satjug sach kahai sabh ko-ee.
In the Golden Age of Sat Yuga, everyone spoke the Truth.

Gir Gir Bgiq gurmuiK hoeI ] (880-1)
ghar ghar bhagat gurmukh ho-ee.
In each and every home, devotional worship was performed by the people, according to the Guru's Teachings.

sqjuig Drmu pYr hY cwir ] (880-2)
satjug Dharam pair hai chaar.
In that Golden Age, Dharma had four feet.

gurmuiK bUJY ko bIcwir ]1] (880-2)
gurmukh boojhai ko beechaar. ||1||
How rare are those people who, as Gurmukh, contemplate this and understand. ||1||

jug cwry nwim vifAweI hoeI ] (880-2)
jug chaaray naam vadi-aa-ee ho-ee.
In all four ages, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is glory and greatness.

ij nwim lwgY so mukiq hovY gur ibnu nwmu n pwvY koeI ]1] rhwau ] (880-3)
je naam laagai so mukat hovai gur bin naam na paavai ko-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
One who holds tight to the Naam is liberated; without the Guru, no one obtains the Naam. ||1||Pause||

qRyqY iek kl kInI dUir ] (880-3)
taraytai ik kal keenee door.
In the Silver Age of Traytaa Yuga, one leg was removed.

pwKMfu vriqAw hir jwxin dUir ] (880-4)
pakhand varti-aa har jaanan door.
Hypocrisy became prevalent, and people thought that the Lord was far away.

gurmuiK bUJY soJI hoeI ] (880-4)
gurmukh boojhai sojhee ho-ee.
The Gurmukhs still understood and realized;

AMqir nwmu vsY suKu hoeI ]2] (880-4)
antar naam vasai sukh ho-ee. ||2||
the Naam abided deep within them, and they were at peace. ||2||

duAwpuir dUjY duibDw hoie ] (880-5)
du-aapur doojai dubiDhaa ho-ay.
In the Brass Age of Dwaapur Yuga, duality and double-mindedness arose.

Brim Bulwny jwxih doie ] (880-5)
bharam bhulaanay jaaneh do-ay.
Deluded by doubt, they knew duality.

duAwpuir Drim duie pYr rKwey ] (880-5)
du-aapur Dharam du-ay pair rakhaa-ay.
In this Brass Age, Dharma was left with only two feet.

gurmuiK hovY q nwmu idRVwey ]3] (880-6)
gurmukh hovai ta naam drirh-aa-ay. ||3||
Those who became Gurmukh implanted the Naam deep within. ||3||

kaljug Dharam kalaa ik rahaa-ay.
In the Iron Age of Kali Yuga, Dharma was left with only one power.

iek pYir clY mwieAw mohu vDwey ] (880-6)
ik pair chalai maa-i-aa moh vaDhaa-ay.
It walks on just one foot; love and emotional attachment to Maya have increased.

mwieAw mohu Aiq gubwru ] (880-7)
maa-i-aa moh at gubaar.
Love and emotional attachment to Maya bring total darkness.

sqguru BytY nwim auDwru ]4] (880-7)
satgur bhaytai naam uDhaar. ||4||
If someone meets the True Guru, he is saved, through the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||

sB jug mih swcw eyko soeI ] (880-7)
sabh jug meh saachaa ayko so-ee.
Throughout the ages, there is only the One True Lord.

sB mih scu dUjw nhI koeI ] (880-8)
sabh meh sach doojaa nahee ko-ee.
Among all, is the True Lord; there is no other at all.

swcI kIriq scu suKu hoeI ] (880-8)
saachee keerat sach sukh ho-ee.
Praising the True Lord, true peace is attained.

gurmuiK nwmu vKwxY koeI ]5] (880-8)
gurmukh naam vakhaanai ko-ee. ||5||
How rare are those, who as Gurmukh, chant the Naam. ||5||

sB jug mih nwmu aUqmu hoeI ] (880-9)
sabh jug meh naam ootam ho-ee.
Throughout all the ages, the Naam is the ultimate, the most sublime.

gurmuiK ivrlw bUJY koeI ] (880-9)
gurmukh virlaa boojhai ko-ee.
How rare are those, who as Gurmukh, understand this.

hir nwmu iDAwey Bgqu jnu soeI ] (880-9)
har naam Dhi-aa-ay bhagat jan so-ee.
One who meditates on the Lord's Name is a humble devotee.

nwnk juig juig nwim vifAweI hoeI ]6]1] (880-10)
naanak jug jug naam vadi-aa-ee ho-ee. ||6||1||
O Nanak, in each and every age, the Naam is glory and greatness. ||6||1||

If someone is very fortunate, and is blessed with great high destiny, then he meditates on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

naam japat naamay sukh paavai har naamay naam samaavai. ||1||
Chanting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, he finds peace, and merges in the Naam. ||1||

gurmuiK Bgiq krhu sd pRwxI ] (880-13)
gurmukh bhagat karahu sad paraanee.
O mortal, as Gurmukh, worship the Lord in devotion forever.

ihrdY pRgwsu hovY ilv lwgY gurmiq hir hir nwim smwxI ]1] rhwau ] (880-13)
hirdai pargaas hovai liv laagai gurmat har har naam samaanee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Your heart shall be illumined; through the Guru's Teachings, lovingly attune yourself to the Lord. You shall merge in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||1||Pause||

heeraa ratan javayhar maanak baho saagar bharpoor kee-aa.
The Great Giver is filled with diamonds, emeralds, rubies and pearls;

ijsu vf Bwgu hovY vf msqik iqin gurmiq kiF kiF lIAw ]2] (880-14)
jis vad bhaag hovai vad mastak tin gurmat kadh kadh lee-aa. ||2||
one who has good fortune and great destiny inscribed upon his forehead, digs them out, by following the Guru's Teachings. ||2||

rqnu jvyhru lwlu hir nwmw guir kwiF qlI idKlwieAw ] (880-15)
ratan javayhar laal har naamaa gur kaadh talee dikhlaa-i-aa.
The Lord's Name is the jewel, the emerald, the ruby; digging it out, the Guru has placed it in your palm.

BwghIx mnmuiK nhI lIAw iqRx ElY lwKu CpwieAw ]3] (880-16)
bhaagheen manmukh nahee lee-aa tarin olai laakh chhapaa-i-aa. ||3||
The unfortunate, self-willed manmukh does not obtain it; this priceless jewel remains hidden behind a curtain of straw. ||3||

msqik Bwgu hovY Duir iliKAw qw sqguru syvw lwey ] (880-16)
mastak bhaag hovai Dhur likhi-aa taa satgur sayvaa laa-ay.
If such pre-ordained destiny is written upon one's forehead, then the True Guru enjoins him to serve Him.

nwnk rqn jvyhr pwvY Dnu Dnu gurmiq hir pwey ]4]1] (880-17)
naanak ratan javayhar paavai Dhan Dhan gurmat har paa-ay. ||4||1||
O Nanak, then he obtains the jewel, the gem; blessed, blessed is that one who follows the Guru's Teachings, and finds the Lord. ||4||1||

rwm jnw imil BieAw Anµdw hir nIkI kQw sunwie ] (880-18)
raam janaa mil bha-i-aa anandaa har neekee kathaa sunaa-ay.
Meeting with the humble servants of the Lord, I am in ecstasy; they preach the sublime sermon of the Lord.

durmiq mYlu geI sB nIkil sqsMgiq imil buiD pwie ]1] (880-18)
durmat mail ga-ee sabh neekal satsangat mil buDh paa-ay. ||1||
The filth of evil-mindedness is totally washed away; joining the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, one is blessed with understanding. ||1||
