AYsw igAwnu bIcwrY koeI ] (879-1)
aisaa gi-aan beechaarai ko-ee.
How rare are those who contemplate this spiritual wisdom.

iqs qy mukiq prm giq hoeI ]1] rhwau ] (879-1)
tis tay mukat param gat ho-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Through this, the supreme state of liberation is attained. ||1||Pause||

idn mih rYix rYix mih idnIAru ausn sIq ibiD soeI ] (879-1)
din meh rain rain meh dinee-ar usan seet biDh so-ee.
The night is in the day, and the day is in the night. The same is true of hot and cold.

qw kI giq imiq Avru n jwxY gur ibnu smJ n hoeI ]2] (879-2)
taa kee gat mit avar na jaanai gur bin samajh na ho-ee. ||2||
No one else knows His state and extent; without the Guru, this is not understood. ||2||

purK mih nwir nwir mih purKw bUJhu bRhm igAwnI ] (879-3)
purakh meh naar naar meh purkhaa boojhhu barahm gi-aanee.
The female is in the male, and the male is in the female. Understand this, O God-realized being!

Duin mih iDAwnu iDAwn mih jwinAw gurmuiK AkQ khwnI ]3] (879-3)
Dhun meh Dhi-aan Dhi-aan meh jaani-aa gurmukh akath kahaanee. ||3||
The meditation is in the music, and knowledge is in meditation. Become Gurmukh, and speak the Unspoken Speech. ||3||

man meh jot jot meh manoo-aa panch milay gur bhaa-ee.
The Light is in the mind, and the mind is in the Light. The Guru brings the five senses together, like brothers.

nwnk iqn kY sd bilhwrI ijn eyk sbid ilv lweI ]4]9] (879-5)
naanak tin kai sad balihaaree jin ayk sabad liv laa-ee. ||4||9||
Nanak is forever a sacrifice to those who enshrine love for the One Word of the Shabad. ||4||9||

Raamkalee, First Mehl:

jw hir pRiB ikrpw DwrI ] (879-5)
jaa har parabh kirpaa Dhaaree.
When the Lord God showered His Mercy,

qw haumY ivchu mwrI ] (879-6)
taa ha-umai vichahu maaree.
egotism was eradicated from within me.

so syvik rwm ipAwrI ] jo gur sbdI bIcwrI ]1] (879-6)
so sayvak raam pi-aaree. jo gur sabdee beechaaree. ||1||
That humble servant who contemplates the Word of the Guru's Shabad, is very dear to the Lord. ||1||

so hir jnu hir pRB BwvY ] (879-7)
so har jan har parabh bhaavai.
That humble servant of the Lord is pleasing to his Lord God;

Aihinis Bgiq kry idnu rwqI lwj Coif hir ky gux gwvY ]1] rhwau ] (879-7)
ahinis bhagat karay din raatee laaj chhod har kay gun gaavai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
day and night, he performs devotional worship, day and night. Disregarding his own honor, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

Duin vwjy Anhd Gorw ] (879-8)
Dhun vaajay anhad ghoraa.
The unstruck melody of the sound current resonates and resounds;

mnu mwinAw hir ris morw ] (879-8)
man maani-aa har ras moraa.
my mind is appeased by the subtle essence of the Lord.

gur pUrY scu smwieAw ] (879-8)
gur poorai sach samaa-i-aa.
Through the Perfect Guru, I am absorbed in Truth.

guru Awid purKu hir pwieAw ]2] (879-9)
gur aad purakh har paa-i-aa. ||2||
Through the Guru, I have found the Lord, the Primal Being. ||2||

siB nwd byd gurbwxI ] (879-9)
sabh naad bayd gurbaanee.
Gurbani is the sound current of the Naad, the Vedas, everything.

mnu rwqw swirgpwxI ] (879-9)
man raataa saarigpaanee.
My mind is attuned to the Lord of the Universe.

qh qIrQ vrq qp swry ] (879-10)
tah tirath varat tap saaray.
He is my sacred shrine of pilgrimage, fasting and austere self-discipline.

gur imilAw hir insqwry ]3] (879-10)
gur mili-aa har nistaaray. ||3||
The Lord saves, and carries across, those who meet with the Guru. ||3||

jh Awpu gieAw Bau Bwgw ] (879-10)
jah aap ga-i-aa bha-o bhaagaa.
One whose self-conceit is gone, sees his fears run away.

gur crxI syvku lwgw ] (879-11)
gur charnee sayvak laagaa.
That servant grasps the Guru's feet.

guir siqguir Brmu cukwieAw ] (879-11)
gur satgur bharam chukaa-i-aa.
The Guru, the True Guru, has expelled my doubts.

khu nwnk sbid imlwieAw ]4]10] (879-11)
kaho naanak sabad milaa-i-aa. ||4||10||
Says Nanak, I have merged into the Word of the Shabad. ||4||10||

raamkalee mehlaa 1.
Raamkalee, First Mehl:

Cwdnu Bojnu mwgqu BwgY ] (879-12)
chhaadan bhojan maagat bhaagai.
He runs around, begging for clothes and food.

KuiDAw dust jlY duKu AwgY ] (879-12)
khuDhi-aa dusat jalai dukh aagai.
He burns with hunger and corruption, and will suffer in the world hereafter.

gurmiq nhI lInI durmiq piq KoeI ] (879-13)
gurmat nahee leenee durmat pat kho-ee.
He does not follow the Guru's Teachings; through his evil-mindedness, he loses his honor.

gurmiq Bgiq pwvY jnu koeI ]1] (879-13)
gurmat bhagat paavai jan ko-ee. ||1||
Only through the Guru's Teachings will such a person become devoted. ||1||

jogI jugiq shj Gir vwsY ] (879-13)
jogee jugat sahj ghar vaasai.
The way of the Yogi is to dwell in the celestial home of bliss.

eyk idRsit eyko kir dyiKAw BIiKAw Bwie sbid iqRpqwsY ]1] rhwau ] (879-14)
ayk darisat ayko kar daykhi-aa bheekhi-aa bhaa-ay sabad tariptaasai. ||1|| rahaa-o.
He looks impartially, equally upon all. He receives the charity of the Lord's Love, and the Word of the Shabad, and so he is satisfied. ||1||Pause||

panch bail gadee-aa dayh Dhaaree.
The five bulls, the senses, pull the wagon of the body around.

raam kalaa nibhai pat saaree.
By the Lord's power, one's honor is preserved.

Dr qUtI gwfo isr Bwir ] (879-15)
Dhar tootee gaado sir bhaar.
But when the axle breaks, the wagon falls and crashes.

lkrI ibKir jrI mMJ Bwir ]2] (879-16)
lakree bikhar jaree manjh bhaar. ||2||
It falls apart, like a pile of logs. ||2||

gur kw sbdu vIcwir jogI ] (879-16)
gur kaa sabad veechaar jogee.
Contemplate the Word of the Guru's Shabad, Yogi.

duKu suKu sm krxw sog ibEgI ] (879-16)
dukh sukh sam karnaa sog bi-ogee.
Look upon pain and pleasure as one and the same, sorrow and separation.

Bugiq nwmu gur sbid bIcwrI ] (879-17)
bhugat naam gur sabad beechaaree.
Let your food be contemplative meditation upon the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

AsiQru kMDu jpY inrMkwrI ]3] (879-17)
asthir kanDh japai nirankaaree. ||3||
Your wall shall be permanent, by meditating on the Formless Lord. ||3||

shj jgotw bMDn qy CUtw ] (879-17)
sahj jagotaa banDhan tay chhootaa.
Wear the loin-cloth of poise, and be free of entanglements.

kwmu k®oDu gur sbdI lUtw ] (879-18)
kaam kroDh gur sabdee lootaa.
The Guru's Word shall release you from sexual desire and anger.

mn mih muMdRw hir gur srxw ] (879-18)
man meh mundraa har gur sarnaa.
In your mind, let your ear-rings be the Sanctuary of the Guru, the Lord.

nwnk rwm Bgiq jn qrxw ]4]11] (879-18)
naanak raam bhagat jan tarnaa. ||4||11||
O Nanak, worshipping the Lord in deep devotion, the humble are carried across. ||4||11||
