
Simar simar ṫaa ka▫o ha▫o jeevaa.
Meditating, meditating in remembrance of Him, I live.
|
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਤੇਰੇ ਧੋਇ ਧੋਇ ਪੀਵਾ ॥੧॥
चरण कमल तेरे धोइ धोइ पीवा ॥१॥
Charaṇ kamal ṫéré ḋʰo▫é ḋʰo▫é peevaa. ||1||
I wash Your Lotus Feet, and drink the wash water. ||1||
|
ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਰਾ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
सो हरि मेरा अंतरजामी ॥
So har méraa anṫarjaamee.
He is my Lord, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.
|
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
भगत जना कै संगि सुआमी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Bʰagaṫ janaa kæ sang su▫aamee. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
My Lord and Master abides with His humble devotees. ||1||Pause||
|
ਸੁਣਿ ਸੁਣਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਾ ॥
सुणि सुणि अमृत नामु धिआवा ॥
Suṇ suṇ amriṫ naam ḋʰi▫aavaa.
Hearing, hearing Your Ambrosial Naam, I meditate on it.
|
ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਾ ॥੨॥
आठ पहर तेरे गुण गावा ॥२॥
Aatʰ pahar ṫéré guṇ gaavaa. ||2||
Twenty-four hours a day, I sing Your Glorious Praises. ||2||
|
ਪੇਖਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਲੀਲਾ ਮਨਿ ਆਨੰਦਾ ॥
पेखि पेखि लीला मनि आनंदा ॥
Pékʰ pékʰ leelaa man aananḋaa.
Beholding, beholding Your divine play, my mind is in bliss.
|
ਗੁਣ ਅਪਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦਾ ॥੩॥
गुण अपार प्रभ परमानंदा ॥३॥
Guṇ apaar parabʰ parmaananḋaa. ||3||
Your Glorious Virtues are infinite, O God, O Lord of supreme bliss. ||3||
|
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਿਮਰਨਿ ਕਛੁ ਭਉ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥
जा कै सिमरनि कछु भउ न बिआपै ॥
Jaa kæ simran kachʰ bʰa▫o na bi▫aapæ.
Meditating in remembrance of Him, fear cannot touch me.
|
ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਜਾਪੈ ॥੪॥੧੧॥੧੭॥
सदा सदा नानक हरि जापै ॥४॥११॥१७॥
Saḋaa saḋaa Naanak har jaapæ. ||4||11||17||
Forever and ever, Nanak meditates on the Lord. ||4||11||17||

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਚਨਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
गुर कै बचनि रिदै धिआनु धारी ॥
Gur kæ bachan riḋæ ḋʰi▫aan ḋʰaaree.
Within my heart, I meditate on the Word of the Guru’s Teachings.
|
ਰਸਨਾ ਜਾਪੁ ਜਪਉ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
रसना जापु जपउ बनवारी ॥१॥
Rasnaa jaap japa▫o banvaaree. ||1||
With my tongue, I chant the Chant of the Lord. ||1||
|
ਸਫਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥
सफल मूरति दरसन बलिहारी ॥
Safal mooraṫ ḋarsan balihaaree.
The image of His vision is fruitful; I am a sacrifice to it.
|
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
चरण कमल मन प्राण अधारी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Charaṇ kamal man paraaṇ aḋʰaaree. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
His Lotus Feet are the Support of the mind, the Support of the very breath of life. ||1||Pause||
|
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ॥
साधसंगि जनम मरण निवारी ॥
Saaḋʰsang janam maraṇ nivaaree.
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, The cycle of birth and death has ended.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਿ ਕਰਨ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
अमृत कथा सुणि करन अधारी ॥२॥
Amriṫ kaṫʰaa suṇ karan aḋʰaaree. ||2||
To hear the Ambrosial Sermon is the support of my ears. ||2||
|
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਤਜਾਰੀ ॥
काम क्रोध लोभ मोह तजारी ॥
Kaam kroḋʰ lobʰ moh ṫajaaree.
I have renounced sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment.

ਦ੍ਰਿੜੁ ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਸੁਚਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
द्रिड़ु नाम दानु इसनानु सुचारी ॥३॥
Ḋariṛ naam ḋaan isnaan suchaaree. ||3||
I have enshrined the Naam within myself, with charity, true cleansing and righteous conduct. ||3||
|
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
कहु नानक इहु ततु बीचारी ॥
Kaho Naanak ih ṫaṫ beechaaree.
Says Nanak, I have contemplated this essence of reality;

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੧੮॥
राम नाम जपि पारि उतारी ॥४॥१२॥१८॥
Raam naam jap paar uṫaaree. ||4||12||18||
chanting the Name of the Lord, I am carried across. ||4||12||18||

ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਗਨ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ॥
लोभि मोहि मगन अपराधी ॥
Lobʰ mohi magan apraaḋʰee.
The sinner is absorbed in greed and emotional attachment.
