ਐਸਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਦੇਉ ॥
ऐसा नामु निरंजन देउ ॥
Æsaa naam niranjan ḋé▫o.
Such is the Name of the Immaculate, Divine Lord.

ਹਉ ਜਾਚਿਕੁ ਤੂ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
हउ जाचिकु तू अलख अभेउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ha▫o jaachik ṫoo alakʰ abʰé▫o. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
I am just a beggar; You are invisible and unknowable. ||1||Pause||
|
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਧਰਕਟੀ ਨਾਰਿ ॥
माइआ मोहु धरकटी नारि ॥
Maa▫i▫aa moh ḋʰarkatee naar.
Love of Maya is like a cursed woman,
|
ਭੂੰਡੀ ਕਾਮਣਿ ਕਾਮਣਿਆਰਿ ॥
भूंडी कामणि कामणिआरि ॥
Bʰooⁿdee kaamaṇ kaamaṇi▫aar.
ugly, dirty and promiscuous.
|
ਰਾਜੁ ਰੂਪੁ ਝੂਠਾ ਦਿਨ ਚਾਰਿ ॥
राजु रूपु झूठा दिन चारि ॥
Raaj roop jʰootʰaa ḋin chaar.
Power and beauty are false, and last for only a few days.
|
ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਿ ॥੨॥
नामु मिलै चानणु अंधिआरि ॥२॥
Naam milæ chaanaṇ anḋʰi▫aar. ||2||
But when one is blessed with the Naam, the darkness within is illuminated. ||2||
|
ਚਖਿ ਛੋਡੀ ਸਹਸਾ ਨਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥
चखि छोडी सहसा नही कोइ ॥
Chakʰ chʰodee sahsaa nahee ko▫é.
I tasted Maya and renounced it, and now, I have no doubts.
|
ਬਾਪੁ ਦਿਸੈ ਵੇਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
बापु दिसै वेजाति न होइ ॥
Baap ḋisæ véjaaṫ na ho▫é.
One whose father is known, cannot be illegitimate.
|
ਏਕੇ ਕਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਭਉ ਕੋਇ ॥
एके कउ नाही भउ कोइ ॥
Éké ka▫o naahee bʰa▫o ko▫é.
One who belongs to the One Lord, has no fear.
|
ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੩॥
करता करे करावै सोइ ॥३॥
Karṫaa karé karaavæ so▫é. ||3||
The Creator acts, and causes all to act. ||3||
|
ਸਬਦਿ ਮੁਏ ਮਨੁ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥
सबदि मुए मनु मन ते मारिआ ॥
Sabaḋ mu▫é man man ṫé maari▫aa.
One who dies in the Word of the Shabad conquers his mind, through his mind.

ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹੇ ਮਨੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਧਾਰਿਆ ॥
ठाकि रहे मनु साचै धारिआ ॥
Tʰaak rahé man saachæ ḋʰaari▫aa.
Keeping his mind restrained, he enshrines the True Lord within his heart.

ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
अवरु न सूझै गुर कउ वारिआ ॥
Avar na soojʰæ gur ka▫o vaari▫aa.
He does not know any other, and he is a sacrifice to the Guru.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਿਆ ॥੪॥੩॥
नानक नामि रते निसतारिआ ॥४॥३॥
Naanak naam raṫé nisṫaari▫aa. ||4||3||
O Nanak! Attuned to the Naam, he is emancipated. ||4||3||

ਗੁਰ ਬਚਨੀ ਮਨੁ ਸਹਜ ਧਿਆਨੇ ॥
गुर बचनी मनु सहज धिआने ॥
Gur bachnee man sahj ḋʰi▫aané.
Through the Word of the Guru’s Teachings, the mind intuitively meditates on the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨੇ ॥
हरि कै रंगि रता मनु माने ॥
Har kæ rang raṫaa man maané.
Imbued with the Lord’s Love, the mind is satisfied.
|
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲੇ ਬਉਰਾਨੇ ॥
मनमुख भरमि भुले बउराने ॥
Manmukʰ bʰaram bʰulé ba▫uraané.
The insane, self-willed Manmukhs wander around, deluded by doubt.
|
ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਰਹੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਛਾਨੇ ॥੧॥
हरि बिनु किउ रहीऐ गुर सबदि पछाने ॥१॥
Har bin ki▫o rahee▫æ gur sabaḋ pachʰaané. ||1||
Without the Lord, how can anyone survive? Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, He is realized. ||1||
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਕੈਸੇ ਜੀਵਉ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥
बिनु दरसन कैसे जीवउ मेरी माई ॥
Bin ḋarsan kæsé jeeva▫o méree maa▫ee.
Without the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, how can I live, O my mother?

ਹਰਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਜੀਅਰਾ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਖਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਬੂਝ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
हरि बिनु जीअरा रहि न सकै खिनु सतिगुरि बूझ बुझाई ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Har bin jee▫araa rėh na sakæ kʰin saṫgur boojʰ bujʰaa▫ee. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Without the Lord, my soul cannot survive, even for an instant; the True Guru has helped me understand this. ||1||Pause||
|
ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਹਉ ਮਰਉ ਦੁਖਾਲੀ ॥
मेरा प्रभु बिसरै हउ मरउ दुखाली ॥
Méraa parabʰ bisræ ha▫o mara▫o ḋukʰaalee.
Forgetting my God, I die in pain.

ਸਾਸਿ ਗਿਰਾਸਿ ਜਪਉ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਲੀ ॥
सासि गिरासि जपउ अपुने हरि भाली ॥
Saas giraas japa▫o apuné har bʰaalee.
With each breath and morsel of food, I meditate on my Lord, and seek Him.

ਸਦ ਬੈਰਾਗਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਹਾਲੀ ॥
सद बैरागनि हरि नामु निहाली ॥
Saḋ bæraagan har naam nihaalee.
I remain always detached, but I am enraptured with the Lord’s Name.
|
ਅਬ ਜਾਨੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲੀ ॥੨॥
अब जाने गुरमुखि हरि नाली ॥२॥
Ab jaané gurmukʰ har naalee. ||2||
Now, as Gurmukh, I know that the Lord is always with me. ||2||
|
ਅਕਥ ਕਥਾ ਕਹੀਐ ਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥
अकथ कथा कहीऐ गुर भाइ ॥
Akaṫʰ kaṫʰaa kahee▫æ gur bʰaa▫é.
The Unspoken Speech is spoken by the Will of the Guru.

ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਦੇਇ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥
प्रभु अगम अगोचरु देइ दिखाइ ॥
Parabʰ agam agochar ḋé▫é ḋikʰaa▫é.
He shows us that God is unapproachable and unfathomable.
|
ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਿਆ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
बिनु गुर करणी किआ कार कमाइ ॥
Bin gur karṇee ki▫aa kaar kamaa▫é.
Without the Guru, what lifestyle could we practice, and what work could we do?

ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਟਿ ਚਲੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੩॥
हउमै मेटि चलै गुर सबदि समाइ ॥३॥
Ha▫umæ mét chalæ gur sabaḋ samaa▫é. ||3||
Eradicating egotism, and walking in harmony with the Guru’s Will, I am absorbed in the Word of the Shabad. ||3||
|
ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਵਿਛੁੜੈ ਖੋਟੀ ਰਾਸਿ ॥
मनमुखु विछुड़ै खोटी रासि ॥
Manmukʰ vichʰuṛæ kʰotee raas.
The self-willed Manmukhs are separated from the Lord, gathering false wealth.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ॥
गुरमुखि नामि मिलै साबासि ॥
Gurmukʰ naam milæ saabaas.
The Gurmukhs are celebrated with the glory of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਦਾਸਨਿ ਦਾਸ ॥
हरि किरपा धारी दासनि दास ॥
Har kirpaa ḋʰaaree ḋaasan ḋaas.
The Lord has showered His Mercy upon me, and made me the slave of His slaves.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੪॥
जन नानक हरि नाम धनु रासि ॥४॥४॥
Jan Naanak har naam ḋʰan raas. ||4||4||
The Name of the Lord is the wealth and capital of servant Nanak. ||4||4||

ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਖਾਇਆ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਸੋਇਆ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਕਾਪੜੁ ਅੰਗਿ ਚੜਾਇਆ ॥
ध्रिगु ध्रिगु खाइआ ध्रिगु ध्रिगु सोइआ ध्रिगु ध्रिगु कापड़ु अंगि चड़ाइआ ॥
Ḋʰarig ḋʰarig kʰaa▫i▫aa ḋʰarig ḋʰarig so▫i▫aa ḋʰarig ḋʰarig kaapaṛ ang chaṛaa▫i▫aa.
Cursed, cursed is the food; cursed, cursed is the sleep; cursed, cursed are the clothes worn on the body.

ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਕੁਟੰਬ ਸਹਿਤ ਸਿਉ ਜਿਤੁ ਹੁਣਿ ਖਸਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
ध्रिगु सरीरु कुट्मब सहित सिउ जितु हुणि खसमु न पाइआ ॥
Ḋʰarig sareer kutamb sahiṫ si▫o jiṫ huṇ kʰasam na paa▫i▫aa.
Cursed is the body, along with family and friends, when one does not find his Lord and Master in this life.

ਪਉੜੀ ਛੁੜਕੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਹਾਥਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਅਹਿਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
पउड़ी छुड़की फिरि हाथि न आवै अहिला जनमु गवाइआ ॥१॥
Pa▫oṛee chʰuṛkee fir haaṫʰ na aavæ ahilaa janam gavaa▫i▫aa. ||1||
He misses the step of the ladder, and this opportunity will not come into his hands again; his life is wasted, uselessly. ||1||
|
ਦੂਜਾ ਭਾਉ ਨ ਦੇਈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਣਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਣ ਵਿਸਾਰੇ ॥
दूजा भाउ न देई लिव लागणि जिनि हरि के चरण विसारे ॥
Ḋoojaa bʰaa▫o na ḋé▫ee liv laagaṇ jin har ké charaṇ visaaré.
The love of duality does not allow him to lovingly focus his attention on the Lord; he forgets the Feet of the Lord.

ਜਗਜੀਵਨ ਦਾਤਾ ਜਨ ਸੇਵਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਤੈ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
जगजीवन दाता जन सेवक तेरे तिन के तै दूख निवारे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Jagjeevan ḋaaṫaa jan sévak ṫéré ṫin ké ṫæ ḋookʰ nivaaré. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
O Life of the World, O Great Giver, you eradicate the sorrows of your humble servants. ||1||Pause||
|
ਤੂ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਦਇਆਪਤਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਕਿਆ ਏਹਿ ਜੰਤ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ॥
तू दइआलु दइआपति दाता किआ एहि जंत विचारे ॥
Ṫoo ḋa▫i▫aal ḋa▫i▫aapaṫ ḋaaṫaa ki▫aa éhi janṫ vichaaré.
You are Merciful, O Great Giver of Mercy; what are these poor beings?

ਮੁਕਤ ਬੰਧ ਸਭਿ ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਐਸਾ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੇ ॥
मुकत बंध सभि तुझ ते होए ऐसा आखि वखाणे ॥
Mukaṫ banḋʰ sabʰ ṫujʰ ṫé ho▫é æsaa aakʰ vakʰaaṇé.
All are liberated or placed into bondage by You; this is all one can say.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਬੰਧ ਵਿਚਾਰੇ ॥੨॥
गुरमुखि होवै सो मुकतु कहीऐ मनमुख बंध विचारे ॥२॥
Gurmukʰ hovæ so mukaṫ kahee▫æ manmukʰ banḋʰ vichaaré. ||2||
One who becomes Gurmukh is said to be liberated, while the poor self-willed Manmukhs are in bondage. ||2||
|
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਜਿਸੁ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲੇ ॥
सो जनु मुकतु जिसु एक लिव लागी सदा रहै हरि नाले ॥
So jan mukaṫ jis ék liv laagee saḋaa rahæ har naalé.
He alone is liberated who lovingly focuses his attention on the One Lord, always dwelling with the Lord.

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਗਹਣ ਗਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਸਚੈ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
तिन की गहण गति कही न जाई सचै आपि सवारे ॥
Ṫin kee gahaṇ gaṫ kahee na jaa▫ee sachæ aap savaaré.
His depth and condition cannot be described. The True Lord Himself embellishes him.
