ਜੋ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥

Jo ḋékʰ ḋikʰaavæ ṫis ka▫o bal jaa▫ee.

I am a sacrifice to one who sees, and inspires others to see Him.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥

Gur parsaaḋ param paḋ paa▫ee. ||1||

By Guru’s Grace, I have obtained the supreme-status. ||1||

ਕਿਆ ਜਪੁ ਜਾਪਉ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਗਦੀਸੈ ॥

Ki▫aa jap jaapa▫o bin jagḋeesæ.

Whose Name should I chant, and meditate on, except the Lord of the Universe?

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਹਲੁ ਘਰੁ ਦੀਸੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Gur kæ sabaḋ mahal gʰar ḋeesæ. ||1|| rahaa▫o.

Through the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, the Mansion of the Lord’s Presence is revealed within the home of one’s own heart. ||1||Pause||

ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਲਗੇ ਪਛੁਤਾਣੇ ॥

Ḋoojæ bʰaa▫é lagé pachʰuṫaaṇé.

The Second Day: Those who are in love with another, come to regret and repent.

ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਾਧੇ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੇ ॥

Jam ḋar baaḋʰé aavaṇ jaaṇé.

They are tied up at Death’s door, and continue coming and going.

ਕਿਆ ਲੈ ਆਵਹਿ ਕਿਆ ਲੇ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

Ki▫aa læ aavahi ki▫aa lé jaahi.

What have they brought, and what will they take with them when they go?

ਸਿਰਿ ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਸਿ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਹਿ ॥

Sir jamkaal sė chotaa kʰaahi.

The Messenger of Death looms over their heads, and they endure his beating.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦ ਨ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਕੋਇ ॥

Bin gur sabaḋ na chʰootas ko▫é.

Without the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, no one finds release.

ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਕੀਨੑੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥

Pakʰand keenĥæ mukaṫ na ho▫é. ||2||

Practicing hypocrisy, no one finds liberation. ||2||

ਆਪੇ ਸਚੁ ਕੀਆ ਕਰ ਜੋੜਿ ॥

Aapé sach kee▫aa kar joṛ.

The True Lord Himself created the universe, joining the elements together.

ਅੰਡਜ ਫੋੜਿ ਜੋੜਿ ਵਿਛੋੜਿ ॥

Andaj foṛ joṛ vichʰoṛ.

Breaking the cosmic egg, He united, and separated.

ਧਰਤਿ ਅਕਾਸੁ ਕੀਏ ਬੈਸਣ ਕਉ ਥਾਉ ॥

Ḋʰaraṫ akaas kee▫é bæsaṇ ka▫o ṫʰaa▫o.

He made the earth and the sky into places to live.

ਰਾਤਿ ਦਿਨੰਤੁ ਕੀਏ ਭਉ ਭਾਉ ॥

Raaṫ ḋinanṫ kee▫é bʰa▫o bʰaa▫o.

He created day and night, fear and love.

ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਏ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

Jin kee▫é kar vékʰaṇhaaraa.

The One who created the Creation, also watches over it.

ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੩॥

Avar na ḋoojaa sirjaṇhaaraa. ||3||

There is no other Creator Lord. ||3||

ਤ੍ਰਿਤੀਆ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਮਹੇਸਾ ॥

Ṫariṫee▫aa barahmaa bisan mahésaa.

The Third Day: He created Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva,

ਦੇਵੀ ਦੇਵ ਉਪਾਏ ਵੇਸਾ ॥

Ḋévee ḋév upaa▫é vésaa.

the gods, goddesses and various manifestations.

ਜੋਤੀ ਜਾਤੀ ਗਣਤ ਨ ਆਵੈ ॥

Joṫee jaaṫee gaṇaṫ na aavæ.

The lights and forms cannot be counted.

ਜਿਨਿ ਸਾਜੀ ਸੋ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

Jin saajee so keemaṫ paavæ.

The One who fashioned them, knows their value.

ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥

Keemaṫ paa▫é rahi▫aa bʰarpoor.

He evaluates them, and totally pervades them.

ਕਿਸੁ ਨੇੜੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਖਾ ਦੂਰਿ ॥੪॥

Kis néṛæ kis aakʰaa ḋoor. ||4||

Who is close, and who is far away? ||4||

ਚਉਥਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਚਾਰੇ ਬੇਦਾ ॥

Cha▫uṫʰ upaa▫é chaaré béḋaa.

The Fourth Day: He created the four Vedas,

ਖਾਣੀ ਚਾਰੇ ਬਾਣੀ ਭੇਦਾ ॥

Kʰaaṇee chaaré baṇee bʰéḋaa.

the four sources of creation, and distinct forms of speech.

ਅਸਟ ਦਸਾ ਖਟੁ ਤੀਨਿ ਉਪਾਏ ॥

Asat ḋasaa kʰat ṫeen upaa▫é.

He created the eighteen Puranas, the six Shastras and the three qualities.

ਸੋ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥

So boojʰæ jis aap bujʰaa▫é.

He alone understands whom the Lord causes to understand.

ਤੀਨਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਚਉਥੈ ਵਾਸਾ ॥

Ṫeen samaavæ cha▫uṫʰæ vaasaa.

One who overcomes the three qualities, dwells in the fourth state.

ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਦਾਸਾ ॥੫॥

Paraṇvaṫ Naanak ham ṫaa ké ḋaasaa. ||5||

Prays Nanak, I am his slave. ||5||

ਪੰਚਮੀ ਪੰਚ ਭੂਤ ਬੇਤਾਲਾ ॥

Panchmee panch bʰooṫ béṫaalaa.

The Fifth Day: The five elements are demons.

ਆਪਿ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ॥

Aap agochar purakʰ niraalaa.

The Lord Himself is unfathomable and detached.

ਇਕਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੂਖੇ ਮੋਹ ਪਿਆਸੇ ॥

Ik bʰaram bʰookʰé moh pi▫aasé.

Some are gripped by doubt, hunger, emotional attachment and desire.

ਇਕਿ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸੇ ॥

Ik ras chaakʰ sabaḋ ṫaripṫaasé.

Some taste the sublime essence of the Shabad, and are satisfied.

ਇਕਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਇਕਿ ਮਰਿ ਧੂਰਿ ॥

Ik rang raaṫé ik mar ḋʰoor.

Some are imbued with the Lord’s Love, while some die, and are reduced to dust.

ਇਕਿ ਦਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਸਾਚੈ ਦੇਖਿ ਹਦੂਰਿ ॥੬॥

Ik ḋar gʰar saachæ ḋékʰ haḋoor. ||6||

Some attain the Court and the Mansion of the True Lord, and behold Him, ever-present. ||6||

ਝੂਠੇ ਕਉ ਨਾਹੀ ਪਤਿ ਨਾਉ ॥

Jʰootʰé ka▫o naahee paṫ naa▫o.

The false one has no honor or fame;

ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਸੂਚਾ ਕਾਲਾ ਕਾਉ ॥

Kabahu na soochaa kaalaa kaa▫o.

like the black crow, he never becomes pure.

ਪਿੰਜਰਿ ਪੰਖੀ ਬੰਧਿਆ ਕੋਇ ॥

Pinjar pankʰee banḋʰi▫aa ko▫é.

He is like the bird, imprisoned in a cage;

ਛੇਰੀਂ ਭਰਮੈ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

Chʰéreeⁿ bʰarmæ mukaṫ na ho▫é.

he paces back and forth behind the bars, but he is not released.

ਤਉ ਛੂਟੈ ਜਾ ਖਸਮੁ ਛਡਾਏ ॥

Ṫa▫o chʰootæ jaa kʰasam chʰadaa▫é.

He alone is emancipated, whom the Lord and Master emancipates.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ॥੭॥

Gurmaṫ mélé bʰagaṫ driṛ▫aa▫é. ||7||

He follows the Guru’s Teachings, and enshrines devotional worship. ||7||

ਖਸਟੀ ਖਟੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਾਜੇ ॥

Kʰastee kʰat ḋarsan parabʰ saajé.

The Sixth Day: God organized the six systems of Yoga.

ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦੁ ਨਿਰਾਲਾ ਵਾਜੇ ॥

Anhaḋ sabaḋ niraalaa vaajé.

The unstruck sound current of the Shabad vibrates on itself.

ਜੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਵੈ ॥

Jé parabʰ bʰaavæ ṫaa mahal bulaavæ.

If God wills it so, then one is summoned to the Mansion of His Presence.

ਸਬਦੇ ਭੇਦੇ ਤਉ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

Sabḋé bʰéḋé ṫa▫o paṫ paavæ.

One who is pierced through by the Shabad, obtains honor.

ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਸ ਖਪਹਿ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ॥

Kar kar vés kʰapėh jal jaavėh.

Those who wear religious robes burn, and are ruined.

ਸਾਚੈ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਹਿ ॥੮॥

Saachæ saaché saach samaavėh. ||8||

Through Truth, the truthful ones merge into the True Lord. ||8||

ਸਪਤਮੀ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਸਰੀਰਿ ॥

Sapṫamee saṫ sanṫokʰ sareer.

The Seventh Day: When the body is imbued with Truth and contentment,

ਸਾਤ ਸਮੁੰਦ ਭਰੇ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨੀਰਿ ॥

Saaṫ samunḋ bʰaré nirmal neer.

the seven seas within are filled with the Immaculate Water.

ਮਜਨੁ ਸੀਲੁ ਸਚੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥

Majan seel sach riḋæ veechaar.

Bathing in good conduct, and contemplating the True Lord within the heart,

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਸਭਿ ਪਾਰਿ ॥

Gur kæ sabaḋ paavæ sabʰ paar.

one obtains the Word of the Guru’s Shabad, and carries everyone across.

ਮਨਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚਉ ਭਾਇ ॥

Man saachaa mukʰ saacha▫o bʰaa▫é.

With the True Lord in the mind, and the True Lord lovingly on one’s lips,

ਸਚੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ਠਾਕ ਨ ਪਾਇ ॥੯॥

Sach neesaaṇæ tʰaak na paa▫é. ||9||

one is blessed with the banner of Truth, and meets with no obstructions. ||9||

ਅਸਟਮੀ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਸਾਧੈ ॥

Astamee asat siḋʰ buḋʰ saaḋʰæ.

The Eighth Day: The eight miraculous powers come when one subdues his own mind,

ਸਚੁ ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ਕਰਮਿ ਅਰਾਧੈ ॥

Sach nihkéval karam araaḋʰæ.

and contemplates the True Lord through pure actions.

ਪਉਣ ਪਾਣੀ ਅਗਨੀ ਬਿਸਰਾਉ ॥

Pa▫uṇ paaṇee agnee bisraa▫o.

Forget the three qualities of wind, water and fire,

ਤਹੀ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਸਾਚੋ ਨਾਉ ॥

Ṫahee niranjan saacho naa▫o.

and concentrate on the pure True Name.

ਤਿਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਰਹਿਆ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥

Ṫis mėh manoo▫aa rahi▫aa liv laa▫é.

That human who remains lovingly focused on the Lord,

ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਖਾਇ ॥੧੦॥

Paraṇvaṫ Naanak kaal na kʰaa▫é. ||10||

prays Nanak, shall not be consumed by death. ||10||

ਨਾਉ ਨਉਮੀ ਨਵੇ ਨਾਥ ਨਵ ਖੰਡਾ ॥

Naa▫o na▫umee navé naaṫʰ nav kʰanda.

The Ninth Day: the nine masters of Yoga, the nine realms of the earth,

ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਨਾਥੁ ਮਹਾ ਬਲਵੰਡਾ ॥

Gʰat gʰat naaṫʰ mahaa balvandaa.

and each and every heart, the Name is the supreme almighty Master.
