garihi sobhaa jaa kai ray naahi.
When someone's household has no glory,

Awvq phIAw KUDy jwih ] (872-1)
aavat pahee-aa khooDhay jaahi.
the guests who come there depart still hungry.

vw kY AMqir nhI sMqoKu ] (872-1)
vaa kai antar nahee santokh.
Deep within, there is no contentment.

ibnu sohwgin lwgY doKu ]1] (872-1)
bin sohaagan laagai dokh. ||1||
Without his bride, the wealth of Maya, he suffers in pain. ||1||

Dnu sohwgin mhw pvIq ] qpy qpIsr folY cIq ]1] rhwau ] (872-2)
Dhan sohaagan mahaa paveet. tapay tapeesar dolai cheet. ||1|| rahaa-o.
So praise this bride, which can shake the consciousness of even the most dedicated ascetics and sages. ||1||Pause||

sohaagan kirpan kee pootee.
This bride is the daughter of a wretched miser.

syvk qij jgq isau sUqI ] (872-3)
sayvak taj jagat si-o sootee.
Abandoning the Lord's servant, she sleeps with the world.

swDU kY TwFI drbwir ] (872-3)
saaDhoo kai thaadhee darbaar.
Standing at the door of the holy man,

srin qyrI mo kau insqwir ]2] (872-3)
saran tayree mo ka-o nistaar. ||2||
she says, "I have come to your sanctuary; now save me!"||2||

sohwgin hY Aiq suMdrI ] (872-4)
sohaagan hai at sundree.
This bride is so beautiful.

pg nyvr Cnk CnhrI ] (872-4)
pag nayvar chhanak chhanharee.
The bells on her ankles make soft music.

jau lgu pRwn qaU lgu sMgy ] (872-4)
ja-o lag paraan ta-oo lag sangay.
As long as there is the breath of life in the man, she remains attached to him.

nwih q clI byig auiT nµgy ]3] (872-5)
naahi ta chalee bayg uth nangay. ||3||
But when it is no more, she quickly gets up and departs, bare-footed. ||3||

sohwgin Bvn qRY lIAw ] (872-5)
sohaagan bhavan tarai lee-aa.
This bride has conquered the three worlds.

ds AT purwx qIrQ rs kIAw ] (872-5)
das ath puraan tirath ras kee-aa.
The eighteen Puraanas and the sacred shrines of pilgrimage love her as well.

bRhmw ibsnu mhysr byDy ] (872-6)
barahmaa bisan mahaysar bayDhay.
She pierced the hearts of Brahma, Shiva and Vishnu.

bfy BUpiq rwjy hY CyDy ]4] (872-6)
baday bhoopat raajay hai chhayDhay. ||4||
She destroyed the great emperors and kings of the world. ||4||

sohwgin aurvwir n pwir ] (872-6)
sohaagan urvaar na paar.
This bride has no restraint or limits.

pWc nwrd kY sMig ibDvwir ] (872-7)
paaNch naarad kai sang biDhvaar.
She is in collusion with the five thieving passions.

pWc nwrd ky imtvy PUty ] (872-7)
paaNch naarad kay mitvay footay.
When the clay pot of these five passions bursts,

khu kbIr gur ikrpw CUty ]5]5]8] (872-7)
kaho kabeer gur kirpaa chhootay. ||5||5||8||
then, says Kabeer, by Guru's Mercy, one is released. ||5||5||8||

jYsy mMdr mih blhr nw TwhrY ] (872-8)
jaisay mandar meh balhar naa thaahrai.
As the house will not stand when the supporting beams are removed from within it,

nwm ibnw kYsy pwir auqrY ] (872-8)
naam binaa kaisay paar utrai.
just so, without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, how can anyone be carried across?

kuMB ibnw jlu nw tIkwvY ] (872-8)
kumbh binaa jal naa teekaavai.
Without the pitcher, the water is not contained;

swDU ibnu AYsy Abgqu jwvY ]1] (872-9)
saaDhoo bin aisay abgat jaavai. ||1||
just so, without the Holy Saint, the mortal departs in misery. ||1||

jwrau iqsY ju rwmu n cyqY ] (872-9)
jaara-o tisai jo raam na chaytai.
One who does not remember the Lord - let him burn;

qn mn rmq rhY mih KyqY ]1] rhwau ] (872-9)
tan man ramat rahai meh khaytai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
his body and mind have remained absorbed in this field of the world. ||1||Pause||

jYsy hlhr ibnw ijmI nhI boeIAY ] (872-10)
jaisay halhar binaa jimee nahee bo-ee-ai.
Without a farmer, the land is not planted;

sUq ibnw kYsy mxI proeIAY ] (872-10)
soot binaa kaisay manee paroee-ai.
without a thread, how can the beads be strung?

GuMfI ibnu ikAw gMiT cVHweIAY ] (872-11)
ghundee bin ki-aa ganth charhHaa-ee-ai.
Without a loop, how can the knot be tied?

swDU ibnu qYsy Abgqu jweIAY ]2] (872-11)
saaDhoo bin taisay abgat jaa-ee-ai. ||2||
Just so, without the Holy Saint, the mortal departs in misery. ||2||

jYsy mwq ipqw ibnu bwlu n hoeI ] (872-11)
jaisay maat pitaa bin baal na ho-ee.
Without a mother or father there is no child;

ibMb ibnw kYsy kpry DoeI ] (872-12)
bimb binaa kaisay kapray Dho-ee.
just so, without water, how can the clothes be washed?

Gor ibnw kYsy Asvwr ] (872-12)
ghor binaa kaisay asvaar.
Without a horse, how can there be a rider?

swDU ibnu nwhI drvwr ]3] (872-12)
saaDhoo bin naahee darvaar. ||3||
Without the Holy Saint, one cannot reach the Court of the Lord. ||3||

jYsy bwjy ibnu nhI lIjY PyrI ] (872-13)
jaisay baajay bin nahee leejai fayree.
Just as without music, there is no dancing,

Ksim duhwgin qij AauhyrI ] (872-13)
khasam duhaagan taj a-uhayree.
the bride rejected by her husband is dishonored.

khY kbIru eykY kir krnw ] (872-13)
kahai kabeer aykai kar karnaa.
Says Kabeer, do this one thing:

gurmuiK hoie bhuir nhI mrnw ]4]6]9] (872-14)
gurmukh ho-ay bahur nahee marnaa. ||4||6||9||
become Gurmukh, and you shall never die again. ||4||6||9||

Gond:

kUtnu soie ju mn kau kUtY ] (872-14)
kootan so-ay jo man ka-o kootai.
He alone is a pimp, who pounds down his mind.

mn kUtY qau jm qy CUtY ] (872-14)
man kootai ta-o jam tay chhootai.
Pounding down his mind, he escapes from the Messenger of Death.

kuit kuit mnu ksvtI lwvY ] (872-15)
kut kut man kasvatee laavai.
Pounding and beating his mind, he puts it to the test;

so kUtnu mukiq bhu pwvY ]1] (872-15)
so kootan mukat baho paavai. ||1||
such a pimp attains total liberation. ||1||

kUtnu iksY khhu sMswr ] (872-15)
kootan kisai kahhu sansaar.
Who is called a pimp in this world?

sgl boln ky mwih bIcwr ]1] rhwau ] (872-16)
sagal bolan kay maahi beechaar. ||1|| rahaa-o.
In all speech, one must carefully consider. ||1||Pause||

nwcnu soie ju mn isau nwcY ] (872-16)
naachan so-ay jo man si-o naachai.
He alone is a dancer, who dances with his mind.

JUiT n pqIAY prcY swcY ] (872-16)
jhooth na patee-ai parchai saachai.
The Lord is not satisfied with falsehood; He is pleased only with Truth.

iesu mn Awgy pUrY qwl ] (872-17)
is man aagay poorai taal.
So play the beat of the drum in the mind.

iesu nwcn ky mn rKvwl ]2] (872-17)
is naachan kay man rakhvaal. ||2||
The Lord is the Protector of the dancer with such a mind. ||2||

bjwrI so ju bjwrih soDY ] (872-17)
bajaaree so jo bajaarahi soDhai.
She alone is a street-dancer, who cleanses her body-street,

pWc plIqh kau prboDY ] (872-18)
paaNch paleeteh ka-o parboDhai.
and educates the five passions.

nau nwiek kI Bgiq pCwnY ] (872-18)
na-o naa-ik kee bhagat pachhaanai.
She who embraces devotional worship for the Lord

so bwjwrI hm gur mwny ]3] (872-18)
so baajaaree ham gur maanay. ||3||
- I accept such a street-dancer as my Guru. ||3||

qskru soie ij qwiq n krY ] (872-18)
taskar so-ay je taat na karai.
He alone is a thief, who is above envy,

ieMdRI kY jqin nwmu aucrY ] (872-19)
indree kai jatan naam uchrai.
and who uses his sense organs to chant the Lord's Name.

khu kbIr hm AYsy lKn ] (872-19)
kaho kabeer ham aisay lakhan.
Says Kabeer, these are the qualities of the one

Dhan gurdayv at roop bichkhan. ||4||7||10||
I know as my Blessed Divine Guru, who is the most beautiful and wise. ||4||7||10||
