काहू बिहावै माइ बाप पूत ॥
Kaahoo bihaavæ maa▫é baap pooṫ.
Some pass their lives with their mothers, fathers and children.

ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਰਾਜ ਮਿਲਖ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥
काहू बिहावै राज मिलख वापारा ॥
Kaahoo bihaavæ raaj milakʰ vaapaaraa.
Some pass their lives in power, estates and trade.

ਸੰਤ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
संत बिहावै हरि नाम अधारा ॥१॥
Sanṫ bihaavæ har naam aḋʰaaraa. ||1||
The Saints pass their lives with the support of the Lord’s Name. ||1||
|
ਰਚਨਾ ਸਾਚੁ ਬਨੀ ॥
रचना साचु बनी ॥
Rachnaa saach banee.
The world is the creation of the True Lord.
|
ਸਭ ਕਾ ਏਕੁ ਧਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
सभ का एकु धनी ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Sabʰ kaa ék ḋʰanee. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
He alone is the Master of all. ||1||Pause||

ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਬੇਦ ਅਰੁ ਬਾਦਿ ॥
काहू बिहावै बेद अरु बादि ॥
Kaahoo bihaavæ béḋ ar baaḋ.
Some pass their lives in arguments and debates about scriptures.

ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਰਸਨਾ ਸਾਦਿ ॥
काहू बिहावै रसना सादि ॥
Kaahoo bihaavæ rasnaa saaḋ.
Some pass their lives tasting flavors.
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਲਪਟਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
काहू बिहावै लपटि संगि नारी ॥
Kaahoo bihaavæ lapat sang naaree.
Some pass their lives attached to women.
|
ਸੰਤ ਰਚੇ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ਮੁਰਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
संत रचे केवल नाम मुरारी ॥२॥
Sanṫ raché kéval naam muraaree. ||2||
The Saints are absorbed only in the Name of the Lord. ||2||
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਖੇਲਤ ਜੂਆ ॥
काहू बिहावै खेलत जूआ ॥
Kaahoo bihaavæ kʰélaṫ joo▫aa.
Some pass their lives gambling.
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਅਮਲੀ ਹੂਆ ॥
काहू बिहावै अमली हूआ ॥
Kaahoo bihaavæ amlee hoo▫aa.
Some pass their lives getting drunk.
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਪਰ ਦਰਬ ਚੋੁਰਾਏ ॥
काहू बिहावै पर दरब चुोराए ॥
Kaahoo bihaavæ par ḋarab choraa▫é.
Some pass their lives stealing the property of others.

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਨਾਮ ਧਿਆਏ ॥੩॥
हरि जन बिहावै नाम धिआए ॥३॥
Har jan bihaavæ naam ḋʰi▫aa▫é. ||3||
The humble servants of the Lord pass their lives meditating on the Naam. ||3||
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਜੋਗ ਤਪ ਪੂਜਾ ॥
काहू बिहावै जोग तप पूजा ॥
Kaahoo bihaavæ jog ṫap poojaa.
Some pass their lives in Yoga, strict meditation, worship and adoration.

ਕਾਹੂ ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਭਰਮੀਜਾ ॥
काहू रोग सोग भरमीजा ॥
Kaahoo rog sog bʰarmeejaa.
Some, in sickness, sorrow and doubt.
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਪਵਨ ਧਾਰ ਜਾਤ ਬਿਹਾਏ ॥
काहू पवन धार जात बिहाए ॥
Kaahoo pavan ḋʰaar jaaṫ bihaa▫é.
Some pass their lives practicing control of the breath.
|
ਸੰਤ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਗਾਏ ॥੪॥
संत बिहावै कीरतनु गाए ॥४॥
Sanṫ bihaavæ keerṫan gaa▫é. ||4||
The Saints pass their lives singing the Kirtan of the Lord’s Praises. ||4||
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰੈਨਿ ਚਾਲਤ ॥
काहू बिहावै दिनु रैनि चालत ॥
Kaahoo bihaavæ ḋin ræn chaalaṫ.
Some pass their lives walking day and night.

ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਪਿੜੁ ਮਾਲਤ ॥
काहू बिहावै सो पिड़ु मालत ॥
Kaahoo bihaavæ so piṛ maalaṫ.
Some pass their lives on the fields of battle.

ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਬਾਲ ਪੜਾਵਤ ॥
काहू बिहावै बाल पड़ावत ॥
Kaahoo bihaavæ baal paṛaavaṫ.
Some pass their lives teaching children.
|
ਸੰਤ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਤ ॥੫॥
संत बिहावै हरि जसु गावत ॥५॥
Sanṫ bihaavæ har jas gaavaṫ. ||5||
The Saints pass their lives singing the Lord’s Praise. ||5||
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਨਟ ਨਾਟਿਕ ਨਿਰਤੇ ॥
काहू बिहावै नट नाटिक निरते ॥
Kaahoo bihaavæ nat naatik nirṫé.
Some pass their lives as actors, acting and dancing.

ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਜੀਆਇਹ ਹਿਰਤੇ ॥
काहू बिहावै जीआइह हिरते ॥
Kaahoo bihaavæ jee▫aa▫ih hirṫé.
Some pass their lives taking the lives of others.

ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਰਾਜ ਮਹਿ ਡਰਤੇ ॥
काहू बिहावै राज महि डरते ॥
Kaahoo bihaavæ raaj mėh darṫé.
Some pass their lives ruling by intimidation.
|
ਸੰਤ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਰਤੇ ॥੬॥
संत बिहावै हरि जसु करते ॥६॥
Sanṫ bihaavæ har jas karṫé. ||6||
The Saints pass their lives chanting the Lord’s Praises. ||6||
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਮਤਾ ਮਸੂਰਤਿ ॥
काहू बिहावै मता मसूरति ॥
Kaahoo bihaavæ maṫaa masooraṫ.
Some pass their lives counseling and giving advice.
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਸੇਵਾ ਜਰੂਰਤਿ ॥
काहू बिहावै सेवा जरूरति ॥
Kaahoo bihaavæ sévaa jarooraṫ.
Some pass their lives forced to serve others.
|
ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਸੋਧਤ ਜੀਵਤ ॥
काहू बिहावै सोधत जीवत ॥
Kaahoo bihaavæ soḋʰaṫ jeevaṫ.
Some pass their lives exploring life’s mysteries.
|
ਸੰਤ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵਤ ॥੭॥
संत बिहावै हरि रसु पीवत ॥७॥
Sanṫ bihaavæ har ras peevaṫ. ||7||
The Saints pass their lives drinking in the sublime essence of the Lord. ||7||
|
ਜਿਤੁ ਕੋ ਲਾਇਆ ਤਿਤ ਹੀ ਲਗਾਨਾ ॥
जितु को लाइआ तित ही लगाना ॥
Jiṫ ko laa▫i▫aa ṫiṫ hee lagaanaa.
As the Lord attaches us, so we are attached.
|
ਨਾ ਕੋ ਮੂੜੁ ਨਹੀ ਕੋ ਸਿਆਨਾ ॥
ना को मूड़ु नही को सिआना ॥
Naa ko mooṛ nahee ko si▫aanaa.
No one is foolish, and no one is wise.
|
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਵੈ ਨਾਉ ॥
करि किरपा जिसु देवै नाउ ॥
Kar kirpaa jis ḋévæ naa▫o.
To those who are blessed by His Grace to receive His Name,
|
ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਉ ॥੮॥੩॥
नानक ता कै बलि बलि जाउ ॥८॥३॥
Naanak ṫaa kæ bal bal jaa▫o. ||8||3||
Nanak is a sacrifice, a sacrifice to them. ||8||3||

Raamkalee, Fifth Mehl:
|
ਦਾਵਾ ਅਗਨਿ ਰਹੇ ਹਰਿ ਬੂਟ ॥
दावा अगनि रहे हरि बूट ॥
Ḋaavaa agan rahé har boot.
Even in a forest fire, some trees remain green.
|
ਮਾਤ ਗਰਭ ਸੰਕਟ ਤੇ ਛੂਟ ॥
मात गरभ संकट ते छूट ॥
Maaṫ garabʰ sankat ṫé chʰoot.
The infant is released from the pain of the mother’s womb.
|
ਜਾ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਭਉ ਜਾਇ ॥
जा का नामु सिमरत भउ जाइ ॥
Jaa kaa naam simraṫ bʰa▫o jaa▫é.
Meditating in remembrance of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, fear is dispelled.
|
ਤੈਸੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਰਾਖੈ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥੧॥
तैसे संत जना राखै हरि राइ ॥१॥
Ṫæsé sanṫ janaa raakʰæ har raa▫é. ||1||
Just so, the Sovereign Lord protects and saves the Saints. ||1||
|
ਐਸੇ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
ऐसे राखनहार दइआल ॥
Æsé raakʰanhaar ḋa▫i▫aal.
Such is the Merciful Lord, my Protector.
|
ਜਤ ਕਤ ਦੇਖਉ ਤੁਮ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
जत कत देखउ तुम प्रतिपाल ॥१॥ रहाउ ॥
Jaṫ kaṫ ḋékʰ▫a▫u ṫum parṫipaal. ||1|| rahaa▫o.
Wherever I look, I see You cherishing and nurturing. ||1||Pause||

ਜਲੁ ਪੀਵਤ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਖਾ ਮਿਟੰਤ ॥
जलु पीवत जिउ तिखा मिटंत ॥
Jal peevaṫ ji▫o ṫikʰaa mitanṫ.
As thirst is quenched by drinking water;
|
ਧਨ ਬਿਗਸੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਆਵਤ ਕੰਤ ॥
धन बिगसै ग्रिहि आवत कंत ॥
Ḋʰan bigsæ garihi aavaṫ kanṫ.
as the bride blossoms forth when her husband comes home;
|
ਲੋਭੀ ਕਾ ਧਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥
लोभी का धनु प्राण अधारु ॥
Lobʰee kaa ḋʰan paraaṇ aḋʰaar.
as wealth is the support of the greedy person -
|
ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥੨॥
तिउ हरि जन हरि हरि नाम पिआरु ॥२॥
Ṫi▫o har jan har har naam pi▫aar. ||2||
just so, the humble servant of the Lord loves the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||2||
|
ਕਿਰਸਾਨੀ ਜਿਉ ਰਾਖੈ ਰਖਵਾਲਾ ॥
किरसानी जिउ राखै रखवाला ॥
Kirsaanee ji▫o raakʰæ rakʰvaalaa.
As the farmer protects his fields;
|
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਦਇਆ ਜਿਉ ਬਾਲਾ ॥
मात पिता दइआ जिउ बाला ॥
Maaṫ piṫaa ḋa▫i▫aa ji▫o baalaa.
as the mother and father show compassion to their child;
|
ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਜਾਇ ॥
प्रीतमु देखि प्रीतमु मिलि जाइ ॥
Pareeṫam ḋékʰ pareeṫam mil jaa▫é.
as the lover merges on seeing the beloved;
|
ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਰਾਖੈ ਕੰਠਿ ਲਾਇ ॥੩॥
तिउ हरि जन राखै कंठि लाइ ॥३॥
Ṫi▫o har jan raakʰæ kantʰ laa▫é. ||3||
just so does the Lord hug His humble servant close in His Embrace. ||3||
|
ਜਿਉ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਪੇਖਤ ਹੋਇ ਅਨੰਦ ॥
जिउ अंधुले पेखत होइ अनंद ॥
Ji▫o anḋʰulé pékʰaṫ ho▫é anand.
As the blind man is in ecstasy, when he can see again;
|
ਗੂੰਗਾ ਬਕਤ ਗਾਵੈ ਬਹੁ ਛੰਦ ॥
गूंगा बकत गावै बहु छंद ॥
Goongaa bakaṫ gaavæ baho chʰanḋ.
and the mute, when he is able to speak and sing songs;
|
ਪਿੰਗੁਲ ਪਰਬਤ ਪਰਤੇ ਪਾਰਿ ॥
पिंगुल परबत परते पारि ॥
Pingul parbaṫ parṫé paar.
and the cripple, being able to climb over the mountain -
|
ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਗਲ ਉਧਾਰਿ ॥੪॥
हरि कै नामि सगल उधारि ॥४॥
Har kæ naam sagal uḋʰaar. ||4||
just so, the Name of the Lord saves all. ||4||
|
ਜਿਉ ਪਾਵਕ ਸੰਗਿ ਸੀਤ ਕੋ ਨਾਸ ॥
जिउ पावक संगि सीत को नास ॥
Ji▫o paavak sang seeṫ ko naas.
As cold is dispelled by fire,
|
ਐਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਛਤ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਬਿਨਾਸ ॥
ऐसे प्राछत संतसंगि बिनास ॥
Æsé paraachʰaṫ saṫsang binaas.
sins are driven out in the Society of the Saints.
|
ਜਿਉ ਸਾਬੁਨਿ ਕਾਪਰ ਊਜਲ ਹੋਤ ॥
जिउ साबुनि कापर ऊजल होत ॥
Ji▫o saabun kaapar oojal hoṫ.
As cloth is cleaned by soap,
|
ਨਾਮ ਜਪਤ ਸਭੁ ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਭਉ ਖੋਤ ॥੫॥
नाम जपत सभु भ्रमु भउ खोत ॥५॥
Naam japaṫ sabʰ bʰaram bʰa▫o kʰoṫ. ||5||
just so, by chanting the Naam, all doubts and fears are dispelled. ||5||
|
ਜਿਉ ਚਕਵੀ ਸੂਰਜ ਕੀ ਆਸ ॥
जिउ चकवी सूरज की आस ॥
Ji▫o chakvee sooraj kee aas.
As the Chakvi bird longs for the sun,
|
ਜਿਉ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਬੂੰਦ ਕੀ ਪਿਆਸ ॥
जिउ चात्रिक बूंद की पिआस ॥
Ji▫o chaaṫrik boonḋ kee pi▫aas.
as the rainbird thirsts for the raindrop,
|
ਜਿਉ ਕੁਰੰਕ ਨਾਦ ਕਰਨ ਸਮਾਨੇ ॥
जिउ कुरंक नाद करन समाने ॥
Ji▫o kurank naaḋ karan samaané.
as the deer’s ears are attuned to the sound of the bell,
|
ਤਿਉ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਮਨਹਿ ਸੁਖਾਨੇ ॥੬॥
तिउ हरि नाम हरि जन मनहि सुखाने ॥६॥
Ṫi▫o har naam har jan manėh sukʰaané. ||6||
the Lord’s Name is pleasing to the mind of the Lord’s humble servant. ||6||
