1389 ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਮਦ ਮਤਸਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਜਾਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਉਚਾਰੀ ॥ Kaam kroḋʰ maḋ maṫsar ṫarisnaa binas jaahi har naam uchaaree. Lust, anger, egotism, jealousy and desire are eliminated by chanting the Name of the Lord. ਇਸਨਾਨ ਦਾਨ ਤਾਪਨ ਸੁਚਿ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਾਰੀ ॥ Isnaan ḋaan ṫaapan such kiri▫aa charaṇ kamal hirḋæ parabʰ ḋʰaaree. The merits of cleansing baths, charity, penance, purity and good deeds, are obtained by enshrining the Lotus Feet of God within the heart. ਸਾਜਨ ਮੀਤ ਸਖਾ ਹਰਿ ਬੰਧਪ ਜੀਅ ਧਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥ Saajan meeṫ sakʰaa har banḋʰap jee▫a ḋʰaan parabʰ paraan aḋʰaaree. The Lord is my Friend, my Very Best Friend, Companion and Relative. God is the Sustenance of the soul, the Support of the breath of life. ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਮਰਥਹ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਸਦਾ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥੯॥ Ot gahee su▫aamee samarṫʰėh Naanak ḋaas saḋaa balihaaree. ||9|| I have grasped the Shelter and Support of my All-powerful Lord and Master; slave Nanak is forever a sacrifice to Him. ||9|| ਆਵਧ ਕਟਿਓ ਨ ਜਾਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸੰਗਿ ॥ Aavaḋʰ kati▫o na jaaṫ parém ras charan kamal sang. Weapons cannot cut that person who delights in the love of the Lord’s Lotus Feet. ਦਾਵਨਿ ਬੰਧਿਓ ਨ ਜਾਤ ਬਿਧੇ ਮਨ ਦਰਸ ਮਗਿ ॥ Ḋaavan banḋʰi▫o na jaaṫ biḋʰé man ḋaras mag. Ropes cannot bind that person whose mind is pierced through by the Vision of the Lord’s Way. ਪਾਵਕ ਜਰਿਓ ਨ ਜਾਤ ਰਹਿਓ ਜਨ ਧੂਰਿ ਲਗਿ ॥ Paavak jari▫o na jaaṫ rahi▫o jan ḋʰoor lag. Fire cannot burn that person who is attached to the dust of the feet of the Lord’s humble servant. ਨੀਰੁ ਨ ਸਾਕਸਿ ਬੋਰਿ ਚਲਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਪੰਥਿ ਪਗਿ ॥ Neer na saakas bor chalėh har panṫʰ pag. Water cannot drown that person whose feet walk on the Lord’s Path. ਨਾਨਕ ਰੋਗ ਦੋਖ ਅਘ ਮੋਹ ਛਿਦੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਖਗਿ ॥੧॥੧੦॥ Naanak rog ḋokʰ agʰ moh chʰiḋé har naam kʰag. ||1||10|| O Nanak! Diseases, faults, sinful mistakes and emotional attachment are pierced by the Arrow of the Name. ||1||10|| ਉਦਮੁ ਕਰਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤੀ ਬਿਚਰਹਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬਹੁ ਖਟੂਆ ॥ Uḋam kar laagé baho bʰaaṫee bichrahi anik saasṫar baho kʰatoo▫aa. People are engaged in making all sorts of efforts; they contemplate the various aspects of the six Shastras. ਭਸਮ ਲਗਾਇ ਤੀਰਥ ਬਹੁ ਭ੍ਰਮਤੇ ਸੂਖਮ ਦੇਹ ਬੰਧਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਜਟੂਆ ॥ Bʰasam lagaa▫é ṫiraṫʰ baho bʰaramṫé sookʰam ḋéh banḋʰėh baho jatoo▫aa. Rubbing ashes all over their bodies, they wander around at the various sacred shrines of pilgrimage; they fast until their bodies are emaciated, and braid their hair into tangled messes. ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨ ਸਗਲ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਵਤ ਜਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਬਢਾਇ ਸੂਤ ਕੇ ਹਟੂਆ ॥ Bin har bʰajan sagal ḋukʰ paavaṫ ji▫o parém badʰaa▫é sooṫ ké hatoo▫aa. Without devotional worship of the Lord, they all suffer with pain, caught in the tangled web of their love. ਪੂਜਾ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਕਰਤ ਸੋਮਪਾਕਾ ਅਨਿਕ ਭਾਂਤਿ ਥਾਟਹਿ ਕਰਿ ਥਟੂਆ ॥੨॥੧੧॥੨੦॥ Poojaa chakar karaṫ sompaakaa anik bʰaaⁿṫ ṫʰaatėh kar ṫʰatoo▫aa. ||2||11||20|| They perform worship ceremonies, draw ritual marks on their bodies, cook their own food fanatically, and make pompous shows of themselves in all sorts of ways. ||2||11||20|| ਸਵਈਏ ਮਹਲੇ ਪਹਿਲੇ ਕੇ ੧ Sava▫ee▫é mahlé pahilé ké 1 Swaiyas In Praise Of The First Mehl: ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥ Ik▫oaⁿkaar saṫgur parsaaḋ. One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru: ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਬਰਦਾਤਾ ॥ Ik man purakʰ ḋʰi▫aa▫é barḋaaṫaa. Meditate single-mindedly on the Primal Lord God, the Bestower of blessings. ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਰੁ ਸਦਾ ਬਿਖਿਆਤਾ ॥ Sanṫ sahaar saḋaa bikʰi▫aaṫaa. He is the Helper and Support of the Saints, manifest forever. ਤਾਸੁ ਚਰਨ ਲੇ ਰਿਦੈ ਬਸਾਵਉ ॥ Ṫaas charan lé riḋæ basaava▫o. Grasp His Feet and enshrine them in your heart. ਤਉ ਪਰਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਉ ॥੧॥ Ṫa▫o param guroo Naanak gun gaava▫o. ||1|| Then, let us sing the Glorious Praises of the most exalted Guru Nanak. ||1|| ਗਾਵਉ ਗੁਨ ਪਰਮ ਗੁਰੂ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਦੁਰਤ ਨਿਵਾਰਣ ਸਬਦ ਸਰੇ ॥ Gaava▫o gun param guroo sukʰ saagar ḋuraṫ nivaaraṇ sabaḋ saré. I sing the Glorious Praises of the most exalted Guru Nanak, the Ocean of peace, the Eradicator of sins, the sacred pool of the Shabad, the Word of God. ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗੰਭੀਰ ਧੀਰ ਮਤਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਜੋਗੀ ਜੰਗਮ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਰੇ ॥ Gaavahi gambʰeer ḋʰeer maṫ saagar jogee jangam ḋʰi▫aan ḋʰaré. The beings of deep and profound understanding, oceans of wisdom, sing of Him; the Yogis and wandering hermits meditate on Him. ਗਾਵਹਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਦਿ ਭਗਤ ਪ੍ਰਹਿਲਾਦਿਕ ਆਤਮ ਰਸੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਾਣਿਓ ॥ Gaavahi inḋraaḋ bʰagaṫ par▫hilaaḋik aaṫam ras jin jaaṇi▫o. Indra and devotees like Prahlaad, who know the joy of the soul, sing of Him. ਕਬਿ ਕਲ ਸੁਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਉ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੋਗੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਮਾਣਿਓ ॥੨॥ Kab kal sujas gaava▫o gur Naanak raaj jog jin maaṇi▫o. ||2|| KAL the poet sings the Sublime Praises of Guru Nanak, who enjoys mastery of Raja Yoga, the Yoga of meditation and success. ||2|| ਗਾਵਹਿ ਜਨਕਾਦਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਜੋਗੇਸੁਰ ਹਰਿ ਰਸ ਪੂਰਨ ਸਰਬ ਕਲਾ ॥ Gaavahi jankaaḋ jugaṫ jogésur har ras pooran sarab kalaa. King Janak and the great Yogic heroes of the Lord’s Way, sing the Praises of the All-powerful Primal Being, filled with the sublime essence of the Lord. ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਨਕਾਦਿ ਸਾਧ ਸਿਧਾਦਿਕ ਮੁਨਿ ਜਨ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਅਛਲ ਛਲਾ ॥ Gaavahi sankaaḋ saaḋʰ siḋʰaaḋik mun jan gaavahi achʰal chʰalaa. Sanak and Brahma’s sons, the Sadhus and Siddhas, the silent sages and humble servants of the Lord sing the Praises of Guru Nanak, who cannot be deceived by the great deceiver. ਗਾਵੈ ਗੁਣ ਧੋਮੁ ਅਟਲ ਮੰਡਲਵੈ ਭਗਤਿ ਭਾਇ ਰਸੁ ਜਾਣਿਓ ॥ Gaavæ guṇ ḋʰom atal mandlavæ bʰagaṫ bʰaa▫é ras jaaṇi▫o. Dhoma the seer and Dhroo, whose realm is unmoving, sing the Glorious Praises of Guru Nanak, who knows the ecstasy of loving devotional worship. ਕਬਿ ਕਲ ਸੁਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਉ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੋਗੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਮਾਣਿਓ ॥੩॥ Kab kal sujas gaava▫o gur Naanak raaj jog jin maaṇi▫o. ||3|| KAL the poet sings the Sublime Praises of Guru Nanak, who enjoys mastery of Raja Yoga. ||3|| ਗਾਵਹਿ ਕਪਿਲਾਦਿ ਆਦਿ ਜੋਗੇਸੁਰ ਅਪਰੰਪਰ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਵਰੋ ॥ Gaavahi kapilaaḋ aaḋ jogésur aprampar avṫaar varo. Kapila and the other Yogis sing of Guru Nanak. He is the Avataar, the Incarnation of the Infinite Lord. ਗਾਵੈ ਜਮਦਗਨਿ ਪਰਸਰਾਮੇਸੁਰ ਕਰ ਕੁਠਾਰੁ ਰਘੁ ਤੇਜੁ ਹਰਿਓ ॥ Gaavæ jamaḋgan parasraamésur kar kutʰaar ragʰ ṫéj hari▫o. ParasRam the son of Jamdagan, whose ax and powers were taken away by Raghuvira, sing of Him. ਉਧੌ ਅਕ੍ਰੂਰੁ ਬਿਦਰੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਰਬਾਤਮੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਾਣਿਓ ॥ Uḋʰou akroor biḋar guṇ gaavæ sarbaaṫam jin jaaṇi▫o. Udho, Akrur and Bidur sing the Glorious Praises of Guru Nanak, who knows the Lord, the Soul of All. ਕਬਿ ਕਲ ਸੁਜਸੁ ਗਾਵਉ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਜੁ ਜੋਗੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਮਾਣਿਓ ॥੪॥ Kab kal sujas gaava▫o gur Naanak raaj jog jin maaṇi▫o. ||4|| KAL the poet sings the Sublime Praises of Guru Nanak, who enjoys mastery of Raja Yoga. ||4|| |
