292 ਕੋਊ ਨਰਕ ਕੋਊ ਸੁਰਗ ਬੰਛਾਵਤ ॥ Ko▫oo narak ko▫oo surag banchʰaavaṫ. Some have gone to hell, and some yearn for paradise. ਆਲ ਜਾਲ ਮਾਇਆ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥ Aal jaal maa▫i▫aa janjaal. Worldly snares and entanglements of Maya, ਹਉਮੈ ਮੋਹ ਭਰਮ ਭੈ ਭਾਰ ॥ Ha▫umæ moh bʰaram bʰæ bʰaar. egotism, attachment, doubt and loads of fear; ਦੂਖ ਸੂਖ ਮਾਨ ਅਪਮਾਨ ॥ Ḋookʰ sookʰ maan apmaan. pain and pleasure, honor and dishonor - ਅਨਿਕ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਕੀਓ ਬਖੵਾਨ ॥ Anik parkaar kee▫o bakʰ▫yaan. these came to be described in various ways. ਆਪਨ ਖੇਲੁ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ॥ Aapan kʰél aap kar ḋékʰæ. He Himself creates and beholds His own drama. ਖੇਲੁ ਸੰਕੋਚੈ ਤਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੈ ॥੭॥ Kʰél sankochæ ṫa▫o Naanak ékæ. ||7|| He winds up the drama, and then, O Nanak! He alone remains. ||7|| ਜਹ ਅਬਿਗਤੁ ਭਗਤੁ ਤਹ ਆਪਿ ॥ Jah abigaṫ bʰagaṫ ṫah aap. Wherever the Eternal Lord’s devotee is, He Himself is there. ਜਹ ਪਸਰੈ ਪਾਸਾਰੁ ਸੰਤ ਪਰਤਾਪਿ ॥ Jah pasræ paasaar sanṫ parṫaap. He unfolds the expanse of His creation for the glory of His Saint. ਦੁਹੂ ਪਾਖ ਕਾ ਆਪਹਿ ਧਨੀ ॥ Ḋuhoo paakʰ kaa aapėh ḋʰanee. He Himself is the Master of both worlds. ਉਨ ਕੀ ਸੋਭਾ ਉਨਹੂ ਬਨੀ ॥ Un kee sobʰaa unhoo banee. His Praise is to Himself alone. ਆਪਹਿ ਕਉਤਕ ਕਰੈ ਅਨਦ ਚੋਜ ॥ Aapėh ka▫uṫak karæ anaḋ choj. He Himself performs and plays His amusements and games. ਆਪਹਿ ਰਸ ਭੋਗਨ ਨਿਰਜੋਗ ॥ Aapėh ras bʰogan nirjog. He Himself enjoys pleasures, and yet He is unaffected and untouched. ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਪਨ ਨਾਇ ਲਾਵੈ ॥ Jis bʰaavæ ṫis aapan naa▫é laavæ. He attaches whomever He pleases to His Name. ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਖੇਲ ਖਿਲਾਵੈ ॥ Jis bʰaavæ ṫis kʰél kʰilaavæ. He causes whomever He pleases to play in His play. ਬੇਸੁਮਾਰ ਅਥਾਹ ਅਗਨਤ ਅਤੋਲੈ ॥ Bésumaar aṫʰaah agnaṫ aṫolæ. He is beyond calculation, beyond measure, uncountable and unfathomable. ਜਿਉ ਬੁਲਾਵਹੁ ਤਿਉ ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਬੋਲੈ ॥੮॥੨੧॥ Ji▫o bulaavhu ṫi▫o Naanak ḋaas bolæ. ||8||21|| As You inspire him to speak, O Lord, so does servant Nanak speak. ||8||21|| ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥ Salok. Shalok: ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਕੇ ਠਾਕੁਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਵਰਤਣਹਾਰ ॥ Jee▫a janṫ ké tʰaakuraa aapé varṫanhaar. O Lord and Master of all beings and creatures, You Yourself are prevailing everywhere. ਨਾਨਕ ਏਕੋ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਦੂਜਾ ਕਹ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਾਰ ॥੧॥ Naanak éko pasri▫aa ḋoojaa kah ḋaristaar. ||1|| O Nanak! The One is All-pervading; where is any other to be seen? ||1|| ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ॥ Asatpaḋee. Ashtapadee: ਆਪਿ ਕਥੈ ਆਪਿ ਸੁਨਨੈਹਾਰੁ ॥ Aap kaṫʰæ aap sunnæhaar. He Himself is the speaker, and He Himself is the listener. ਆਪਹਿ ਏਕੁ ਆਪਿ ਬਿਸਥਾਰੁ ॥ Aapėh ék aap bisṫʰaar. He Himself is the One, and He Himself is the many. ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਉਪਾਏ ॥ Jaa ṫis bʰaavæ ṫaa sarisat upaa▫é. When it pleases Him, He creates the world. ਆਪਨੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਲਏ ਸਮਾਏ ॥ Aapnæ bʰaaṇæ la▫é samaa▫é. As He pleases, He absorbs it back into Himself. ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਭਿੰਨ ਨਹੀ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ Ṫum ṫé bʰinn nahee kichʰ ho▫é. Without You, nothing can be done. ਆਪਨ ਸੂਤਿ ਸਭੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਪਰੋਇ ॥ Aapan sooṫ sabʰ jagaṫ paro▫é. Upon Your thread, You have strung the whole world. ਜਾ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਆਪਿ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥ Jaa ka▫o parabʰ jee▫o aap bujʰaa▫é. One whom God Himself inspires to understand - ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਪਾਏ ॥ Sach naam so▫ee jan paa▫é. that person obtains the True Name. ਸੋ ਸਮਦਰਸੀ ਤਤ ਕਾ ਬੇਤਾ ॥ So samaḋrasee ṫaṫ kaa béṫaa. He looks impartially upon all, and he knows the essential reality. ਨਾਨਕ ਸਗਲ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਾ ਜੇਤਾ ॥੧॥ Naanak sagal sarisat kaa jéṫaa. ||1|| O Nanak! He conquers the whole world. ||1|| ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਸਭ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਹਾਥ ॥ Jee▫a janṫar sabʰ ṫaa kæ haaṫʰ. All beings and creatures are in His Hands. ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਅਨਾਥ ਕੋ ਨਾਥੁ ॥ Ḋeen ḋa▫i▫aal anaaṫʰ ko naaṫʰ. He is Merciful to the meek, the Patron of the those without a patron. ਜਿਸੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਮਾਰੈ ॥ Jis raakʰæ ṫis ko▫é na maaræ. No one can kill those who are protected by Him. ਸੋ ਮੂਆ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਹੁ ਬਿਸਾਰੈ ॥ So moo▫aa jis manhu bisaaræ. One who is forgotten by God, is already dead. ਤਿਸੁ ਤਜਿ ਅਵਰ ਕਹਾ ਕੋ ਜਾਇ ॥ Ṫis ṫaj avar kahaa ko jaa▫é. Leaving Him, where else could anyone go? ਸਭ ਸਿਰਿ ਏਕੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਰਾਇ ॥ Sabʰ sir ék niranjan raa▫é. Over the heads of all is the One, the Immaculate King. ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ਸਭ ਹਾਥਿ ॥ Jee▫a kee jugaṫ jaa kæ sabʰ haaṫʰ. The ways and means of all beings are in His Hands. ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਸਾਥਿ ॥ Anṫar baahar jaanhu saaṫʰ. Inwardly and outwardly, know that He is with you. ਗੁਨ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਬੇਅੰਤ ਅਪਾਰ ॥ Gun niḋʰaan bé▫anṫ apaar. He is the Ocean of excellence, infinite and endless. ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਸਦਾ ਬਲਿਹਾਰ ॥੨॥ Naanak ḋaas saḋaa balihaar. ||2|| Slave Nanak is forever a sacrifice to Him. ||2|| ਪੂਰਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਦਇਆਲ ॥ Pooran poor rahé ḋa▫i▫aal. The Perfect, Merciful Lord is pervading everywhere. ਸਭ ਊਪਰਿ ਹੋਵਤ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥ Sabʰ oopar hovaṫ kirpaal. His kindness extends to all. ਅਪਨੇ ਕਰਤਬ ਜਾਨੈ ਆਪਿ ॥ Apné karṫab jaanæ aap. He Himself knows His own ways. ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ਰਹਿਓ ਬਿਆਪਿ ॥ Anṫarjaamee rahi▫o bi▫aap. The Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts, is present everywhere. ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲੈ ਜੀਅਨ ਬਹੁ ਭਾਤਿ ॥ Paraṫipaalæ jee▫an baho bʰaaṫ. He cherishes His living beings in so many ways. ਜੋ ਜੋ ਰਚਿਓ ਸੁ ਤਿਸਹਿ ਧਿਆਤਿ ॥ Jo jo rachi▫o so ṫisėh ḋʰi▫aaṫ. That which He has created meditates on Him. ਜਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥ Jis bʰaavæ ṫis la▫é milaa▫é. Whoever pleases Him, He blends into Himself. ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇ ॥ Bʰagaṫ karahi har ké guṇ gaa▫é. They perform His devotional service and sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਿਸ੍ਵਾਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ॥ Man anṫar bisvaas kar maani▫aa. With heart-felt faith, they believe in Him. ਕਰਨਹਾਰੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਕੁ ਜਾਨਿਆ ॥੩॥ Karanhaar Naanak ik jaani▫aa. ||3|| O Nanak! They realize the One, the Creator Lord. ||3|| ਜਨੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੈ ਨਾਇ ॥ Jan laagaa har ékæ naa▫é. The Lord’s humble servant is committed to His Name. ਤਿਸ ਕੀ ਆਸ ਨ ਬਿਰਥੀ ਜਾਇ ॥ Ṫis kee aas na birṫʰee jaa▫é. His hopes do not go in vain. ਸੇਵਕ ਕਉ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਨਿ ਆਈ ॥ Sévak ka▫o sévaa ban aa▫ee. The servant’s purpose is to serve; ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੂਝਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਈ ॥ Hukam boojʰ param paḋ paa▫ee. obeying the Lord’s Command, the supreme-status is obtained. ਇਸ ਤੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥ Is ṫé oopar nahee beechaar. Beyond this, he has no other thought. ਜਾ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਬਸਿਆ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ॥ Jaa kæ man basi▫aa nirankaar. Within his mind, the Formless Lord abides. ਬੰਧਨ ਤੋਰਿ ਭਏ ਨਿਰਵੈਰ ॥ Banḋʰan ṫor bʰa▫é nirvær. His bonds are cut away, and he becomes free of hatred. ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਪੂਜਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਪੈਰ ॥ An▫ḋin poojėh gur ké pær. Night and day, he worships the Feet of the Guru. ਇਹ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਸੁਹੇਲੇ ॥ Ih lok sukʰee▫é parlok suhélé. He is at peace in this world, and happy in the next. |
