ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

Ik▫oaᴺkaar saṫ naam karṫaa purakʱ nirbʱa▫o nirvær akaal mooraṫ ajoonee sæbʱaᴺ gur parsaaḋ.

One Universal Creator God. Truth Is The Name. Creative Being Personified. No Fear. No Hatred. Image Of The Undying. Beyond Birth. Self-Existent. By Guru’s Grace:

ਕੋਈ ਪੜਤਾ ਸਹਸਾਕਿਰਤਾ ਕੋਈ ਪੜੈ ਪੁਰਾਨਾ ॥

Ko▫ee paṛ▫ṫaa sėhsaakirṫaa ko▫ee paṛæ puraanaa.

Some read the Sanskrit scriptures, and some read the Puranas.

ਕੋਈ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਜਪਮਾਲੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥

Ko▫ee naam japæ japmaalee laagæ ṫisæ ḋʱi▫aanaa.

Some meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and chant it on their malas, focusing on it in meditation.

ਅਬ ਹੀ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥੧॥

Ab hee kab hee kichʱoo na jaanaa ṫéraa éko naam pachʱaanaa. ||1||

I know nothing, now or ever; I recognize only Your One Name, Lord. ||1||

ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਹਰੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਵਨ ਗਤੇ ॥

Na jaaṇaa haré méree kavan gaṫé.

I do not know, Lord, what my condition shall be.

ਹਮ ਮੂਰਖ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਲਾਜ ਪਤੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Ham moorakʱ agi▫aan saran parabʱ ṫéree kar kirpaa raakʱo méree laaj paṫé. ||1|| rahaa▫o.

I am foolish and ignorant; I seek Your Sanctuary, God. Please, save my honor and my self-respect. ||1||Pause||

ਕਬਹੂ ਜੀਅੜਾ ਊਭਿ ਚੜਤੁ ਹੈ ਕਬਹੂ ਜਾਇ ਪਇਆਲੇ ॥

Kabhoo jee▫aṛaa oobʱ chaṛaṫ hæ kabhoo jaa▫é pa▫i▫aalé.

Sometimes, the soul soars high in the heavens, and sometimes it falls to the depths of the nether regions.

ਲੋਭੀ ਜੀਅੜਾ ਥਿਰੁ ਨ ਰਹਤੁ ਹੈ ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਭਾਲੇ ॥੨॥

Lobʱee jee▫aṛaa ṫʱir na rahaṫ hæ chaaré kundaa bʱaalé. ||2||

The greedy soul does not remain stable; it searches in the four directions. ||2||

ਮਰਣੁ ਲਿਖਾਇ ਮੰਡਲ ਮਹਿ ਆਏ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਸਾਜਹਿ ਮਾਈ ॥

Maraṇ likʱaa▫é mandal mėh aa▫é jeevaṇ saajėh maa▫ee.

With death preordained, the soul comes into the world, gathering the riches of life.

ਏਕਿ ਚਲੇ ਹਮ ਦੇਖਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਭਾਹਿ ਬਲੰਤੀ ਆਈ ॥੩॥

Ėk chalé ham ḋékʱah su▫aamee bʱaahi balanṫee aa▫ee. ||3||

I see that some have already gone, O my Lord and Master; the burning fire is coming closer! ||3||

ਨ ਕਿਸੀ ਕਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਨ ਕਿਸੀ ਕਾ ਭਾਈ ਨਾ ਕਿਸੈ ਬਾਪੁ ਨ ਮਾਈ ॥

Na kisee kaa meeṫ na kisee kaa bʱaa▫ee naa kisæ baap na maa▫ee.

No one has any friend, and no one has any brother; no one has any father or mother.

ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੇ ਤੂ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਅੰਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥

Paraṇvaṫ Naanak jé ṫoo ḋévėh anṫé ho▫é sakʱaa▫ee. ||4||1||

Prays Nanak, if You bless me with Your Name, it shall be my help and support in the end. ||4||1||

ਸਰਬ ਜੋਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਪਸਰਿ ਰਹੀ ॥

Sarab joṫ ṫéree pasar rahee.

Your Light is prevailing everywhere.

ਜਹ ਜਹ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਨਰਹਰੀ ॥੧॥

Jah jah ḋékʱaa ṫah nar▫haree. ||1||

Wherever I look, there I see the Lord. ||1||

ਜੀਵਨ ਤਲਬ ਨਿਵਾਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥

Jeevan ṫalab nivaar su▫aamee.

Please rid me of the desire to live, O my Lord and Master.

ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਗਾਡਿਆ ਕਿਉ ਕਰਿ ਉਤਰਉ ਪਾਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Anḋʱ koop maa▫i▫aa man gaadi▫aa ki▫o kar uṫara▫o paar su▫aamee. ||1|| rahaa▫o.

My mind is entangled in the deep dark pit of Maya. How can I cross over, O Lord and Master? ||1||Pause||

ਜਹ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਘਟ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਬਸਿਆ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਾਹੇ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

Jah bʱeeṫar gʱat bʱeeṫar basi▫aa baahar kaahé naahee.

He dwells deep within, inside the heart; how can He not be outside as well?

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਨਿਤ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਦਾ ਚਿੰਤ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥੨॥

Ṫin kee saar karé niṫ saahib saḋaa chinṫ man maahee. ||2||

Our Lord and Master always takes care of us, and keeps us in His thoughts. ||2||

ਆਪੇ ਨੇੜੈ ਆਪੇ ਦੂਰਿ ॥

Aapé néṛæ aapé ḋoor.

He Himself is near at hand, and He is far away.

ਆਪੇ ਸਰਬ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥

Aapé sarab rahi▫aa bʱarpoor.

He Himself is all-pervading, permeating everywhere.

ਸਤਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ਜਾਇ ॥

Saṫgur milæ anḋʱéraa jaa▫é.

Meeting the True Guru, the darkness is dispelled.
