ਧੰਨੁ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਧੰਨੁ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥
धंनु गुपाल धंनु गुरदेव ॥
Ḋʰan gupaal ḋʰan gurḋév.
Blessed is the Lord of the World. Blessed is the Divine Guru.
|
ਧੰਨੁ ਅਨਾਦਿ ਭੂਖੇ ਕਵਲੁ ਟਹਕੇਵ ॥
धंनु अनादि भूखे कवलु टहकेव ॥
Ḋʰan anaaḋ bʰookʰé kaval tėhkév.
Blessed is that grain, by which the heart-lotus of the hungry blossoms forth.

ਧਨੁ ਓਇ ਸੰਤ ਜਿਨ ਐਸੀ ਜਾਨੀ ॥
धनु ओइ संत जिन ऐसी जानी ॥
Ḋʰan o▫é sanṫ jin æsee jaanee.
Blessed are those Saints, who know this.

ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਮਿਲਿਬੋ ਸਾਰਿੰਗਪਾਨੀ ॥੧॥
तिन कउ मिलिबो सारिंगपानी ॥१॥
Ṫin ka▫o milibo saringpaanee. ||1||
Meeting with them, one meets the Lord, the Sustainer of the World. ||1||
|
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਅਨਾਦਿ ॥
आदि पुरख ते होइ अनादि ॥
Aaḋ purakʰ ṫé ho▫é anaaḋ.
This grain comes from the Primal Lord God.
|
ਜਪੀਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਨ ਕੈ ਸਾਦਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
जपीऐ नामु अंन कै सादि ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Japee▫æ naam ann kæ saaḋ. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
One chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord, only when he tastes this grain. ||1||Pause||
|
ਜਪੀਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੀਐ ਅੰਨੁ ॥
जपीऐ नामु जपीऐ अंनु ॥
Japee▫æ naam japee▫æ ann.
Meditate on the Naam, and meditate on this grain.
|
ਅੰਭੈ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਨੀਕਾ ਵੰਨੁ ॥
अ्मभै कै संगि नीका वंनु ॥
Ambʰæ kæ sang neekaa vann.
Mixed with water, its taste becomes sublime.
|
ਅੰਨੈ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜੋ ਨਰ ਹੋਵਹਿ ॥
अंनै बाहरि जो नर होवहि ॥
Annæ baahar jo nar hovėh.
One who abstains from this grain,
|
ਤੀਨਿ ਭਵਨ ਮਹਿ ਅਪਨੀ ਖੋਵਹਿ ॥੨॥
तीनि भवन महि अपनी खोवहि ॥२॥
Ṫeen bʰavan mėh apnee kʰovėh. ||2||
loses his honor in the three worlds. ||2||
|
ਛੋਡਹਿ ਅੰਨੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਪਾਖੰਡ ॥
छोडहि अंनु करहि पाखंड ॥
Chʰodėh ann karahi pakʰand.
One who discards this grain, is practicing hypocrisy.
|
ਨਾ ਸੋਹਾਗਨਿ ਨਾ ਓਹਿ ਰੰਡ ॥
ना सोहागनि ना ओहि रंड ॥
Naa sohaagan naa ohi rand.
She is neither a happy soul-bride, nor a widow.
|
ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਬਕਤੇ ਦੂਧਾਧਾਰੀ ॥
जग महि बकते दूधाधारी ॥
Jag mėh bakṫé ḋooḋʰaaḋʰaaree.
Those who claim in this world that they live on milk alone,
|
ਗੁਪਤੀ ਖਾਵਹਿ ਵਟਿਕਾ ਸਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
गुपती खावहि वटिका सारी ॥३॥
Gupṫee kʰaavėh vatikaa saaree. ||3||
secretly eat whole loads of food. ||3||
|
ਅੰਨੈ ਬਿਨਾ ਨ ਹੋਇ ਸੁਕਾਲੁ ॥
अंनै बिना न होइ सुकालु ॥
Annæ binaa na ho▫é sukaal.
Without this grain, time does not pass in peace.
|
ਤਜਿਐ ਅੰਨਿ ਨ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਪਾਲੁ ॥
तजिऐ अंनि न मिलै गुपालु ॥
Ṫaji▫æ ann na milæ gupaal.
Forsaking this grain, one does not meet the Lord of the World.
|
ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਹਮ ਐਸੇ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥
कहु कबीर हम ऐसे जानिआ ॥
Kaho Kabeer ham æsé jaani▫aa.
Says Kabir, this I know:

ਧੰਨੁ ਅਨਾਦਿ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥੪॥੮॥੧੧॥
धंनु अनादि ठाकुर मनु मानिआ ॥४॥८॥११॥
Ḋʰan anaaḋ tʰaakur man maani▫aa. ||4||8||11||
blessed is that grain, which brings faith in the Lord and Master to the mind. ||4||8||11||

Ik▫oaⁿkaar saṫgur parsaaḋ.
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਅਸੁਮੇਧ ਜਗਨੇ ॥
असुमेध जगने ॥
Asuméḋʰ jagné.
The ritual sacrifice of horses,
|
ਤੁਲਾ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਾਨੇ ॥
तुला पुरख दाने ॥
Ṫulaa purakʰ ḋaané.
giving one’s weight in gold to charities,
|
ਪ੍ਰਾਗ ਇਸਨਾਨੇ ॥੧॥
प्राग इसनाने ॥१॥
Paraag isnaané. ||1||
and ceremonial cleansing baths -||1||
|
ਤਉ ਨ ਪੁਜਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਨਾਮਾ ॥
तउ न पुजहि हरि कीरति नामा ॥
Ṫa▫o na pujėh har keeraṫ naamaa.
These are not equal to singing the Praises of the Lord’s Name.

ਅਪੁਨੇ ਰਾਮਹਿ ਭਜੁ ਰੇ ਮਨ ਆਲਸੀਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
अपुने रामहि भजु रे मन आलसीआ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Apuné raamėh bʰaj ré man aalsee▫aa. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Meditate on your Lord, you lazy man! ||1||Pause||
|
ਗਇਆ ਪਿੰਡੁ ਭਰਤਾ ॥
गइआ पिंडु भरता ॥
Ga▫i▫aa pind bʰarṫaa.
Offering sweet rice at Gaya,
|
ਬਨਾਰਸਿ ਅਸਿ ਬਸਤਾ ॥
बनारसि असि बसता ॥
Banaaras as basṫaa.
living on the riverbanks at Benares,
|
ਮੁਖਿ ਬੇਦ ਚਤੁਰ ਪੜਤਾ ॥੨॥
मुखि बेद चतुर पड़ता ॥२॥
Mukʰ béḋ chaṫur paṛ▫ṫaa. ||2||
reciting the four Vedas by heart;||2||
|
ਸਗਲ ਧਰਮ ਅਛਿਤਾ ॥
सगल धरम अछिता ॥
Sagal ḋʰaram achʰiṫaa.
Completing all religious rituals,
|
ਗੁਰ ਗਿਆਨ ਇੰਦ੍ਰੀ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਤਾ ॥
गुर गिआन इंद्री द्रिड़ता ॥
Gur gi▫aan inḋree ḋariṛ▫ṫaa.
restraining sexual passion by the spiritual wisdom given by the Guru,
|
ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮ ਸਹਿਤ ਰਹਤਾ ॥੩॥
खटु करम सहित रहता ॥३॥
Kʰat karam sahiṫ rahṫaa. ||3||
and performing the six rituals;||3||
|
ਸਿਵਾ ਸਕਤਿ ਸੰਬਾਦੰ ॥
सिवा सकति स्मबादं ॥
Sivaa sakaṫ sambaaḋaⁿ.
Expounding on Shiva and Shakti -
|
ਮਨ ਛੋਡਿ ਛੋਡਿ ਸਗਲ ਭੇਦੰ ॥
मन छोडि छोडि सगल भेदं ॥
Man chʰod chʰod sagal bʰéḋaⁿ.
O man, renounce and abandon all these things.
|
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਗੋਬਿੰਦੰ ॥
सिमरि सिमरि गोबिंदं ॥
Simar simar gobinḋaⁿ.
Meditate, meditate in remembrance of the Lord of the Universe.
|
ਭਜੁ ਨਾਮਾ ਤਰਸਿ ਭਵ ਸਿੰਧੰ ॥੪॥੧॥
भजु नामा तरसि भव सिंधं ॥४॥१॥
Bʰaj naamaa ṫaras bʰav sinḋʰaⁿ. ||4||1||
Meditate, O Namdev, and cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||4||1||

ਨਾਦ ਭ੍ਰਮੇ ਜੈਸੇ ਮਿਰਗਾਏ ॥
नाद भ्रमे जैसे मिरगाए ॥
Naaḋ bʰaramé jæsé mirgaa▫é.
The deer is lured by the sound of the hunter’s bell;
|
ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਤਜੇ ਵਾ ਕੋ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਏ ॥੧॥
प्रान तजे वा को धिआनु न जाए ॥१॥
Paraan ṫajé vaa ko ḋʰi▫aan na jaa▫é. ||1||
it loses its life, but it cannot stop thinking about it. ||1||
|
ਐਸੇ ਰਾਮਾ ਐਸੇ ਹੇਰਉ ॥
ऐसे रामा ऐसे हेरउ ॥
Æsé raamaa æsé héra▫o.
In the same way, I look upon my Lord.
|
ਰਾਮੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਅਨਤ ਨ ਫੇਰਉ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
रामु छोडि चितु अनत न फेरउ ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Raam chʰod chiṫ anaṫ na féra▫o. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
I will not abandon my Lord, and turn my thoughts to another. ||1||Pause||
|
ਜਿਉ ਮੀਨਾ ਹੇਰੈ ਪਸੂਆਰਾ ॥
जिउ मीना हेरै पसूआरा ॥
Ji▫o meenaa héræ pasoo▫aaraa.
As the fisherman looks upon the fish,
|
ਸੋਨਾ ਗਢਤੇ ਹਿਰੈ ਸੁਨਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
सोना गढते हिरै सुनारा ॥२॥
Sonaa gadʰ▫ṫé hiræ sunaaraa. ||2||
and the goldsmith looks upon the gold he fashions;||2||
|
ਜਿਉ ਬਿਖਈ ਹੇਰੈ ਪਰ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
जिउ बिखई हेरै पर नारी ॥
Ji▫o bikʰ▫ee héræ par naaree.
As the man driven by sex looks upon another man’s wife,
|
ਕਉਡਾ ਡਾਰਤ ਹਿਰੈ ਜੁਆਰੀ ॥੩॥
कउडा डारत हिरै जुआरी ॥३॥
Ka▫udaa daaraṫ hiræ ju▫aaree. ||3||
and the gambler looks upon the throwing of the dice -||3||
|
ਜਹ ਜਹ ਦੇਖਉ ਤਹ ਤਹ ਰਾਮਾ ॥
जह जह देखउ तह तह रामा ॥
Jah jah ḋékʰ▫a▫u ṫah ṫah raamaa.
In the same way, wherever Namdev looks, he sees the Lord.
|
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਨਿਤ ਧਿਆਵੈ ਨਾਮਾ ॥੪॥੨॥
हरि के चरन नित धिआवै नामा ॥४॥२॥
Har ké charan niṫ ḋʰi▫aavæ naamaa. ||4||2||
Namdev meditates continuously on the Feet of the Lord. ||4||2||

ਮੋ ਕਉ ਤਾਰਿ ਲੇ ਰਾਮਾ ਤਾਰਿ ਲੇ ॥
मो कउ तारि ले रामा तारि ले ॥
Mo ka▫o ṫaar lé raamaa ṫaar lé.
Carry me across, O Lord, carry me across.
|
ਮੈ ਅਜਾਨੁ ਜਨੁ ਤਰਿਬੇ ਨ ਜਾਨਉ ਬਾਪ ਬੀਠੁਲਾ ਬਾਹ ਦੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
मै अजानु जनु तरिबे न जानउ बाप बीठुला बाह दे ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Mæ ajaan jan ṫaribé na jaan▫o baap beetʰulaa baah ḋé. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
I am ignorant, and I do not know how to swim. O my Beloved Father, please give me Your arm. ||1||Pause||
|
ਨਰ ਤੇ ਸੁਰ ਹੋਇ ਜਾਤ ਨਿਮਖ ਮੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਿਖਲਾਈ ॥
नर ते सुर होइ जात निमख मै सतिगुर बुधि सिखलाई ॥
Nar ṫé sur ho▫é jaaṫ nimakʰ mæ saṫgur buḋʰ sikʰlaa▫ee.
I have been transformed from a mortal being into an angel, in an instant; the True Guru has taught me this.

ਨਰ ਤੇ ਉਪਜਿ ਸੁਰਗ ਕਉ ਜੀਤਿਓ ਸੋ ਅਵਖਧ ਮੈ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
नर ते उपजि सुरग कउ जीतिओ सो अवखध मै पाई ॥१॥
Nar ṫé upaj surag ka▫o jeeṫi▫o so avkʰaḋʰ mæ paa▫ee. ||1||
Born of human flesh, I have conquered the heavens; such is the medicine I was given. ||1||
|
ਜਹਾ ਜਹਾ ਧੂਅ ਨਾਰਦੁ ਟੇਕੇ ਨੈਕੁ ਟਿਕਾਵਹੁ ਮੋਹਿ ॥
जहा जहा धूअ नारदु टेके नैकु टिकावहु मोहि ॥
Jahaa jahaa ḋʰoo▫a naaraḋ téké næk tikaavahu mohi.
Please place me where You placed Dhroo and Naarad, O my Master.

ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਮ ਅਵਿਲੰਬਿ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਜਨ ਉਧਰੇ ਨਾਮੇ ਕੀ ਨਿਜ ਮਤਿ ਏਹ ॥੨॥੩॥
तेरे नाम अविल्मबि बहुतु जन उधरे नामे की निज मति एह ॥२॥३॥
Ṫéré naam avilamb bahuṫ jan uḋʰré naamé kee nij maṫ éh. ||2||3||
With the Support of Your Name, so many have been saved; this is Namdev’s understanding. ||2||3||
