ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਲੋਭਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਨਾ ॥
कामि क्रोधि लोभि मोहि मनु लीना ॥
Kaam kroḋʰ lobʰ mohi man leenaa.
The mind is engrossed in sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment.

ਬੰਧਨ ਕਾਟਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਨਾ ॥੨॥
बंधन काटि मुकति गुरि कीना ॥२॥
Banḋʰan kaat mukaṫ gur keenaa. ||2||
Breaking my bonds, the Guru has liberated me. ||2||
|
ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਕਰਤ ਜਨਮਿ ਫੁਨਿ ਮੂਆ ॥
दुख सुख करत जनमि फुनि मूआ ॥
Ḋukʰ sukʰ karaṫ janam fun moo▫aa.
Experiencing pain and pleasure, one is born, only to die again.

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਗੁਰਿ ਆਸ੍ਰਮੁ ਦੀਆ ॥੩॥
चरन कमल गुरि आस्रमु दीआ ॥३॥
Charan kamal gur aasram ḋee▫aa. ||3||
The Lotus Feet of the Guru bring me peace and shelter. ||3||
|
ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਬੂਡਤ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
अगनि सागर बूडत संसारा ॥
Agan saagar boodaṫ sansaaraa.
The world is drowning in the ocean of fire.
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਬਾਹ ਪਕਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੩॥੮॥
नानक बाह पकरि सतिगुरि निसतारा ॥४॥३॥८॥
Naanak baah pakar saṫgur nisṫaaraa. ||4||3||8||
O Nanak! Holding me by the arm, the True Guru has saved me. ||4||3||8||

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਅਰਪਉ ਸਭੁ ਅਪਨਾ ॥
तनु मनु धनु अरपउ सभु अपना ॥
Ṫan man ḋʰan arpa▫o sabʰ apnaa.
Body, mind, wealth and everything, I surrender to my Lord.

ਕਵਨ ਸੁ ਮਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਨਾ ॥੧॥
कवन सु मति जितु हरि हरि जपना ॥१॥
Kavan so maṫ jiṫ har har japnaa. ||1||
What is that wisdom, by which I may come to chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har? ||1||
|
ਕਰਿ ਆਸਾ ਆਇਓ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਾਗਨਿ ॥
करि आसा आइओ प्रभ मागनि ॥
Kar aasaa aa▫i▫o parabʰ maagan.
Nurturing hope, I have come to beg from God.

ਤੁਮੑ ਪੇਖਤ ਸੋਭਾ ਮੇਰੈ ਆਗਨਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
तुम्ह पेखत सोभा मेरै आगनि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Ṫumĥ pékʰaṫ sobʰaa méræ aagan. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Gazing upon You, the courtyard of my heart is embellished. ||1||Pause||
|
ਅਨਿਕ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਉ ॥
अनिक जुगति करि बहुतु बीचारउ ॥
Anik jugaṫ kar bahuṫ beechaara▫o.
Trying several methods, I reflect deeply upon the Lord.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਇਸੁ ਮਨਹਿ ਉਧਾਰਉ ॥੨॥
साधसंगि इसु मनहि उधारउ ॥२॥
Saaḋʰsang is manėh uḋʰaara▫o. ||2||
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, this mind is saved. ||2||
|
ਮਤਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਚਤੁਰਾਈ ॥
मति बुधि सुरति नाही चतुराई ॥
Maṫ buḋʰ suraṫ naahee chaṫuraa▫ee.
I have neither intelligence, wisdom, common sense nor cleverness.
|
ਤਾ ਮਿਲੀਐ ਜਾ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਈ ॥੩॥
ता मिलीऐ जा लए मिलाई ॥३॥
Ṫaa milee▫æ jaa la▫é milaa▫ee. ||3||
I meet You, only if You lead me to meet You. ||3||
|
ਨੈਨ ਸੰਤੋਖੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
नैन संतोखे प्रभ दरसनु पाइआ ॥
Næn sanṫokʰé parabʰ ḋarsan paa▫i▫aa.
My eyes are content, gazing upon the Blessed Vision of God’s Darshan.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਫਲੁ ਸੋ ਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੪॥੯॥
कहु नानक सफलु सो आइआ ॥४॥४॥९॥
Kaho Naanak safal so aa▫i▫aa. ||4||4||9||
Says Nanak, such a life is fruitful and rewarding. ||4||4||9||

ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਸਾਥਿ ਨ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
मात पिता सुत साथि न माइआ ॥
Maaṫ piṫaa suṫ saaṫʰ na maa▫i▫aa.
Mother, father, children and the wealth of Maya, will not go along with you.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਸਭੁ ਦੂਖੁ ਮਿਟਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
साधसंगि सभु दूखु मिटाइआ ॥१॥
Saaḋʰsang sabʰ ḋookʰ mitaa▫i▫aa. ||1||
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, all pain is dispelled. ||1||
|
ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਭ ਮਹਿ ਆਪੇ ॥
रवि रहिआ प्रभु सभ महि आपे ॥
Rav rahi▫aa parabʰ sabʰ mėh aapé.
God Himself is pervading, and permeating all.
|
ਹਰਿ ਜਪੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਵਿਆਪੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
हरि जपु रसना दुखु न विआपे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Har jap rasnaa ḋukʰ na vi▫aapé. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Chant the Name of the Lord with your tongue, and pain will not afflict you. ||1||Pause||
|
ਤਿਖਾ ਭੂਖ ਬਹੁ ਤਪਤਿ ਵਿਆਪਿਆ ॥
तिखा भूख बहु तपति विआपिआ ॥
Ṫikʰaa bʰookʰ baho ṫapaṫ vi▫aapi▫aa.
One who is afflicted by the terrible fire of thirst and desire,
|
ਸੀਤਲ ਭਏ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਜਾਪਿਆ ॥੨॥
सीतल भए हरि हरि जसु जापिआ ॥२॥
Seeṫal bʰa▫é har har jas jaapi▫aa. ||2||
becomes cool, chanting the Praises of the Lord, Har, Har. ||2||
|
ਕੋਟਿ ਜਤਨ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
कोटि जतन संतोखु न पाइआ ॥
Kot jaṫan sanṫokʰ na paa▫i▫aa.
By millions of efforts, peace is not obtained;
|
ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
मनु त्रिपताना हरि गुण गाइआ ॥३॥
Man ṫaripṫaanaa har guṇ gaa▫i▫aa. ||3||
the mind is satisfied only by singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||3||
|
ਦੇਹੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
देहु भगति प्रभ अंतरजामी ॥
Ḋéh bʰagaṫ parabʰ anṫarjaamee.
Please bless me with devotion, O God, O Searcher of hearts.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕੀ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥੪॥੫॥੧੦॥
नानक की बेनंती सुआमी ॥४॥५॥१०॥
Naanak kee bénanṫee su▫aamee. ||4||5||10||
This is Nanak’s prayer, O Lord and Master. ||4||5||10||

Gur pooraa vadbʰaagee paa▫ee▫æ.
By great good fortune, the Perfect Guru is found.
|
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧॥
मिलि साधू हरि नामु धिआईऐ ॥१॥
Mil saaḋʰoo har naam ḋʰi▫aa▫ee▫æ. ||1||
Meeting with the Holy Saints, meditate on the Name of the Lord. ||1||
|
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਨਾ ॥
पारब्रहम प्रभ तेरी सरना ॥
Paarbarahm parabʰ ṫéree sarnaa.
O Supreme Lord God, I seek Your Sanctuary.
|
ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਕਾਟੈ ਭਜੁ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਰਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
किलबिख काटै भजु गुर के चरना ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Kilbikʰ kaatæ bʰaj gur ké charnaa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Meditating on the Guru’s Feet, sinful mistakes are erased. ||1||Pause||
|
ਅਵਰਿ ਕਰਮ ਸਭਿ ਲੋਕਾਚਾਰ ॥
अवरि करम सभि लोकाचार ॥
Avar karam sabʰ lokaachaar.
All other rituals are just worldly affairs;
|
ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਇ ਉਧਾਰ ॥੨॥
मिलि साधू संगि होइ उधार ॥२॥
Mil saaḋʰoo sang ho▫é uḋʰaar. ||2||
joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, one is saved. ||2||
|
ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥
सिंम्रिति सासत बेद बीचारे ॥
Simriṫ saasaṫ béḋ beechaaré.
One may contemplate the Smritis, Shastras and Vedas,
|
ਜਪੀਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੇ ॥੩॥
जपीऐ नामु जितु पारि उतारे ॥३॥
Japee▫æ naam jiṫ paar uṫaaré. ||3||
but only by chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is one saved and carried across. ||3||
|
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੀਐ ॥
जन नानक कउ प्रभ किरपा करीऐ ॥
Jan Naanak ka▫o parabʰ kirpaa karee▫æ.
Have Mercy upon servant Nanak, O God,
|
ਸਾਧੂ ਧੂਰਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਨਿਸਤਰੀਐ ॥੪॥੬॥੧੧॥
साधू धूरि मिलै निसतरीऐ ॥४॥६॥११॥
Saaḋʰoo ḋʰoor milæ nisṫaree▫æ. ||4||6||11||
and bless him with the dust of the feet of the Holy, that he may be emancipated. ||4||6||11||

ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਰਿਦੇ ਮਹਿ ਚੀਨਾ ॥
गुर का सबदु रिदे महि चीना ॥
Gur kaa sabaḋ riḋé mėh cheenaa.
I contemplate the Word of the Guru’s Shabad within my heart;

ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰਨ ਆਸੀਨਾ ॥੧॥
सगल मनोरथ पूरन आसीना ॥१॥
Sagal manoraṫʰ pooran aaseenaa. ||1||
all my hopes and desires are fulfilled. ||1||
|
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਾ ਮੁਖੁ ਊਜਲੁ ਕੀਨਾ ॥
संत जना का मुखु ऊजलु कीना ॥
Sanṫ janaa kaa mukʰ oojal keenaa.
The faces of the humble Saints are radiant and bright;
|
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
करि किरपा अपुना नामु दीना ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Kar kirpaa apunaa naam ḋeenaa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
the Lord has mercifully blessed them with the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
|
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਤੇ ਕਰੁ ਗਹਿ ਲੀਨਾ ॥
अंध कूप ते करु गहि लीना ॥
Anḋʰ koop ṫé kar gėh leenaa.
Holding them by the hand, He has lifted them up out of the deep, dark pit,
|
ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਾਰੁ ਜਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੀਨਾ ॥੨॥
जै जै कारु जगति प्रगटीना ॥२॥
Jæ jæ kaar jagaṫ pargateenaa. ||2||
and their victory is celebrated throughout the world. ||2||
|
ਨੀਚਾ ਤੇ ਊਚ ਊਨ ਪੂਰੀਨਾ ॥
नीचा ते ऊच ऊन पूरीना ॥
Neechaa ṫé ooch oon pooreenaa.
He elevates and exalts the lowly, and fills the empty.
|
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਹਾ ਰਸੁ ਲੀਨਾ ॥੩॥
अमृत नामु महा रसु लीना ॥३॥
Amriṫ naam mahaa ras leenaa. ||3||
They receive the supreme, sublime essence of the Ambrosial Naam. ||3||
|
ਮਨ ਤਨ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਪਾਪ ਜਲਿ ਖੀਨਾ ॥
मन तन निरमल पाप जलि खीना ॥
Man ṫan nirmal paap jal kʰeenaa.
The mind and body are made immaculate and pure, and sins are burnt to ashes.
|
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਏ ਪ੍ਰਸੀਨਾ ॥੪॥੭॥੧੨॥
कहु नानक प्रभ भए प्रसीना ॥४॥७॥१२॥
Kaho Naanak parabʰ bʰa▫é parseenaa. ||4||7||12||
Says Nanak, God is pleased with me. ||4||7||12||

All desires are fulfilled, O my friend,
